Then I apply a bevel with an obvious highlight and shadow.
Heres the question:
Is there anyway to then hide the shape so that I just have the bevel and shadow, so that I can overlay this elsewhere
Obviously hiding the shape hides the effect aswell....
I am trying to create a logo similar to the picture I have attached. It isn't exactly embossed, rather imprinted. I am trying to use the digit 6 in avant garde/ century gothic font 62pts, same colors. Somehow, I can't seem to get the desired effect using the embed/bevel layer setting.
It would be cool if Adobe would have provided a Reverse checkbox for Bevel & Emboss effects, like they did for the Gradients. Is there a quick way to reverse a bevel and emboss effect or do I have to adjust each setting manually?
I created a file in .psd, with several text layers to which I applied effects (fx) such as stroke, bevel & emboss, outer glow. When I flatten the image, the outer glow and stroke remain, but the bevel & emboss effect is gone. Type is a single color without the 3 dimensional effect. Â I am also not able to preserve the bevel & emboss look when saving as a jpeg or a flattened .tif or .pdf. A saved .tif or .pdf with layers shows the effect just fine, but if the pdf is opened with Acrobat instead of Photoshop, the effect is not visible. Â This must be a new problem, because I found a file that I created several years ago that is a flattened .tif with the bevel & emboss effect preserved. Â I tried rasterizing the layer, and the type. Tried converting to 16 bit changing mode to CMYK, and multi-channel. Everything that involved merging layers lost the bevel & emboss effect.
I'm running Gimp 2.8.4 on Ubuntu 13.04 Linux (64-bit) and I'm trying touse the "Bevel and Emboss" layer effect on an image which I copied fromanother image. Here is what I've done:
1. Loaded image 'A' into Gimp 2. Selected a portion of it 3. Used "/Edit/Copy" to copy the selection 4. Used "/Edit/Paste As/New image" to create a new image from the selection 5. In the new window for the new image, "/FX-Foundry/Layer effects/Bevel and Emboss" 6. When the "Bevel and Emboss" window opens, I accept the defaults and click "Ok"
The filter starts to run and then stops with an error message. Here is the message I get:
------------ START ------------------
Bevel and Emboss Message
Error while executing script-fu-layer-effects-bevel-and-emboss:

Illustrator keeps freezing when applying an effect such as texture-grain to a simple gradient, or even rasterizing a simple black circle. My system is about a 6month old macbook pro with 16gb ram, i7 and AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB. What could be causing this? It wasn't like this when i first started using the laptop but has started to do it everytime i try and do any of those simple tasks recently.
I only just got photoshop yesterday and I barely know a thing but I have got an image with 3 layers and I want to make it into a simple animation, displaying each layer in turn.
I'm trying to make some book covers and get a decent emboss effect. I'm only using Photoshop Elements 7 but it does have an Emboss facility in the Stylise part of the Filters menu.
The problem is that whatever I do the embossing always comes out in white/silver when I'm trying to get black. Why the hell is that and why can't it be changed? Does anyone know how?
i was wondering if it is possible to increase the 'height' value higher than the current maximum of 100 pixels [in the Filter>Stylize>Emboss... filter]. This is on Photoshop CS2. I using this multiple times so I wondered if it is possible automatically and not manually.
I'm trying to create some icons using layer style/blending options.
I do emboss and apply gradient and add glow and so on.
Looks all really nice. But then, when I save for web and devices as a .gif file, there is some ugly "blur" around my created shape. As if .gif. interpreted the embossing thing in a wrong way, giving it some color instead of transparency ...
I have never tried this before even tho I am an old hand at general photoshop use, ever since Version 3. Looking for an effect something like Google has. Not all the colors, just the neat pillowed emboss effect.
I keep having this problem where my bevel and emboss effects and other effects disappear when i merge layers or save as a jpeg. Why would that be and how can i prevent it?
i am using photoshop 7 + cannot figure out how to do something. i have a scan of a line drawing in black ink on white paper. first thing i want to figure out is how to make the white disappear so that i can select the drawing itself without the white box around it.
second thing: how do make the line drawing change color? i would like to make it white so that i can place it on a colored background + have it appear to be in relief?
Evertime I try to open my 3-D Extrude and Bevel it opens the option screen but when I select anything on the screen it freezes then the program closes.
I am currently trying to make some text right with a pillow emboss effect. any time I try to save it or merge or flatten it the bevel effect completely disappears. I have Photoshop cs4 on Windows Vista.

I thought maybe just a bevel with lighting and a gradient but nothing I tried came close. The edges seem more precise than anything I did and the creases in the letters, like near the top-right of the 'a' or the middle of the 'h', seem to have depth that an ordinary bevel doesn't create.
Something strange here, just working on an image idea, thought to try 'Distorts / Emboss' only to find that the function is greyed out. Haven't a clue what to do about it.
I have re-installed gimp and done a reboot with no change so I am stuck.
Specs - OS Ubuntu, Gimp 2.8 single window mode with ppa.launchpad.net/otto-kesselgulasch/gimp/ubuntu precise
Layers with a layer style applied, mostly of the bevel or emboss variety, lose the effect when the layers are merged or the image flattened. Doesn't seem to happen with any other styles, like drop shadows or glows: those will stay, but the bevel will not. These are all Normal layers, nothing tricky going on. It's a program fault and I need to know if there's a workaround. I'm having to resort to saving the whole unflattened image as a jpeg so the client can proof the work, but sooner or later I'm going to need to flatten the image. Â Using Mac PS CS5 Extended, abundance of RAM & Disk space.
