GIMP :: How To Find Layers Window Or Place In Menus To Turn It On Or Off
Sep 7, 2013I'm using Gimp 2.8 with Windows 7 on two monitors. I am unable to find the layers window, or a place in the menus to turn it on or off.

May 20, 2013Every time I open up GIMP, I have to reposition the Tool Options menu that's all the way to the left so that I can see the menu options at the top (File, Edit, etc.), and I also have to move around the Layers menu as per my own preference.
Is there a way to pin them to a specific spot in GIMP and save them there so that every time I open GIMP they're in the same position as where I left them at?
GIMP :: Layers Turn Into Text Layers?
Jul 2, 2013my gimp 2.8.6 makes majority normal layers turn into text layers..
Even if i "discard text information" from layer..and then save it as .xcf it doesnt work! Same layers appear as text layers when i open that .xcf Its not a big deal but it really slows me down when im working with layers..

Mar 24, 2012I am an avid gamer and like using gimp to make maps for my games. Now I have look all over for a way to make brushes there own layer with out having to go through the hole seal of creating a new layer shrinking it to fit the brush. then having to drag the new layer to were I want it then having to place the brush.
I just wish to place the brush and automatically have it as a new layer. I have been told to look at Gimp::fu but I don't under stand how to do that kind of stuff.

Feb 27, 2013I had my first go at GIMP last night following a video I found on YouTube.I managed to make some progress.
The main problem I had was trying to find the layers box which is supposed to appear on the RHS of my screen but is absent. I had a fiddle about with Layers in the options toolbar at the top of the screen but that didn't work.

Aug 21, 2012Is there a way to select all the layers in the Layers Window? is: I've got a GIF animation that's comprised of 590 individual layers, and to work on specific layers, It'd be convenient to be able to hide all the layers other than the layer I'm working on - maybe with a dialog under Layers>>Stack>>Select all Layers>>Hide, or an "eye" checkbox at the top or bottom of the Layers window that would select all layers, thereby allowing me to "unhide" the selected layer by checking the "eye" ,(show), checkbox of the relevant layer.
Currently, the only way I know of to work on a specific layer within such a stack is to move the layer to the top of the stack so it becomes the visible layer, perform the work, then return the layer to its original location.
GIMP :: Lost Dock - Layers Window Is Missing?
Jan 21, 2011My layers dock has gone missing. According to the list in my 'Windows' tab, it claims to be open. I have looked all over the screen. I have switched on and off again etc. I have even deliberately thrown other docks off the screen to see if they come back to normal screen area if I close and reopen Gimp- and they do. so it isn't lost off screen.
I have unistalled and re-insalled and it has not come back.
1. Go to Windows>recently closed docks - Mine says 'empty'
2. File>create docks - I don't have this option- mine choices are 'new', 'create', 'open', 'open as layers', ''open location', 'open recent'... then a few which pertain to having an image open that you're working on... then 'quit'.
3. I went to Youtube and the tutorials on how to make your Gimp like Photoshop and how to get back closed windows also haven't worked.
I'm on Gimp 2.6.

Aug 12, 2013We use AutoCad to name our dxf files for our Burn Table and whenever we get a new part it is a repetitive task to input layers and common text. So what I am curious is can AutoCAD input the layers and text automatically using a Macro?
I want the Macro to put in 6 layers and choose the layer color and title then input text boxes with word in 3 different layers. There will be about a total of 10 different text boxes with text already put in the boxes by the Macro.

Dec 1, 2011I found out you can add your own "commands" to the right click menus. So on the default menu I have added a block that we use a lot, that way I don't have to go to the tool pallet or to the ribbon to get it.
I am getting it to work just fine, mostly. I have gone into the CUI and added a new menu under the Default Menu. I then changed the name to Variable Box, the command name is My Box Thing (this is all testing names), the macro is
^C^CSNAP;.025;-insert;C:/Users/rmock/Documents/BLOCKLIST/VARIABLE_IO1A.DWG;;;;-la;s;av-detl-medm;;-insert;C:/ ACAD_ Library/_ Blocks/wiring_ diagrams/ equipment_ID;int;;;;\;;;layerp;layerp;
The variable_io1a file is where the dynamic block is at and the Equipment_id is some attributes that get insurted after placing the block. We have a standard layer we put the block on and one we put the attributes on. However when I run/use this shorcut menu item it inserts it on what ever layer is current in the drawing. How do I get this shortcut menu item to go in on the layer(s) it was made with and not the current layer of the drawing. I don't know if this is clear what I am doing or not. Everything works like I want it to, it inserts where I pick, it asks where I want the attributes inserted, asks for the 3 lines of text and ends the command. It just goes in on the wrong layer.
GIMP :: Single Window Mode - Filter Options Windows Behind Main Window On OSX
Mar 11, 2013As a new user I really prefer the single window mode but have a real problem in that every time I open a filter the window/box that open opens up underneath the single window and I cant see it without minimising the main gimp window. I've played with the preferences windows management options and seem to have all the file options curves etc on top now (these were opening under the single window at one point) but nothing I do seems to want to make the filter boxes open where I can see them - It's making GIMP quite unpleasant to use.

Jun 12, 2013Gimp needs the features found in ms paint. Lots of people do pixel art. Just add some new buttons. Specifically the features I am looking for:
-Re-size canvas using border nodes instead of using menus.
-Uncluttered save feature. Remove export completely. The save file list should include all file types. A bmp should end up a bmp. Let the user set their preference to the default.
- an all in one: select, float, move, anchor select tool( with background transparency toggle). For rapid manipulation of simple objects. (the select tool as used in ms paint)
Gimp has the potential to include each and every feature from ms paint. I see no reason not to. The video game market share alone should be enough incentive to take pixel art seriously. Ive tried inkscape and pencil and graphics gale etc. Gimp is the closest one so far.
