I make cartoons, and the brush tool and ink tool are my favorites (They have a really nice effect). The problem with these is that whenever I try to color Using the fill tool, there is a light, fuzzy uncolored edge around the brush tool or ink tool's lines. It looks pretty ugly, especially up close.
How do I prevent the fuzzy edges on these tools?
I want to paint on gimp with my tablet and I want to use "wet edges"to paint like water colors. How can I achieve this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm just beginning to use Gimp with my Thinkpad x230. It's got a pressure sensitive stylus with eraser to use on the screen, and in ubuntu it's basically an on-screen wacom.
One of the greatest things about this is that I can use Gimp like a souped up sketchpad, I can automatically change tools to eraser whenever I spin the pen around.
The only problem is that whenever I change the brush size for the pencil, then move over to eraser, Gimp uses the brush size I selected for the pencil for the eraser tool. This is super annoying in practice. Is there a way for Gimp to memorize which brush size I want for a given tool?
I'm having an issue when I go back and forth between my paint brush tool and my eraser tool. Ever since I got 2.8 installed, the brush size is the same for all tools. When I had 2.6, if I was working with my paint brush and had it at a small brush size, then turned my pen over to the eraser and I would have that tool's brush size to be much bigger. I wouldn't have to keep on adjusting the size every time I flipped my pen. Ever since I got 2.8, I've had to keep on adjusting the brush size because the brush size stays the same, and doens't stay set for each tool. I'm using windows 7, am using an intous4 tablet and pen, had installed the latest wacom update, the latest gimp obviously with what I believe to be the binary and source code.

i'm using cs6.the picture i'm working with was enlarged to 400%.the brush, stamp brush tool was at size: 12px, hardness 100%.opacity 100%
in the presettings i saw the brush was set to normal size.also i played with the jitter sizes, to no avail.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using the fuzzy select tool to select a contiguous region of white background (to make it transparent). The flower has some white areas and it selects a small area of the flower too.
I have another whitish flower and I have no problem with fuzzy selecting the white background.....except when I add contrast to the image (and the white areas are also selected). I haven't found a way to add contrast after fuzzy selecting/adding an alpha channel. Is there a way to do this?
I have created this over and over, and it seems every time, the bottom comes out fuzzy. What would be the best way for the bottom "triangle" to be straight like the sides and top?
View 17 Replies View RelatedWhenever I have text, its always fuzzy or pixelated, its really annoying.I have antialiasing selected, I have changed the dpi, made sure it was at 100% and whatever else I could think of.Also, I think the background is also a bit fuzzy, so that's why I think it is the dpi or something like that.But it is always not 100% sharp.I have attached a copy of the back cover. Its the same for all though.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi tried restarting gimp but it did not fix my problem. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, my fuzzy select tool selects WAY too much even at a threshold of 1. at 2 it just selects the whole picture.Re-installing did not fix.
i am creating black/white based icons. So it is a 48x48 image. i am mainly trying to fuzzy select black, white, and transparent selections. As you can guess, it has become impossible now and i don't know what i did.
EDIT: Okay so it actually isn't selecting "too much" per-say. i willt ry and explain the best i can here:
Black and white image with the exception of some shades inbetween.Select fuzzy select and put threshhold at 1. Click. Selects all the white (i actually think it misses some). i hit SHIFT and click on a pixel that is slightly not white. VERY SLIGHTLY. In fact, it may actually be white. It fuzzy selects EVERYTHING.
Another example on an image that is Black and Transparent (with shades inbetween) Slect black on threshold 1. It selects All the black AND all the shades inbetween. Eveything except flat out transparent. i hit CTRL and select a shad einbetween and it deselects everything.
EDIT 2: Doesnt matter the threshold apparently. It will do this on any.
EDIT 3: The solution, after all, was so save these problematic images as JPG and then open them as the JPG.
How do I combine a fuzzy selection area with a dodge or burn operation?
The fuzzy select tool is handy for roughly outlining areas of over or under exposure. There must be a way to combine an oddly-shaped fuzzy selection area with a jittery dodging operation. Do I have to turn the fuzzy selection area into a "brush" somehow, in order to "dodge or burn" that area?
Left - Marquee Tool > Transform > Skew
Middle - Liquify filter with "use graphic processors" selected
Right - Liquify filter without (same result)
Image above is at 200% zoom
All Transform tools cause jaggy edge. I've only tried these tools and Liquify for the last month and a half.
Uninstalled, re-installed Windows, Photoshop, graphic card - Evga 560 ti - drivers (all versions). No prevail.
CS5 works flawlessly on this system. These tools also work fine on my laptop which use Radeon HD3470.
I have just loaded photoshop CS4 as part of the master collection. When I use any of the brush, dodge, burn or other similar tools the brush starts to disappear as I enlarge it eventually disappearing. Even though this happens the tool still works even though most of the circle around the brush area is missing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to get an application of a brush with Wet Edges to absorb seemlessly into a previously applied area of the brush with Wet Edges? As far as I can see, if you paint a bit, say in Pattern mode, stop painting, and then start to apply the brush again, the paint visibly overlaps the previously applied colour. This makes it impossible to easily create brushed watercolour washes without keeping your brush in contact with the paper (in my case a digital tablet) all the time; if you lift it off for a second, it applies a new coat of paint (or pattern) over whatever is there already. What I'd like is to be able to get a wet edges brush to meld seamlessly into a previously applied area of paint (or pattern).
Is this possible to achieve, please?
I have photoshop CS6. The eraser and brush tool is not working properly. I get a small dot on the page irrespective of the size of the eraser or brush that I select. Also I'm not sure if this is a feature of CS6. I've produced a graphic that involves a large number of layers, on past versions of photoshop if I needed to edit a layer I would select that layer and go to it on the page and edit it. On CS6 after I select the layer when I put my cursor anywhere on the page it would automatically select the layer that I am touching, which is similar to Coreldraw or Illustrator.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have photoshop CS4 running with NVIDIA graphics cards on both my desktop PC and Laptop running Windows XP Pro 32 bit. When I use any of the brush, erase, etc tools as the brush enlarges it slowly starts to disappear. When the tool is very large it totally disappears. I was given a suggestion earlier in this forum to update the NVIDIA drivers which I did and this fixed the problem until I had to uninstall photoshop and reinstall it. Now I have the problem back again and can't seem to fix it. I tried reinstalling the drivers but this did not help.
With regard to my laptop I am using a newish Hewlett Packard Mobile Workstation model Compaq 5810w. I have tried to update the drivers for the NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M card but the NVIDIA websites says that for laptops the drivers are supplied by the manufactuer of the laptop - I have tried HP.
When I try and use a round brush with 100% hardness, there is still significant dropoff in density from the center to the outside of the brush. Both the brush and layer are on "normal" mode. I've reset the brush tools. I've deleted the preference files for PSE10. What other settings should I be checking? I know that "brush flow" doesn't show up as a menu item in PSE10, but you can change it with keystrokes. I've messed with that and you can see the darkness of the brush change in the dropdown - I've set that to the "00" setting [shift-apple, ##], which I believe puts it to 100.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using a tablet with gimp and I want to be able to set the brush size for the paint brush and also for the eraser, separately. What happens now is that I'll set the paintbrush size to 10px, paint for a little while, turn the pen over to erase and the eraser will now be at 10px. So I'll adjust the eraser size to something like 50px, erase, turn over, and now the paintbrush is at 50px. Grrrrrrr... I tried creating new brushes for both the paintbrush and the eraser, but there's no brush size option. This is my first time using gimp so I'm probably missing something.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I use the brush, eraser, or any other similar tool in Photoshop CS5, and use the [ or ] key to change the brush size, Photoshop will more often than not switch back to the previous tool I was using. The same thing will sometimes happen when I use 0-9 to change the opacity. It's a bit annoying and totally arbitrary when it happens, is there any way to turn this function off?
Similarly, pressing "e" to use the eraser tool will sometimes pull down the edit menu. I thought maybe there might be a correlation between pressing and holding the key, but it seems to be completely random. It will usually happen at least 20-30 times off and on while I'm working. My housemate never seems to encounter these problems in her version of Photoshop; I'm not sure if it's CS5 or CS6 she's using.
I was using my eraser and airbrush tools on a small image on a larger layer and I moved the image and, after that the eraser and paintbrush tools stopped working on all layers. When I went back to a previous version of the file the tools worked fine.

I want to show only parts of this image at a time, so that the viewer sees it in increments. However, I want to make the edges look more organic, like brush strokes, so that it looks almost as though the painting is being completed and the viewer gets to see the process.
p.s. I'm in CS2, unfortunately, so the bristle brush isn't an options
All brushes have been reset and are set the same. We are running CS5.5 Master Edition on a brand new 27" iMac 3.4 ghz Intel Core i7 Quad core using a Radeon AMD HD6970M.
This is a sample of how the tool is not using the entire diameter. This could be either erasing or painting a color.
I am having a big problem when using the new CS6 on my Mac (os x 10.7.4). When switching to a new tool, like a brush, or clone stamp, or healing brush etc, Photoshop hangs for about 20 seconds before resuming. It's not 3rd party plug-ins, because I get the same behaviour when I run using the shift key and third party plug-ins are disabled. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens frequently.

Since the background layer is locked, I duplicated the background and tried working in the unlocked layer. Still no luck. These tools were working fine before, and sometimes when I open PS they do. I want to key in the number of pixels for the the thickness of the line and if possible key in the position of the line. I know I can use a new grid line to position a grid line, but how do I then turn that grid line into a permanent line where I can decide the width and colour? I'm trying to refrain from the long way round of zooming up to 1600% and physically using the rectangular marquee tool then filling the rectangal with colour.
