GIMP :: Remove Color Pencil From Between Illustration
Jul 19, 2011
I have a bunch of images that look like and I want to 'restore' them like
Unfortunately that took an inordinate amount of pixel-fiddling to do and I have over 80 more of them.
Even more unfortunately, that was an 'easy' image compared to some of the others:
Another easier one
I know basically nothing about image processing and my current workflow looks like: irfanview: convert to grayscale ms photo editor: adjust contrast ms paint

ms pain: clean-up what's left Obviously this is inadequate for the task.

What I want is to remove all the red stuff and text and be left only with the girl on a white background
I know how to remove all the stuff around the girl, because the background is white and that is simple (Select everything, replace with white, done).
My problem is with the huge "GE" over her hand, shoulder, and hair. How would I go about removing that red part and being left with a good-looking picture without the huge "GE"? I tried decomposing the (red) colors, selecting the red color and making it transparent, and many more things in the Colors drop-menu but I always ended up with some weird results far from what I have in mind. I also tried the Resynthesizer to smart fill but it filled with white
Put simply, is there a way to somewhat "pick" the colors that are "behind" the huge red GE and just remove the red component from them? I guess I could just delete the huge red GE and draw what's missing but I'm not so good at drawing and this picture is very well drawn and high quality and I know I couldn't match this.

Can't print the illustration. The Color Management settings are inconsistent.
I keep getting this message everytime I try to use any of the print script examples in the adobe javascript reference guide. I also tried the script from this thread: [URL] .... and got the same error. I'm using a windows 8 machine but got the error on vista as well.

I am using InDesign CS5 and Photoshop CS5 and have scanned full color illustrations into Photoshop. I am preparing 7x10 saddle stitch and casebound books with the illustrations which need at a 1/8" bleed area. My problem is the illustrations have key elements right up to the edge of them. I need to add complementary colors to fill in the bleed area around them so I don't lose any of the originals. What is the best way to do this? Also, I need to copy colors from the illustrations and make separate pages of the colors to import into InDesign. What is the best method to do this? The colored pages will be the background with story text on them and reside opposite to the illustrations.

I'm often creating pixelart pics with transparent background using Pencil.. if as a secondary color would be an eraser (left click = drawing, right click = erasing). Is there such thing possible?
I can set some color and using Magic Wand (0 % tolerance) remove it or switching between pencil and eraser by keyboard, but - you know :) it's not so fast 'n' convenient. I tried to search for it here, but I guess I don't have correct keywords..

Other tools seem to work fine.
Example:
Open GIMP
New File, 50x50 px, RGB, 72ppi
Paint Bucket, Lasso, Magic Wand, all work. Pencil, Paintbrush - nothing.
If I open an image, I can select it, duplicate it, color pick, paint bucket and all of the functions in the dropdown menus seem to work, but no drawing or painting.

Basically, I opened 2.8 this morning and started working on something, but for some reason everything I do can be undone with ctrl+z except for the pencil tool. It doesn't even feature in the undo history, so I have to just use the eraser tool instead. Is this a bug, or is there some setting I need to play with? Because I LIKE the pencil tool :/ and I don't want to have to stop using it.

I have created a 30 page 8.5 x11 booklet, using Architecture 2012, for a campus mater plan. Now our priciples want to see it in a hand sketch format. I can do the lines with the visual style sketchy but how do I get the solid hatch colors to look like color pencil? I am assuming I will need to use Photoshop but just wondering if there is something I can do in Autocad Architecture.

I like to brush over penciled drawings, now the problem i have is that the pencils tend to not show up as clearly after being overpainted. Can i copy the pencil drawing off the background, and after brushing the other layers fix it onto them, so the pencil lines show up clearly? if yes, how would i have to do this?

On a new transparent layer, I have drawn a straight line with the pencil tool. I select the Box Selection tool to select the whole line that I just drawn. I switch to the Move tool and made sure to move just the selection.
At this point, I would think that I would be able to move the line but only the box that is shown by the Box Selection tool moves. The line doesn't move at all. However, when I tell the Move tool to move the selected layer, the whole canvas moves, including the line. Why can't I just select just the line and move it?

How can I reduce the size of the Pencil tool to as little as 1 or 2 pixels? I want to draw fairly fine shadows, and have figured out that creating shadows requires smudging or blurring gradients of black-to-grey, but the default options in the Brushes toolbox are far, far too large.

I'm using gimp 2.8.2 on debian wheezy and have a little problem, which can be reproduced like this:
File -> New (image size 640x400)Ellipse selection tool 60/60 500x280select -> to path
select -> none
Pencil tool settings:
mode: normal
opacity: 100.0
Brush: 2. Block 01
Size: 80
aspect ratio: 20
angle: -45
Edit -> Stroke Path (stroke with a paint tool -> Pencil)
At the top and bottom of the ellipse the outline is discontinued.
With View -> Zoom: 800% the stepsize for the applied pencil can be counted. I count a gap of 8 pixels, but I found no way to configure the stepsize.I'd like to have the pencil applied each pixel along the path.

Using Debian testing - Gimp 2.6.11 and when I create a graphic I try to use airbrush, brush or pencil and I can't get them onto the graphic. The colour tester does get onto the graphic and works.
for the others the cursor vanishes and only the arrows on the ruler top and side move about. The cursor is behind the graphic? Moves out from under when I move off the graphic.

In any case, I have a drawing I did with a pencil, and then I scanned it. Now, I want to scan it, and then paint over it. I have figured out how to paint over the scan, but I am not producing the result I want.
I have attached my scanned image, and the painting. My issue is, I want to have a digital feel to my painting; that is, I want to get rid of the penciling. I am wondering how to accomplish this. I am hoping that I won't have to manually ink the picture.
Here is the "feel" I am going for [URL] ....

I have a Windows user running Adobe Illustrator CS 5.1. SOMETIMES when she tries to save an Illustrator file over top of an existing Illustrator file, or over top of an existing PDF that she opened in Illustrator, she gets the "Can't save the illustration. The file may be read only, or the file is in use by another application, or you do not have the required permissions. . . ID = -54"
We are saving it to a network location, and to answer the obvious questions - she has rights, the file is not read-only and no one else has it open. If we save the file to her desktop, we can then overwrite the file back on the original network location. If she reboots her computer, this usually clears the issue up for a few days/hours.
All available updates are loaded, and it seems others have the same issue, but I've never seen a good fix, other than save it to your desktop, and then overwrite the file.

See this picture where you'll find a girl's picture on which I worked and tried to convert it in an illustration or vector-like.
You'll see the DOG & Man's picture under that, I wanted to do same like that picture but my result is different, actually mine is dirty. Dog's and Man's colors are visible but mine turned into completely black.
Do you know how they convert that picture into illustration or is it a real vector file?

I've had this 'Can't Print the illustration' window - brand new CS5 suite, brand new computer - 4 days old (Dell, 36bit - would prefer a Mac but there you go).
History - large format packaging file - 600mm x 1200mm. Line drawings. Black and one spot (Pantone) color only. Job needed original English version converted to Chinese language. This had to be done on an older 'chinese' PC in Illustrator 4 with correct Chinese fonts. But after the translator did her job, I needed to return it to CS5 on the Dell to make alterations. Chinese fonts converted to outlines for transfer. Once alterations done, tried to print and got the silly can't print message.
prints fine from Dell in PDF format.
prints fine from Dell in jpeg format.
prints fine form old 'chinese' PC in Illustrator 4 format with either outlined fonts or fonts.
havent had any problems printing anything else in CS5, just this one job.
The only thing I can think of is that there was a problem when converting the Chinese font to outlines there were too many points created and either Illustrator or the printer cracked the irrites.
Although I have been using Macs/PC's and all Adobe programs for over 25 years I HATE trying to figure out this stuff and prefer to just be an end user without trying to figure out why a perfectly reasonable request goes odd.
