I had my first go at GIMP last night following a video I found on YouTube.I managed to make some progress.
The main problem I had was trying to find the layers box which is supposed to appear on the RHS of my screen but is absent. I had a fiddle about with Layers in the options toolbar at the top of the screen but that didn't work.
I have a bit of a problem with Autocad map 3d 2012. When i try to insert a scale bar or a north arrow or any other carthographic element i simply can't find the layout elements that are supposed to be in layout tools tab. I've done a lot of research online and can't come up with anything.

Is, for instance, Power Trace supposed to be there (in draw and photo, etc). The reason is that I cannot find it. It makes no difference if there is a document or not - it is simply not there, nor is it referred to anyplace on the page.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a 825 pixels x 1125 pixels photo, 300 pixels/inch,
making it a size of: 2.75 inches x 3.75 inches.
However when I prepared to print this:
i.e. copying the image and pasting it onto an open office file or microsoft word file
(as I need to safe a file with photos for the printing shop),
the size of the image shows as almost covering an entire A4 sheet.
Why is that and not the set size?
2013 C3D crashes on me a little less than once a day. Fatal errors and recoveries are also quite popular. Today, the crash took Windows 7 down with it too - a rare treat.
I have Autosave set to 20 minutes and also have the box for creating a backup file with each save checked under Options > Open and Save.
When Drawing Recovery Manager opened today, the dwg I was working on says it was last saved over 1.5 hours ago. The bak file was last saved yesterday. Usually, there's a sv$ file, but not this time. The sv$ file is typically the most up-to-date file.
Shouldn't I see a "last saved" time and date of about 30 minutes ago for my dwg? Same for the bak file? Is there some other variable that I need to set?

Is X6 64 bit supposed to save in the background? It seems to do it sometimes but I'm usually seeing the hourglass especially after exporting in X5 format. I have 24GB of ram so that shouldn't be an issue.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a simple block of text on a PS doc that is supposed to be black (i've checked many times and it's color =000000) but it looks gray on screen and prints gray. i checked opacity. it's 100%. i tried opening a new PS doc to see if somehow the doc itself was messed up, but i have the same problem in a brand new doc. make sure it wasn't a printer issue, i printed some text in MS Word and it got black just fine.

See the 4 screen shots below to see what I'm talking about (RAW NEF taken with a Nikon D4 and the other details are on the screen). Here I am adjusting effects contrast, but I don't think it matters which contrast.
v2012 contrast set one way (this slightly peach tone is accurate and desired):
v2012 contrast raised. There is no mistaking how much yellower it is. Now if I try to fix this with the color controls, something else usually gets thrown off.
This does not happen in v2010: Contrast raised (if anything, slightly opposite):Do not get me wrong --the 2012 controls are far superior at their named function --but they make the mistake of doing more than that function.
The fundamental problem here is that this makes it extremely difficult to edit a photo because changing one setting alters settings you may have already set. When order in which you tweak things becomes a factor, it exponentially increases the complexity (and edit time) because you are then dealing with a moving target. You keep having to go back and reset settings that should not be drifting, and did not drift in prior releases. This is a problem for me especially with photos containing a wide range between light and dark, especially where contrast is desired in both light and dark (as above). This is not the first contrast control problem I've posted (it appears to interfere with lens correction). Contrast seems to be at the center of all my release difficulty (that combined with lack of a linear brightness control). Contrast appears to be adjusting more than just contrast in v2012.
Any tool , macro , or VBA code to find a specified part of layers name and replace them with another words which i written as entry.
i use X6 , also i can't use BD layers (brian davis layers) macro, it wont install and looks wont work.
I accidentally closed my layers palette and I have no idea where to find it!

I have previously recieved a drawing which various companies have had an input on. We have a problem with this drawing and we need to find out which company indicated various items. However I believe that the company that sent the drawing to us last has changed all layers to suit their own CAD standards.
What I am asking is. Is there any way to find out the author of the original layers before they were changed? So I could then have proof that such a company set up such a layer and indicated various items on said layer.
my gimp 2.8.6 makes majority normal layers turn into text layers..
Even if i "discard text information" from layer..and then save it as .xcf it doesnt work! Same layers appear as text layers when i open that .xcf Its not a big deal but it really slows me down when im working with layers..
I merged my layers down to scale to proportion and I thought I was done with the project, so I saved it and exported. I then learned that I did something incorrectly, so I went back to the project only to remember I merged the layers and I don't know how to undo that. How do you revert the layers back to layers?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was on a tight deadline. I got a massively layered, -- nested folders everything -- .psd. I'm using Photoshop CS 5.5
I only needed the visible layers. So, I go to "Delete Hidden Layers" right? Ooops it was grayed out, I could not use it -- that was because of the locked layers...
Then I realized -- in the complicated layer structure I had to go through every single folder, open it, look for a locked layer and unlock it (nested folders inside of nested folders etc.). If the layer was not visible and it was locked, I had to first turn it to visible, then unlock it, and then turn it off again.
I was on a deadline, and I just didn't have time -- but I had to do it anyway. This was a painful experience... I'm telling designers from now on NEVER SEND ME A PSD WITH LOCKED LAYERS AGAIN
It would have been so much easier if I could just search for "locked layers", and "unlock all."
how many keyframes and layers I ended up using. Does AE have any kind of function for getting this info?

On here it seems like people have C4Ds for every situation, but I'm currently at a grand total of 4, which makes it difficult to do much with.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two satellite images that I am comparing to look for changes in topography between the two dates at which the images were taken. I was going to use the Layers Divide Mode, but the problem is that any brightness changes AND non-changes show up as white (the algorithm gimp uses is 256*Image1/(image2+1) ), so you can see if the pixels of image1 and 2 are the same, it'll give a pixel with value 256, and if image 1 has brighter pixel than image 2, it will give a value greater than 256...which gets converted back to 256. I've also looked into the Difference and Subtract modes, but they take absolute values or sets anything negative to 0, which skews my results. Basically, I'm wondering if there is something in gimp which will allow me to compare the two images, kind of like creating a ratio image in ENVI where darker colors stand for darkening over time, whiter colors stand for brightening, and greyish colors show non-changes. I want to divide one pixel value by the other, and use that value to create a new ratio image.

In earlier versions, Page Setup was under the File tab, but, for the life of me, I can't find it anymore.
I want to make a normal map with Gimp.

Just downloaded GIMP on Vista and tried to import a PDF file that I need to work on. I got the file into the Import (?) window, clicked on Import and the program whirred away for a while but I can't see or find the file - there's just a blank window.
How can I find my file to work on it? Do I need to load it into GIMP in a special way?
I am trying to figure out layering masking. I have watched some videos at which people use laying masks to color, shade, etc... however they are able to mask the outline as well, but when they color it does not effect the outline.

Edit/ Preferences states that the fonts are to be found in the following directories:
C:UsersHubert.gimp-2.8fonts
C:Program FilesGIMP 2sharegimp2.0fonts (note the '2.0')
The first one is empty, and the second one does not exist.
This problem has been mentioned on the internet, but no answer has yet been stated.
I don't know how to populate those spaces with fonts that can be used by Gimp.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an odd behavior with saving, how to deal with. This is using Gimp 2.6.11 under Windows 7 Professional SP1.
When you do a "Save As" for a new picture, the default directory is "\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\bin". I have been careless and sometimes clicked "Save" without changing the directory. When I go to the directory "C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\bin", the files are not visible. But within Gimp, I can use the "Open" menu item to see them and open them, so they do exist.
how I can delete these files, because they don't belong in the bin directory?
