I want my pencil to be different in size from the eraser. Is there any other way other than to assign a new brush every time the tool is needed? I thought of maybe writing a script (possible?) to add another menu bar with my tools preconfigured.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm quite new to the GIMP, though fairly experienced with Photoshop. I have a rather unusual requirement, and I'm wondering if the GIMP can meet it.
I'd like to set up a gradient and then draw freehand trails with a brush that gets its colours from the gradient, sawtooth style. So far, so good; I know how to do that.
What's unusual, is that I'd actually like the colours to cycle through the gradient by time, not by distance. In other words, if I move the mouse slowly, the colour sequence will be compressed, and if I move it faster, it'll be stretched out. Is this possible?
I seem to recall that there's an animated brush feature... maybe that's the way to go? Can it animate through a sequence of colours? If you're wondering why I want this, it's because I want to emulate what it would look like if you looked at the Crab Pulsar (from, say, a mere few AU) via a small pocket mirror, and rocked the mirror rapidly by hand.
By the way, 2.7 doesn't seem to have the "Use colors from gradient" option for the brush. Had to revert to 2.6 to match the online tutorials I found... In fact, in 2.7 I couldn't find any way to paint with a gradient (except "random").
Is there a way to rotate the paintbrush tool? There's many times when I'm using a brush and it's at the wrong angle. Placing the brush on a separate layer and then rotating the layer is a huge hassle. Therefore, I was wondering if there was a way to rotate brushes.

1. Is there a way to get it to change the colors of different shapes at the same time in the Assign tab?
2. The blue circle in the color wheel is clearly changing the hue of the blue, though with the other two arms, the circle with the black ring around it, when I drag it to darker hues it changes both the star and the polygon while the other circle only changes hues sometimes if I drag it somewhere completely different. How does this process work?.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with the Blob Brush tool where I can't change the basic brush to something else. Whenever I pick a brush I want and I try draw with the Blob Brush tool, the brush I picked reverts back to the basic brush. Here are screenshots:

Am I doing something wrong or is the Blob Brush tool only capable of using the basic brush?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using a tablet with gimp and I want to be able to set the brush size for the paint brush and also for the eraser, separately. What happens now is that I'll set the paintbrush size to 10px, paint for a little while, turn the pen over to erase and the eraser will now be at 10px. So I'll adjust the eraser size to something like 50px, erase, turn over, and now the paintbrush is at 50px. Grrrrrrr... I tried creating new brushes for both the paintbrush and the eraser, but there's no brush size option. This is my first time using gimp so I'm probably missing something.

Google is not being useful, nor does Adobe's own forum searches yield anything useful.
I have seen mention of Smart Filters and designating the layer as a Smart Object in order to enable a Smart Filter but I can't seem to get the real time display of the filter when painting so I'm not sure if that proccess is at all useful for me or not as I can't locate information specific to what I'm trying to do.
I'm incidentally using CS5, so if this option doesn't exist, that would be useful to know so that I'm not spinning my wheels.
I'd like to be able to use one tool with two different options at the same time. For example the cloning tool once in 30 % and second in 100 %.
Maybe Adobe could think about this upgrade?
Photoshop CS6 crashes all the time and especially when using the type tool.

Older versions of Photoshop would fill in all the paths at the same time so I don't see why the pen tool would be capable of doing that in a newer version.

I should have the latest drivers, which eliminates what might otherwise be the most likely cause. This happened during beta as well, but I chalked it up to it being a beta version. Did not happen with CS5.5 or previous.

When using the rotate tool, you used to be able to use the hand tool even when the Rotate dialogue box was up. Is there a way to get that back?
I make Mandalas [URL] and work from the center out. This poster is 18"x24" so once I start to get to the outer edge, I'm zoomed into the center at 6400% so I can get my crosshairs as precise as I can, then enter a number (45 degrees, 20 degrees, etc.). Clicking Preview works, but if you're zoomed in and the object is out of view, you have to guess where it's going. In CS5, you could press down the space bar and use the Hand Tool even while the dialog box was up.
when i bring a image in and use zoom tool i lose pic and have to zoom a few more times to get image back is their away to keep the image from disappearing every time u use the zoom tool?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been working on several files for some package design. Every time I try to replace some text that happens to be sitting over a linked photo, illustrator freezes up and crashes. Every single time without fail, it fails.
I tried to move the same piece of text off the artboard, modify it, and move it back, but it crashed even while off the board (and not on top of an image).
I'm running Windows 7, up to date on all software (windows & adobe included). Using Illustrator cs6, 64bit. I'm running on a new machine as well - though I was having this issue on another computer as well.
I've used GIMP for about 12 mo. and really like it... but the last 11 mo. I've had a problem everyday with it 'freezing'. I have to use ALT/CONTROL/DELETE to get out of it and start over... and I lose my work. It usually happens when I use the 'eraser' but NOT ALWAYS. Is there a Fix or will downloading a new version correct the problem?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo i hit the little "T" text tool, and i get the generic Windows 7 "This program has encountered a program and needs to close" error. I click out of the error box, and all my work disappears as well as any changed preferences and recently opened files. The same happens when i try to use Image> Adjustments>HDR Toning. Yay. And what's funny is BOTH errors display a fault module of "CoolType.dll."
I have tried EVERYTHING that everyone has posted about on every computer-related forum that i could find. NOTHING has worked at all. I deleted every single font minus the system fonts, including anything mentioning them in the system registry. Tried new copy of the dll file, nothing. Reset Photoshop preferences, nothing. System restore failed. Uninstall/reinstall of entire Adobe Master Collection failed.
Oh, and in the 32-bit version, HDR Toning works but the text tool gives me an error message that "something prevented the text engine from being initialized." And, well, i just don't want to use the 32-bit version.
I was wondering if anyone knew what is wrong with my smudge tool. When I go to use it and apply it to my image, it takes a while to show the affect. Everything else in my photoshop works fine. Oh yeah, I use PS CS if that makes any difference.
