Photoshop :: Making Silhouette Of Image

Nov 26, 2011

I am trying to make a silhouette of the Ford Fair lane in the zip file attached below, and place it into the BANNER_ONE.psd document. This is for a contest (redesigning the banner), so I have attached the current banner as well (profile_header.jpg).

The requirements for the banner are as follows:

incorporate "the driver's seat of youtube" and "the most automotive variety" (DONE)incorporate featured in car and driver, perhaps with that October 2011 issue cover (DONE)incorporate something related to the make a wish foundation silhouette design possibly using the 65 fairlane.

So, what is the best way to trace a silhouette of the Fairlane, similar to the one in the original banner? I was thinking the Pen Tool, but seeing as how I'm on a laptop and don't have access to an external mouse until late tomorrow (I'm away for the weekend), that's not the best option at the moment.

Photoshop :: Best Way To Create A Line Silhouette Of An Image

Feb 25, 2007

I have an image that has a set of curved lines in it. I want to keep just these lines from the image, and delete everything else.

Can people recommend what is the best way to accomplish this?

I know that i could use the pen tool to manually trace over these lines, and i don't need to preserve the color of the lines, so this would work. But it would be better to not have to do it manually.

I've successfully used the magic wand tool to select the area outside of these lines, and i can then invert the selection to select the area inside of these lines. This should put me about one step away from getting to where i'm trying to go, but i don't know what the final step should be.

GIMP :: How To Fill Areas Of Rotated Image (2013)

Aug 19, 2013

I'm trying to rotate an image. Actually, I figured out how to rotate it. But I can't figure out how to fill in the "empty" triangular areas that represent the area between the edges of the original image and the horizontal and vertical edges of the canvas. I would like to fill these spaces so it is not obvious that the image was rotated. How can I do this?

What is the standard way to manipulate images in this manner?

I've attached a sample image that I rotated.

GIMP :: Make Square Image Wider - How To Fill Up New Space With Extra Sky So It Looks Natural

Feb 26, 2013

My question concenrs this photo: [URL] ... (this is my own photo by the way). Just so you know what I mean with 'sky' later on: you're looking at balconies.

I want to extend it on the left so I can make it a desktop wallpaper. However, the original photo does not extend far enough to allow me to just crop differently. How can I, using GIMP, fill up the new space so that it looks like the sky that's already there?

I have GIMP for Mac version 2.8.3.

GIMP :: Fill Selected Background Area With Flame Fill Pattern

Dec 17, 2012

see xcf attachment...

I used a heart fill pattern of the right 75% of the picture and the left 75% of the picture is selected overlapping the first fill in the background... I want to fill the selected background area with a flame fill pattern where it overlaps the selected portion of the heart pattern as well as the transparent area... 'overlay' looks better but Gimp is FAILING to fill the transparent areas, it ONLY fills the overlapped heart pattern portion of the selected content!!! I even tried filling the transparent area with 'white' then filling the selected area, but it STILL ONLY wants to overlay fill the heart pattern, it STILL leaves the rest alone!!! it doesn't matter if the background is white or transparent, it leaves that alone and ONLY fills the heart pattern area of selected portion of the image!!!

Paint.NET :: How To Fill Text With Image But Keep Anti-aliasing On Edges Of Image

Sep 18, 2013

Here is what I want to do.  I have the letters 'XC' which I've played with a bit to look the way I want and due to anti-aliasing has nice edges.  Now I want to basically fill those letters with an image.  I can't figure out how to do this and keep the nice anti-aliased edges.

Current steps:

1. load image as base layer
2. Create new layer with text in it
3. using magic wand select a threshold that has smoothest edges on text layer
4. select image layer and copy the selection area... notice the hard edges of the finished result in the attached example.  I want it nice and smooth and anti-aliased.

How to do this more elegantly?  I've attached the basics of what I'm doing and the result.

Photoshop :: Fill Image With Texture From Another Image

Nov 22, 2013

I'm still new to PS and don't even know where to start!  I have an image, it's a logo and is just a 3D letter H.  I have been able to use pattern fills to create different version of the logo with different pattern fills.  I am oddly enough trying to fill the "H" with the texture of a roast turkey from another image.  I can isolate the outline of the letter that I want to fill but I'm not sure how to fill it.   I've tried rubber stamping but that doesn't seem to work for me.

Photoshop :: Extracting Silhouette

Dec 10, 2007

I have an image that I would liked to get the shape from and enlarge to 24" (that is not the full-res image.). I am trying to extract the rings along with the torch, meanwhile making that pattern black and the background white. I can use the magic wand at certain tolerances to get it out, but, like the picture, the edges are not sharp, but pixelated. is there a way I can extract this shape but have very smooth and defined edges, even if the picture does not have them? im trying not to have to zoom in real far and use the lasso to outline the entire thing myself.

I might add that extract edges doesn't work too well on this image

GIMP :: Cannot Fill A Path

Jan 13, 2014

I've created a complicated polygon (hundreds of nodes) with the Paths Tool and am trying to fill it. When I select the Bucket Fill Tool, I get a tiny little error message at the bottom that reads: "Cannot modify the pixels of layer groups". Now then, I do have a Layer Group in the Layers tab to collect text items, but this is a Path in the Paths tab (which I thought was separate).

I have tried switching the path from Stroke to Selection, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

In the past, I've used Fireworks (mainly), Photoshop, and Illustrator with varying degrees of success.

Illustrator :: How To Turn A Silhouette Into Outline

Oct 2, 2013

I need to create a line drawing of the outline of a chair. I tried following the various Illustrator tutorials to take the image of a chair and create a silhouette. However, I can't figure out how to take this silhouette and get just the outline of it. The Illustrator Image Trace tool doesn't seem to have an option to just save the outline.

Is there an easy way in Illustrator or Photoshop to turn this silhouette into an outline image that I can save as a file? I will print the outline in a very light opacity so that the lines are barely visible for hand rendering. I don't want to use the pen tool to outline the silhouette because my hand is too shaky to do a good job.
