Something strange here, just working on an image idea, thought to try 'Distorts / Emboss' only to find that the function is greyed out. Haven't a clue what to do about it.
I have re-installed gimp and done a reboot with no change so I am stuck.
Specs - OS Ubuntu, Gimp 2.8 single window mode with ppa.launchpad.net/otto-kesselgulasch/gimp/ubuntu precise
I want to take a simple black and white image (not even grayscale) and use it as a stamp to deform a wood grain image. Basically a footprint in the sand type of thing.

I'm running Gimp 2.8.4 on Ubuntu 13.04 Linux (64-bit) and I'm trying touse the "Bevel and Emboss" layer effect on an image which I copied fromanother image. Here is what I've done:
1. Loaded image 'A' into Gimp
2. Selected a portion of it
3. Used "/Edit/Copy" to copy the selection
4. Used "/Edit/Paste As/New image" to create a new image from the selection
5. In the new window for the new image, "/FX-Foundry/Layer effects/Bevel and Emboss"
6. When the "Bevel and Emboss" window opens, I accept the defaults and click "Ok"
The filter starts to run and then stops with an error message. Here is the message I get:

I cannot get an animated gif I save with GIMP to save with 'one frame per layer (replace)' because GIMP won't allow me to choose that! all the 'animated GIF options' are grayed out.

I want to edit the gradient yet when I attempt to move the sliders by clicking and dragging, nothing moves. In addition, when I right click on the gradient window, the gradient editing menu appears but I cannot get it to do anything as the end functions in the menu are grayed out.

I installed the driver for the tablet and it's all ready to go, but when I go to Gimp 2.8 and try to configure the tablet in the "input devices" section, I see "core pointer" in black, and then "Tablet Port:HID, Dim 5500x4000..." and it goes on. Now, I'm quite certain that that is my tablet, but I'm seeing people say they have the bamboo pen and bamboo eraser present but greyed out.

I'm using Gimp 2.6 - windows xp.
I now have xscanimage running from a command line. I added a soft link from .gimp-2.6/plug-ins/ to /usr/bin/xcanimage and restarted gimp. In File/ Create the option for xscanimage remains greyed out. What must I do to make it active?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make some book covers and get a decent emboss effect. I'm only using Photoshop Elements 7 but it does have an Emboss facility in the Stylise part of the Filters menu.
The problem is that whatever I do the embossing always comes out in white/silver when I'm trying to get black. Why the hell is that and why can't it be changed? Does anyone know how?
Is there any plug-in that has more control over bevel/emboss than the basic PS 7 effects. Or has CS 2 improved on the PS 7? Mainly for use with Text.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have 2 separate sketches which will be used to EMBOSS on the curved surface.I can get them to work except i want 1 sketch to be Green when Embossed on the surface in color and the other sketch to be red in color when Embossed with the back ground Black.I can only get it to work as 1 color.I tried with Split command but still no luck.After both sketches EMBOSSED to the surface i can only get 1 color for both EMBOSS

I do emboss and apply gradient and add glow and so on.
Looks all really nice. But then, when I save for web and devices as a .gif file, there is some ugly "blur" around my created shape. As if .gif. interpreted the embossing thing in a wrong way,giving it some color instead of transparency ...
In photoshop7 I make a coloured vector shape.
Then I apply a bevel with an obvious highlight and shadow.
Heres the question:
Is there anyway to then hide the shape so that I just have the bevel and shadow, so that I can overlay this elsewhere
Obviously hiding the shape hides the effect aswell....
I am trying to create a logo similar to the picture I have attached. It isn't exactly embossed, rather imprinted. I am trying to use the digit 6 in avant garde/ century gothic font 62pts, same colors. Somehow, I can't seem to get the desired effect using the embed/bevel layer setting.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there a way I can use the emboss feature in an assembly? We typically laser mark during final assembly and would like to show that as a step in the assembly instructions.
I typically create a sketch with the text and extrude(cut) in the assembly. It works fine for flat surfaces, but cannot do it for other surfaces.
The one way I can think of doing it would be creating ipart with text and using it in the assembly. I would rather not do it this way. Is there any other way to accomplish this with out altering the components (.ipt)?
Is there any plugins that have Bevel and Emboss?

How can I add the file name property to the text. I want the the emboss to update to new file name if I rename the file.

I have a vehicle that is made up of about 15 materials (glass, paint1, paint2, chrome, plastic, rubber, etc.). Many of those separate materials are Multi/Sub-object materials.
The client wants a paragraph of fat text embossed into and wrapped around the vehicle. The text will cross over many different materials. Adding a "bump map" to just one material looks great on "that one" material and is all I need but how can I just add a "bump map" to the entire vehicle model at one time? I've tried adding the bump map to several materials but nothing lines up and it is a nightmare. I just need to wrap a bump map around the entire vehicle and have it "bump" whatever material it is over.

The subject basically says it all. I am trying to emboss two words onto a solid model. Unfortunately it keeps failing. I am copying this model off of U-Tube models "LED LAMP"
Try and use the emboss feature and engrave the words "LED LAMP" On the centre of the top of my solid model part. Top View reads vertically going up the way.
Please edit part 8. Then start the Emboss process. 1/64 = Depth. Flat White colour. Following the video on youtube they use engrave from face then reverse the direction the arrow points towards the model. Then OK. That's the way I am showed it and I can't get it to engrave.
I have embossed text onto a part face with an assigned colour of white (main part colour is black). That is all fine in the part model, and indeed when I use that part in a sub-assembly. But, when I use that sub-assembly in a larger top-level assembly the text is black (which doesn't show up too well on a black background ). I must be missing something in a setting but I can't find it. As a test I brought another white-on-black embossed part into the same top-level assembly and that is absolutely fine.
