GIMP :: Additional Add-ons Like Plug-ins

I just downloaded Gimp 2.8 and was wondering if there was anything else I needed to download before I got started with the learning curve, and it looks like a long one.
Many times when you download a program like this, you notice there are a lot of additional add-ons, like plug-ins, etc., and when you start to read about them everything kind of runs together and becomes much more complicated than it should be. I'm afraid I might step into the trap of wanting everything right now instead of just working with what I need.

done a modestly complex flyer layout which, by now, should be printed by a professional service. Unfortunately, those would like to have a CMYK PDF image, including an additional layer for a "highlight" color (which should be gold or silver, not sure yet). I've done a bit playing and, so far, am unsure about whether (and/or how) such a kind of pre-print color separation can be done using GIMP, or whether I would have to do this in another way. how to get my xcf stored in a way feasible for this kind of printing?

I am wondering how to use the plug in browser as if I am correct a plug in that is properly installed should show here and the tree view show where to access it.
Under file -->create -->buttons we have round buttons and simple beveled buttons but in the plug in browser tree view they come under file -->create .
Some of the plugins that do show up (3D outline) are temporary procedures. many others I cant even find (speed text). Is the problem the plug in browser or me if me where am I wrong ?

I want to create a plug-in that will improve detail in under- and over-exposed areas of photos, but I can't get as far as duplicating a layer. I'm new to GIMP plug-ins. My plug-in below is intended to create a copy of the image's layer and add the layer to the image.
The plug-in will register in Windows 7 (GIMP 2.8) but won't register in Ubuntu 12.04 (GIMP 2.6.12). In Windows, the plug-in gives an error. I don't get an error if I comment out line 8: Code:

I have followed the instructions here [URL]......... installed GTK+, fiddled and cajoled and still I cannot get python scripts to run from within Gimp. The scripts show up in the menu within Gimp, but when clicked on, do nothing.
I am using Windows 7 32 bit, Gimp 2.6. I installed Python 2.6, pygtk all-in-one installer 2.2.

So I am making digital color prints at 24x30. the photography work is about color fields and gradients, so I need super high res files. I have set the size to 24000x30000 pix at 1000 dpi..now my problem, when i go to save the gimp file as a jpeg i get this error message "JPEG image plug-in could not save image"

Why on earth would Adobe remove the ability to point to a folder for additional plug-ins? I'm sure they will have lots of good reasons. However, the standard folder is embedded in the AppData folder in Windows. That folder resides on the system (C:) drive. I always install Plugs in a folder on a separate drive on my system (D:) so as to make it easy to manage and navigate.

If I try and load new 3D materials using the "Load Materials" menu item Photoshop sends me to a web page which no longer allows logins due to the transition to Revel. Since Revel appears to be for user content I can't see why the 3D materials would be there.Where are the additional 3D textures for Photoshop ? I have searched Adobe.com but cant find a mention of them directly.

Just purchased VideoStudio Pro x6. Attempting a slideshow and noticed I have only 3 transitions, whereas the individual who's tutorial I'm following has over a dozen. Where can I obtain additional transitions? Activated the GetMore button inside the program and it brings up quite a bit of additional content, but it's unclear to me if any of it contains additional transitions.

is there maybe way in Xara Designer X to paste a picture to all frames?
Basically I have an animation with several frames, now the concept changed that new pictures should be put in it. But currently I could do only one by one copying to each frame.
The first try was maybe add to the picture to a group which is a named object anyway anyway, but as I perceive that puts it only to the first frame.

We have not upgraded our computers in 5 years. We did upgrade the OS to Windows 7, 64 Bit and are running C3D 2012. We are currently using Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00 GHz with 4 GB ram. I am recommending upgrading the ram to 8GB.
We have a test computer with 8 GB of ram that I ran some timed tests to determine how much of a performance increase we will get. I timed opening C3D, opening drawings, rebuilding surfaces, rebuilding corridors, editing corridors with grips and switching layouts. Based on those tests I have seen almost no improvement that I can show with timed tests.
Memory usage was 70%-75% while running the tests when with 4 GB of ram and 45%-50% with 8 GB ram. The drawings I opened were from one of our largest project. The surface drawing is 50 MB with about 15 MB of xrefs.
Am I testing the wrong functions? Are our projects too small to take advantage of the additional ram? Why are most system recommendations I see in the DGs for 12 GB of ram or more?

Is it possible to add additional color labels? The existing ones are a bit... primary. It would be useful to include other (well, secondary) colors as well. Also, black/gray/white would be nice.
Can I add them myself somehow, or do we need to fall onto our knees and cry out to Adobe? I hope not.
Using Lightroom 4.3 atm, considering an upgrade to 5.0. If this were a 5.0 feature, I'll consider it a selling point

I had previously set Photoshop Elements as my ext. editor. After installing Nik Silver Efex, Elements is no longer listed but Silver Efex is. Under Preferences, the only Preset is Silver Efex. How do I get both Elements and Silver Efex to show when selecting Edit IN?

in Lightroom 5.3, I have reached page 239 on creating a large landscape photobook. Now on adding additional pages, Lightroom says "page limit reached - The current output format limits the page count to 240, so additional pages cannot be added". I changed the layout of the book to hard cover image wrap and the paper type to standard. But Lightroom continues to give the same message.
Now my question is, if there is a page limit in Lightroom. On the Blurb homepage the limit for a photobook with this layout with standard paper is 440 pages. I have spent a lots of time in creating 239 pages and I don’t want to restart.

Is there a way to add an additional audio track to either the music track or voice tracks? In other words, instead of one voice track and one music track is there a way to add a third track? I have many sound effects and music and there are parts of my project that need more than two audio tracks.

When I add an addtional plugin using preferences-plugins in CS6 the plugin shows up in cs6 but my active tools will pulsate or vibrate around when I try to use them. If I uncheck the preferences-plugins- additoonal plugins and reboot the pulsating of the tools ceases. Any way to stop the pulsating tools?

I'm using VS X4 (I know - I'm behind the times!) and I am wanting to burn a DVD of a clip that has more than four chapters.
I the 'Menu and Preview' section I am offered a Main Menu and additional Chapter Menu which has up to four chapters on it. They are faily basic affairs. I have changed the background to have the same static picture and the same title 'Cornwall 2013'.
The Main Menu simply has a play button only along with a link called 'Scene Selection...' which takes the viewer to the Chapter Menu screen. The Chapter Menu has the four relevant chapters that can be selected along with the standard navigation buttons.
The problem is that in the Menu and Preview section it only allows me to edit the first page of the Chapter menu screen ( as I say I have more than four chapters so there are several screens).
The problem is when I go to preview, the second page of the Chater Menu instead of having 'Cornwall 2013' has the clip name displayed instead (which initially was 'Unknown' until I renamed it.
I also want to give the Chapters 'proper' names, but I don't know how to access the Chapters after number 4. I cannot seem to rename them in the add/edit chapter section either? I can only sem to change the first four chapter names as that is all I am offered.

Having an assembly, modeled in the frame generator, then with some additional parts (ribs, plates, etc) added to the assembly as parts and constrained with assembly constraints.. which is the best way to do a frame analysis with the frame analysis enviroment for considering the all structure (frame generators parts + the additional enforcing parts) ?
The assembly look like for example, to this (modeled in autocad).
