GIMP :: Adding Fill Light
Oct 10, 2012I have a picture with faces, but the faces are heavily shadowed. In Picasa I would add a little fill light, but can't seem to see how to do it in GIMP 2.8. Is there a way?

Anyway as I work my way through the patches and other updates I come across the add for Newblue FX. Adding the light rays.

I am new to LR 4, so I might be missing something here. But I imported my first batch of images, and the first 15 or so have fill light, brightness and contrast as adjustments. When I click on an image beyond that, those options go away. Why the menu would change. Can do to have the option to adjust the fill light, brightness and contrast on the others?

I used a heart fill pattern of the right 75% of the picture and the left 75% of the picture is selected overlapping the first fill in the background... I want to fill the selected background area with a flame fill pattern where it overlaps the selected portion of the heart pattern as well as the transparent area... 'overlay' looks better but Gimp is FAILING to fill the transparent areas, it ONLY fills the overlapped heart pattern portion of the selected content!!! I even tried filling the transparent area with 'white' then filling the selected area, but it STILL ONLY wants to overlay fill the heart pattern, it STILL leaves the rest alone!!! it doesn't matter if the background is white or transparent, it leaves that alone and ONLY fills the heart pattern area of selected portion of the image!!!
I'm trying to find a way of adding "film burn" or "light leak" effects (which give a faded, colour distorted, 70s look) to clips while editing in VSProX4. I'm working with SD avi clips, in a 4.3 aspect ratio (made with Mpeg Streamclip). find something like a "grunge" effects plug-in, compatible with VS ProX4, that is not too expensive.
My OS is windows vista, 32 bit with a 98G hard drive and 4G of ram (on Toshiba Satellite Intel duo laptop).
Whenever I go to appearance panel menu > Add new fill when text is selected, the add new fill button is grey and I can’t add a second fill. I can add a new fill to shapes, but not text.

But where has the rightclick>replace bitmap function gone?
Now one needs to go through the menu>import and adding through the bitmap gallery or fill gallery adding a folder again.
For me dragging from win explorer doesn't work.
At least not adding it to an object, only adding a new photo to the page

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to use a 3rd party brush to 'color in' parts of a drawing or paint the background so it has a nice effect. However, when I use the brush tool to add color it reacts in an odd way as seen in the snapshot. I've looked at the brush options but am unsure of what will make a difference. Is there a way of devoting more ram to the program when I'm using it?
Is there an alternative way of adding the same stroke to the actual fill of a shape? At the moment all of my fill colors are block colors rather than having a kind of chalk / pastel texture that I can get with the brush. Basically, I would like to fill shapes with textured color rather than flat color.
I'm sure everyone has seen this in some form or another, beit in a movie, video game, or in real life; An object in the dark being silhouetted against a bright light and light seems to leak from around the object in rays along its edge. What this phenomenon is called, and even if you don't, how to recreate the effect in GIMP?

how I could achieve the effect in the attached image?
I.e. I have a blueprint drawing (dark background with thin white lines) and I want to add an effect as if the white lines were slits that light was shining through.
I have been doing light box photography, but I want to get that pure white background as product images usually have.
My background is a light grey.. Using the wand tool, I was able to get close - but far from close enough.

What's the right method, to turn every thing around the dime, white?
Here it is before the wand,

When you apply a drop shadow, the shadow is cast in the same direction from all parts of the object. E.g. the shadow is projected to the right and downwards from the object. In other words the light source is far away and it produces parallel rays of light.
Is there a way to cast a shadow where the light source is quite close to the object? For example imagine the light source was just above the object. Parts of the object on the left would have their shadow projecting to the left and down and parts of the object on the right would have a shadow projecting to the right and down.
What difference does it make if the active layer is highlight in dark blue or light blue?
I should know this by now!
I am trying to animate a casino-like light board made of tens of light bulbs/leds. I thought the easiest way to do it would be creating a matrix of bulbs arranged by material ID and then design a pattern in multi sub-object materiel so I could somehow scrub through it and achieve animation effect. The material modifier allows to change ID for the whole object only and MaterialByElement shuffle ID`s in a random manner.

I am attempting to build a facsimilie enigma machine, I would like to know how best to create an effect so that when a key is pressed a corresponding letter appears to light up. Btw I am not looking for an animated image, I can take care of the transitions between on and off, I just need to create the two image states.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've created a complicated polygon (hundreds of nodes) with the Paths Tool and am trying to fill it. When I select the Bucket Fill Tool, I get a tiny little error message at the bottom that reads: "Cannot modify the pixels of layer groups". Now then, I do have a Layer Group in the Layers tab to collect text items, but this is a Path in the Paths tab (which I thought was separate).
I have tried switching the path from Stroke to Selection, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
In the past, I've used Fireworks (mainly), Photoshop, and Illustrator with varying degrees of success.
How do I bucket fill the way Paint does, where it fills every thing of a similar color? (or every thing adjacent, I don't remember.) It keeps filling my entire canvas, instead of the area I want.

When I use the bucket tool to fill in an area, how can I select a color? It just uses black by default and I can't find a way to change this.

I have created a document, and when I printed it out to see how it turned out, I noticed that I left margins on all four sides. I need the document to fill the page in its entirety, as it is going to be one of those "tear off the phone number at the bottom" type of advertisements.
Is there some way that I can "zoom in" everything that I've created, so it fills an entire 8.5x11 piece of paper?
I'll keep digging while I wait for the wisdom of the forums. Here is a link to the .xcf: [URL] .....
