My first real bump on the road is making realistic leaves on trees and bushes. I do not mean really realistic, but more cartoon style but good enough that it looks good. To give a idea of what I mean, look here.
When I try this I try with a paintbrush, but with a larger circle brush the result is to smooth and with a 1px brush it is to small?
How do i select the white sky in this photo without selecting any of the tree or leaves? I know it can be done with the "selecting tool" but it takes forever to do every little but of sky.
There has to be an easier way?
If it helps I have photoshop 7.0 & CS3.
I would like to use a brush tool and put some blue sky between it...
I imported trees using Civil View which are images projected on planes. I was wondering if its possible to get the shadows more realistic? It currently displays the plane shadows which are 2 planes crossed in the shape of an "X". I also noticed on others' systems their tree objects are more 3d and not images draped on planes. Is this due to graphics card?

Brush is Repeating
1) I read GIMP can use .abr brush file so I imported a Photoshop brush into GIMP. I then painted with it but it is painting with a repeating pattern. I did a comparison to show what the brush should be painting like. The same brush looks great in photoshop but is tiling or creating a pattern in GIMP. Is there a setting I need to select to get the brush to paint so it looks like the Photoshop example?
Organizing GIMP Brushes
2) It doesn’t seem like GIMP recognizes named brush folders. I had a folder named “Watercolor Brushes” and in it some .abr brushes. When I copied the folder to GIMP’s “Brushes” folder and then opened GIMP I found the brushes were randomly placed amongst my other GIMP brushes. This makes it very hard to keep organized. Is there a way to load the brushes so they are properly organized?
Is there some good way to do this when there are subjects that have many small features, sure as leaves or bird feathers? I have tried different selection methods and feathering, but always wind up with halos or sudden changes at the boundary, that necessite huge amount of detail work to get rid of,

What I want to do is keep the sky from the second image. I want the border to be at the top of the trees. Now the edge of the trees is very uneven and difficult to select.
So I thought I would get around this by using a layer mask. To achieve this I took one of the images:
- desaturated it/turned it into monochrome/or decompose it
- used either levels or curves to try and get us much contrast as possible
and then used the resulting image as a mask. Unfortunately what happens is I get what looks like chromatic abberation at the edge of the trees and sky. Look here:

I'm trying to color a site plan and I'd like to add shadows to buildings and trees, but don't know how to go about it. Drop Shadow is not going to work--I need to do this somehow manually.

View 5 Replies View Relatedhow to make a layer cut from another pic look more part of the background it's being placed on. I try to keep the pics relatively the same size then I'll usually use quick selection tool and get the item outlined how I want, then adjust the "refine edge" settings and drag onto the new background. I can get it to look pretty good messing with the Enhance features including defringe layer and maybe mess with the erase tool a little to feather a little more, but it still seems to look a bit as though it's sitting on top..

I use pen tool for thought - but round or curved - objects and for other objects I have a series of auto actions that clean them up quite nicely and quickly. For example see before and after below of an object I did. Photos were taken with Nikon D70:
I've now run into a really tough one and it's foam. I told my wife to take photos of them with black background so it's more contrasty. But I just can't seem to figure out how to get rid of the black so the result looks "foamy." Evidently, the pen tool just won't work because lines there are two straight. Below is example of photo and I now have about 6 photos similar with more to come. The photo below is reduced version to keep the file size here small:
I'm working on a necrotic zombie-like picture of myself and was trying to wrap skin around my mouth, but it looks fake. Can anyone give me a tip on how to make this look real?
I also noticed my right eye is much darker do to the lighting of the original picture, and I can't seem to get that lightened to match the left one.

When I went to turn that white background into a transparent alpha channel, it seemed to work okay....except for the fact that when I then went to select the new alpha channel via the Fuzzy Select Tool, it wasn't selecting all these newly transparent pixels.

i made an escalator with 2 persons on it, they move up the stairs in 12 steps.i made 12 different .XCF's for every step one.
Before converting to animated gif i make the XCF's 1 layer each.when i use the option FILTER > ANIMATION > OPTIMIZE (difference)the animated gif leaves black lines when the persons move (see picture attachment) the export file is very small so that's ok
When i use FILE > EXPORT > (=export as a animated gif) with the option delete previous frame, then the animated Gif looks fine. but the size is 5x bigger than when converting the first option ( i understand why)
how get rid of the black lines ??
Whenever I try to use the 'Colour to Alpha' tool, while it works on most of the image, I always get little white dots left behind, and have to spend ages use the eraser tool to get rid of them.

How to do this, cos im losing my mind trying to paint strands of hair in and having the result look like Ive cut the image out of a magazine with a pair of left handed scissors (im right handed!)
Basically whilst using a tablet to draw the outline, i want to fill in the space with a colour. however, this leaves a pixellated edge around the fill, resulting in the piece looking far from perfect. how can i get around this without having to hand fill each individual pixel? is there any way to turn the sensitivity on my tablet off on the tool so that i just draw thick black lines instead of ones that get lighter around the edges?
i have included an example.
I drew a tree and bushes and added color but I need to add effects to it so they look realistic not just like a simple drawing.

The object has plenty of silver reflections, HDRI environment map reflections, precise shadows and highlights, etc. I just want to make it look more generic and not as polished I guess.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for some particular brushes and haven't had any luck finding any. I make aerial view illustrations of housing and commercial developments. Usually I am hand coloring them and scanning them into Photoshop for clean-up and text. Lately, however, we are wanting to do all the coloring in Photoshop and Illustrator which brings me to my problem. Since the linework is Autocad based, the trees look really bad (fake), so I'm trying to find tree brushes. I've been able to find plenty of brushes for elevation views, but I need aerial views. Has anyone run across any? We're currently using PS7, but I'm really close to getting CS2 out of them.

I wonder if there is a way to smooth these trees so they look smooth at least during the time that I prepare a PDF of the black and white 3D Site Plan. If this setting can be reverted to the crossed trees after preparing the PDF, that is fine. Also at this time I am working with black and white 3D, so color is not an issue, only the smoothness of the trees. Is there a setting that can make these trees look smooth?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm have an issue where my windows disappear behind my tree outline when I print. The trees are default revit deciduous trees. I have overridden element to make it 100% Transparent. Also I have tried to override it in visibility Graphics. [URL] ... Is this a problem with Revit 2014. This happens with both our paper printer, our plotter and adobe pdf so we know that its not a specific printer issue. Also it only happens in hidden line mode when changed to realistic mode, the windows print.
I have attached views of a printed to pdf view with the windows missing and a revit view of the same drawing before sent to the printer. As you can see it looks correct in my revit view.
