I want to know how to resize one of my photos to 190px wide by 147px high? When I do it becomes super blurry and I need it to be crystal clear...am I correct in assuming that it has to be a landscape picture? Are there special sharpening tools that I need to use, etc.?

I want to make a Christmas present spelling out the last name using individual photos of letters (see below). I would like the finished image to be 16x20, and I am going to upload it and have it printed at a photo developing shop. I'm not sure how to set this up in GIMP.
When I set up my new file, how many pixels should I make the new image, if my desired size is 16x20. I'm not sure how many dpi to use when I convert the inches to pixels. I read that 300 dpi is desired.
I was thinking about making image boxes for each letter in one layer and cutting and pasting each letter into the boxes. Is this possible or do I need to make a new layer for each photo?

I got married a few weeks ago and took some digital pics of the evening disco that have come out rather blurred and out of focus. I have tried to find a way of using paint to sort out the pictures but with no luck. I have looked at the plugins that are available but cannot find anything suitable.

Iv had gimp for awhile but just started messing around with animations. . .trying to make 100 x 100 avatar. Trying to learn as I go. I understand how to make the animation now and I need to change it to index mode etc. but it seems no matter what I do it saves looking smudged/blurry not crisp... not like the preview. I understand there are a limited amount of colors in gif... Iv been doing online searches and trying all the recommendations I seen. Everything from choosing the dithering option to saving each layer (its just 3 layers) as a .gif separately first and then adding them together... nothing seems to work. What else can I try?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a jpg file 1500x1024 pixels. If I resize it down to 400x300 and save it, the image quality is fine in the Gimp window. When I view it outside of Gimp, like in Image Viewer or FSpot its very blurry.
I resized the same image on a Mac using Photoshop and this did not happen, the resized image was perfect. Is it some sort of limitation in Gimp?
In the Scale Image dialog box the interpolation is set to Cubic. In the Save As jpeg dialog box I have checked Optimize Smoothing is set to 1.00 Subsamplingis set to Best Quality
In Photoshop if you make a selection, feather that selection and then apply a stroke to that selection you get a nice, controlible stroke that is blurred into the feather.
In the GIMP when you stroke a feathered selection you just get a hard stroke on the original selecten. The feathering does not effect the stroke.
Is there a way to achieve a blurred stroke like I can in PS?

Any other photos I upload are fine, and I made another image in Gimp 2.6 of the same size (2400 pixels x 1800 pixels) which uploads normally, but for some reason no matter what I do the new picture made in 2.8 always uploads blurry.
I exported the image to jpeg format (although I also tried png) without messing with the export settings at all. Do I need to change them to make it upload to Facebook normally?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a photo in PE Organizer/Editor which according to the document size it is 6.6667 inches x 8.917 inches. I know to select image from the menu but not sure whether to select image size or canvas size?
I select Print, choose the print settings, print size 4 x 6 inches, image only - don't want a border, then this message appears: the following images will be rendered at less than 220 dpi at the requested size.
This can't be done in PE and I have to use crop to resize. I surprised that PE cannot resize to inches.
I searched further and found a video on Youtube that demonstrated that PE will resize to inches. The steps in the video were:
1. Select resize, image.
2. Document size:
Enter 6 for width, 4 for height and 300 for resolution (for printing)
Check Scale Styles, Constrains proportions, Resample image, Bicubic
3. The pixel dimensions automatically changed to 1800 width and 1200 for height.
In the video the above steps worked. In my PE, I followed the same steps but the Document size for width changed to 2.99 after I had entered 6 and the Pixel size for width changed to 897.
First, PE change resize to inches but for some reason my PE 11 changes the width after entering 6.
I am creating a photo book using LR 4.1 and BookSmart (so that I can design my own layouts which I can't do in the LR Book module). Everything is working fine except for resizing to fit BookSmart photo containers. In LR it appears that I can only resize to an aspect ratio and not to the actual pixels. For example, I have a custom size of 5.7 x 4, which LR crops to the aspect but retains a high pixel count (4798 x 3367 for example). The optimal size for the BookSmart container is 1710 x 1200 pixels. My understanding is the BookSmart downsamples the image to fit the pixel dimensions of its container. I have read that for best results you should have your photos in the optimal size to begin with, which avoids the downsampling. In LR I can't see any other way of doing this except in the Print module, which does not connect back to my collection in Publish Services. I am hoping to avoid having to edit each photo (over 400) in Photoshop just so that the size (dimensions and pixels) is optimal for the BookSmart photo containers. Am I missing something in LR that would allow me to set the size correctly for BookSmart?

How can I resize a photo in Elements 12, using the squares around the picture?
