View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a bunch of images that look like and I want to 'restore' them like
Unfortunately that took an inordinate amount of pixel-fiddling to do and I have over 80 more of them.
Even more unfortunately, that was an 'easy' image compared to some of the others:
Another easier one
I know basically nothing about image processing and my current workflow looks like:
irfanview: convert to grayscale
ms photo editor: adjust contrast
ms pain: clean-up what's left Obviously this is inadequate for the task.

How I choose a color for any new objects I want to create. I've opened the toolbox with ctrl-b, which appears on the left side of the window. If I want to , for example, draw a red rectangle, I use the rectangular selection tool, then the bucket fill, and I don't see how to change the foreground color to red.
I've read elsewhere in the forum that there should be two rectangles somewhere on the screen that show foreground and background color, but I don't see them anywhere.
I've been working on scenery tiles to serve as ground textures for an X-Plane airport. To get seamless transitions between the tiles I work on four tiles at the time and subsequently copy this large image to four smaller ones. Before I started out I ensured that all images were converted to full color (millions of colors) since they came with a limited 256 color palette in the first place. Still, during some copy and paste operations I've got tiles with a drab hue. So, it evidently takes the palette of the image I paste it unto which would make perfect sense if that palette was limited. However, it shouldn't be!
I've got around the problem by pasting problem tiles unto other images or started from scratch with a white canvas. It seems that any existing palette is limited and will skew the hues of a layer being pasted unto it. I work with *.xcf, then *bmp and finally *png in case this makes a difference. So, does a "full color" *.png still have a limited palette? Further, is there a way to ensure that a selection will retain its hues beyond starting out with a global choice of millions of colors?
I'm trying to make a slideshow GIF with about 12 pictures. The problem is that when I convert the image from RGB to indexed, the quality of the pictures are horrible (dithering didn't work). I tried isolating 1 picture from the other 11 layers, and converting it to indexed had great quality.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the problem is that the color palette is too generic, since the palette has to include all colors needed for all 12 pictures
According to wikipedia, the GIF "allows a separate palette of 256 colors for each frame".
Is it possible to create GIFs with separate color palettes for each frame?
I have a great picture of Jet Jaguar. I'm interested in pixel art, so I reduced the colors to an indexed 16 colors.
I want to save the 16 colors in this pic to a palette for later, but how? I've been looking in vain through the menus for a way to save this color map as a palette. Maybe there's a script or plugin somewhere, but it is hard for me to believe there isn't a built-in way to do this.
I just got a copy of CS2 and, I have questions.
I dont do any freehand work and always require pixel precision, also I work with small resolutions <600px at 72dpi/16bit.
How the heck do I kill anti-aliasing, when i set the brush to 1px I only want 1px!?
I have 272x480, 72dpi/16bit image and 2px from the edges I want a 4px border.
(path, drop shadow, inner glow, bev & emb, color overlay, stroke) then I want to bisect it in a number of locations. The problem is I cant do perfect pixle placement and get ugly overlapping. Last program I used I would select path and throw in x,y in all the locations I would want, then select the corner and bevel it to whatever I want. Using the rounded rect tool is nothing but a headache.
As a pixel artist, I could not find the following:
1) I have been searching for a way to edit my color pallette indexes in real time (preferrably through a RGB/HSV slider). Is this currently possible through any means?
2) Is there a way to cause a pixelated effect with the gradient tool (or any tool)? This can be used for quick background effects, speeding up a process for a piece.
3) Turn off the dimming from the navigator window when I zoom in.
4) (See attachment) Adjust the status bar to be more useful than just simple tips. I also don't need a scaling indicator if the navigator window forces me to have one. It would be nice to turn this off for the navigator window as well. Being able to maximize the space for that window would be ideal for more detailed previews.
I already use GIMP for stilled pixel art, and would like to maximize my speed and efficiency doing so.
There used to be a color selection dialog box on the tool bar but it went away somehow. Is there a way to get it back?
View 1 Replies View Relatedso under edit pref and input controllers. I edited the scroll button of the mouse to have zoom in and out. works like a charm. Now, i have seleted to edit the ctrl+scroll up and down features to change brush size. Problem is, it works great right after i have selected the brush and type of tool i want, but as soon as i paint on the image and then hit the ctrl button, it now displays the another tool and i think its the color picker. I try to also scroll the mouse wheel and nothin.
I cant seem to find the option that is controlling the color picker or whatever that tool is to come up when the i hit ctrl. I even searched for color picker under keyboard shortcuts.
How can I find all pixels in an image with an exact, specific color? So far, I've only managed to find the pixels matching a pixel I click on; but I wish to find pixels matching a specific color value!
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to apply a color to selected objects without having to search for the color in the color palette. So say if I am working with an image that has multiple colors but want to use only one of the colors in that image, is there a way to apply it without having to create or add it to the palette.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm often creating pixelart pics with transparent background using Pencil.. if as a secondary color would be an eraser (left click = drawing, right click = erasing). Is there such thing possible?
I can set some color and using Magic Wand (0 % tolerance) remove it or switching between pencil and eraser by keyboard, but - you know :) it's not so fast 'n' convenient. I tried to search for it here, but I guess I don't have correct keywords..
I'm trying to change the color of an image by using pencil, but even though I change the foreground color in Toolbox, the pencil only draws Black.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOther tools seem to work fine.
Example:
Open GIMP
New File, 50x50 px, RGB, 72ppi
Paint Bucket, Lasso, Magic Wand, all work. Pencil, Paintbrush - nothing.
If I open an image, I can select it, duplicate it, color pick, paint bucket and all of the functions in the dropdown menus seem to work, but no drawing or painting.
I made a new template, and my Pencil and PaintBrush would not work. When I tried to draw something, nothing appeared. The icon was there, but no drawing area. I tried to ajust it with the [ and ]. Nothing changed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedBasically, I opened 2.8 this morning and started working on something, but for some reason everything I do can be undone with ctrl+z except for the pencil tool. It doesn't even feature in the undo history, so I have to just use the eraser tool instead. Is this a bug, or is there some setting I need to play with? Because I LIKE the pencil tool :/ and I don't want to have to stop using it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have created a 30 page 8.5 x11 booklet, using Architecture 2012, for a campus mater plan. Now our priciples want to see it in a hand sketch format. I can do the lines with the visual style sketchy but how do I get the solid hatch colors to look like color pencil? I am assuming I will need to use Photoshop but just wondering if there is something I can do in Autocad Architecture.
View 9 Replies View RelatedPencil remains black no matter what forground color I have... There must be a simple setting I am missing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe pencil tool normally doesn't do antialiasing. However, when I stroke along a path with the pencil tool, the result is antialiased anyway. How can I fix this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI like to brush over penciled drawings, now the problem i have is that the pencils tend to not show up as clearly after being overpainted. Can i copy the pencil drawing off the background, and after brushing the other layers fix it onto them, so the pencil lines show up clearly? if yes, how would i have to do this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI accidentally closed my layers palette and I have no idea where to find it!
how to get it to show up again?
I'm trying to select the pencil lines only from a scanned drawing and lose the white back ground so I can set the drawing only onto other layers. How would I go about doing this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedOn a new transparent layer, I have drawn a straight line with the pencil tool. I select the Box Selection tool to select the whole line that I just drawn. I switch to the Move tool and made sure to move just the selection.
At this point, I would think that I would be able to move the line but only the box that is shown by the Box Selection tool moves. The line doesn't move at all. However, when I tell the Move tool to move the selected layer, the whole canvas moves, including the line. Why can't I just select just the line and move it?
How can I reduce the size of the Pencil tool to as little as 1 or 2 pixels? I want to draw fairly fine shadows, and have figured out that creating shadows requires smudging or blurring gradients of black-to-grey, but the default options in the Brushes toolbox are far, far too large.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using gimp 2.8.2 on debian wheezy and have a little problem, which can be reproduced like this:
File -> New (image size 640x400)Ellipse selection tool 60/60 500x280select -> to path
select -> none
Pencil tool settings:
mode: normal
opacity: 100.0
Brush: 2. Block 01
Size: 80
aspect ratio: 20
angle: -45
Edit -> Stroke Path (stroke with a paint tool -> Pencil)
At the top and bottom of the ellipse the outline is discontinued.
With View -> Zoom: 800% the stepsize for the applied pencil can be counted. I count a gap of 8 pixels, but I found no way to configure the stepsize.I'd like to have the pencil applied each pixel along the path.
Using Debian testing - Gimp 2.6.11 and when I create a graphic I try to use airbrush, brush or pencil and I can't get them onto the graphic. The colour tester does get onto the graphic and works.
for the others the cursor vanishes and only the arrows on the ruler top and side move about. The cursor is behind the graphic? Moves out from under when I move off the graphic.
In any case, I have a drawing I did with a pencil, and then I scanned it. Now, I want to scan it, and then paint over it. I have figured out how to paint over the scan, but I am not producing the result I want.
I have attached my scanned image, and the painting. My issue is, I want to have a digital feel to my painting; that is, I want to get rid of the penciling. I am wondering how to accomplish this. I am hoping that I won't have to manually ink the picture.
Here is the "feel" I am going for [URL] ....
