I recently acquired a new Macbook Pro laptop and installed GIMP on it. I have been using GIMP for years on a PC but for some reason I cannot figure out how to resize tools (The smudge tool particularly). I have GIMP 2.6.

I therefor want to take a slice of the background colour and copy that overtop of the text. I have tried to use the rectangle tool to copy and paste the slice. However I am unable to workout how to expand the slice (expand the width) overtop of the text.. I thought it should be a simple matter of dragging the rectangle out to the desired width. I have also tried changing the pixel amount in the Tool options section. how to expand a rectangle?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Gimp 2.8 to change print size to 6 x 4. Original image is 1600 x 1200. So I go to „Print Size“ and change size in inches to 6 x 4 (naturally unlinking „chain“ symbol). I then save the image but when I reopen its at 6 x 4.5 and of course it prints this size.
View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing GIMP 2.8.10 in Windows 8.1. The two default dialogs open are Layers and Brushes. The Layers dialog takes most of the space. I want to shrink it vertically but when I try to drag up the cursor with the two vertical arrows it moves by itself without resizing the dialog. When I do the same horizontally it works fine. I would like to see less of the Layers dialog and more of Brushes dialog. How do I do this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm just beginning to use Gimp with my Thinkpad x230. It's got a pressure sensitive stylus with eraser to use on the screen, and in ubuntu it's basically an on-screen wacom.
One of the greatest things about this is that I can use Gimp like a souped up sketchpad, I can automatically change tools to eraser whenever I spin the pen around.
The only problem is that whenever I change the brush size for the pencil, then move over to eraser, Gimp uses the brush size I selected for the pencil for the eraser tool. This is super annoying in practice. Is there a way for Gimp to memorize which brush size I want for a given tool?
I have a question for tools in GIMP. Now I see that the tool moves in a certain grid. Now, I want the other tools to move like that too. What I'm saying is that the pencil tool moves by pixels in my document. Since I like to do pixel art, it'd be nice if the other tools also moved like that, by pixel not free form. I'm working on a 32x32 grid and it's good that the pencil moves like that. I just want other tools to move like the pencil, pixel by pixel, now it might be different pixel movement for me since I have my grid set up at 4x4 spacing, I'm a newbie at GIMP and would like if you can answer this question.

I'm having an issue when I go back and forth between my paint brush tool and my eraser tool. Ever since I got 2.8 installed, the brush size is the same for all tools. When I had 2.6, if I was working with my paint brush and had it at a small brush size, then turned my pen over to the eraser and I would have that tool's brush size to be much bigger. I wouldn't have to keep on adjusting the size every time I flipped my pen. Ever since I got 2.8, I've had to keep on adjusting the brush size because the brush size stays the same, and doens't stay set for each tool. I'm using windows 7, am using an intous4 tablet and pen, had installed the latest wacom update, the latest gimp obviously with what I believe to be the binary and source code.

What I want to ask is this:
I want to plug a mouse. Normally movements either of the pen on the tabletor of the mouse are mapped to the cursor.I want to keep the mouse plugged while unattaching it from the cursor. Sothe cursor is only tablet driven. Then I want the brush size to be driven by the Y value of the mouse, whileI drow with the tablet.
Maybe editing the input devices editor? Or will I have to operate on Xserver also?
I have a regular 4 x 6 picture. I want to crop it and then keep that as a 4 x 6 and print out. I also want to deal with "inches" here.

I want to go from a 160X158 image to 32X32, how i can do this while retaining quality.
My end goal is to create simple bitmaps that only contain a bit of text in them in black and white.
To do this I am creating a new image and some default size. I then add the text , set the background colour to black and the text colour to white and create my text.I am using the snap to canvas edge and sit it up in a corner.I then want to resize the who canvas to be the same size as the text block created and save the image. How to do this?I have seen the crop tool and can select the area I want but cant figure out how to save this as a new canvas/image sized only to the size of the text.
I have a netbook Acer AspireOne D255e, which max resolution is 1024x600. When I try to run GIMP, it's impossible to use it, because all the tools disappear on the window.

The text layer is still on top and the eye is still visable, so the text should be visable.. I have tried different fonts and colors and sizes with no success.

Also the resize part. nevermind I got it figured, I just had to resize the image and the canvas follows suit. I didn't know that, thought I had to resize canvas first then image like in photoshop.

One day, my Toolbox suddenly started showing "double tools". All of the tools are repeated twice.
I've played with all of the Toolbar setting, but I've been unable to get rid of this annoying problem!
I like to use keyboard shortcuts in GIMP to select different tools or to nudge an image, but I frequently click on the layers window, which causes keyboard shortcut commands to then be directed to the layers window. So whenever I click to select a different layer or do anything with layers, afterwards I always have to have to click on the image window again to regain use of my editing keyboard shortcuts.
Because of this, I also often forget that layers window has focus and end up messing up my layers with key-shortcut commands intended for the image window. Is there some change I can make to my workflow or keyboard bindings to avoid this problem?
I know how to use the scissor tool to cut out patches but since they're difficult to place i like to define areas like with the wand tool. Did i by chance miss a important function?

I have done it in Photoshop before and remember that there was several tools to pull and change the image. Perhaps Gimp doesn't have tools like that? As it is now, the the horizon is a little bit curved and look strange.

The problem with these is that whenever I try to color Using the fill tool, there is a light, fuzzy uncolored edge around the brush tool or ink tool's lines. It looks pretty ugly, especially up close.
How do I prevent the fuzzy edges on these tools?
I use the GIMP all the time and I love it! I'm not a realexpert, but can do mostly what I like.
I'm using Gimp 2.6 on Ubuntu. I open the GIMP, and I'm going along just fine, then all of a sudden I can't get the dialog box for a tool I'm using and I can't view the layers tool box. If I close everything and open GIMP again, it will work for a while.
When Rotating or Resizing an image I have recently run into an issue. This is new behavior so I think I either have something set incorrectly, or it came in with a recent re-install.
When Rotating or Resizing, and setting Clipping to Adjust, it always Crops the image.
In other words: If I were to attempt to stretch an image bigger than 1000x1000 to say 1500x1500 it appears to do all the correct calculations, and does stretch the image, but anything outside the original 1000x1000 disappears.
Likewise if I were to attempt to rotate an image that were say, 1000x1500, 90°, I would end up with a rotated image 1000x1000 in size, and transparent/background for the balance of the original 1000x1500 sized image.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling (it remembered all my settings, so I don't know how much good this might have done), setting the Clipping option to Clip, then Crop and back to Adjust again (also with no result).
I've been trying to resize an image and tried Gimp 2's interpolation method but nothing happened. I increased the size to 150% with 153 pixels (I think). Did I do something wrong or is Gimp just not good for interpolation?
