AutoDesk Smoke :: Sharing Shared Libraries?
Apr 29, 2013so we have two smokes running on our network. We can wire between them no problem but have been trying to setup a shared library. We have setup a shared library on both machines but neither shows up in the other machines media list like I imagined it would. Is there a strategic hot key that we are missing?

AutoDesk Smoke :: License Server Not Responding?
Sep 7, 2012I just upgraded Lion to Mountain Lion. After that the license server wont start. I opened a case on the suscription page but it is weekend and I think wont get support. Really need to use Smoke over the weekend.

AutoDesk Smoke :: Removing Whole Project - Random Folder(s) Still In Media Storage Folder
Aug 22, 2012Not sure if it's a bug or not but when removing a whole project the "random" folder(s) are still in the Media Storage folder. Everything connected to the project(s) are gone but not the random folder smoke creates when creating project files. Any specific reason their still in the Media Storage folder?
Im a bit of a neat-freak... After removing a whole project, is it safe to remove all the empty folders? Or would that cause problems for other projects?

Nov 15, 2012Every time I try to connect to adobe.com I always arrive on the Autodesk Tool with Backburner and WiretapCentral page.
I can used each browser I own it still the same. I try to flush cookies everywhere and it's the same.
It looks like the page adobe.com (YES) is redirect to a local page from Autodesk.(only [URL])
I try to do the same in an other user account on my mac, and it is the same.
So I look in the activity monitor to locate if an Autodesk thing is on. I isolate BackburnerManager and BackburnerServer, on. (Smoke is off)I tried to hard quit them but I couldn't
AutoDesk Smoke :: Macbook Isn't Showing Up As Server In Localhost
Feb 18, 2013So I've installed Smoke for Mac 2013.2 on my macbook and everything has been working great up until a day ago. Now when I go to localhost/ backburner no servers show up. When I try to import something into smoke with cache media enabled, I get the error "Cannot connect to backburner manager 'localhost' on port 0" Also my Backburner Manager seems to be stopped in the service monitor and everytime I restart it, it shuts back off again.
What I've tried
Going through "mikes_backburner_guide.pdf" and a few others to get the networking right. Uninstalling and reinstalling smoke 2013 multiple times and restarting my computer many, many times.

Mar 2, 2014I'm running Smoke 2012 on a fully loaded MBP. I'm having problems exporting QTs. Constantly get this error:
Cannot get local IFFFS wiretap server's storage id: Connection refused.
I have to do a full power cycle, then maybe it will work. This used to be an occasional occurrence, but now happens almost every time, unless I've only just powered up. Once Smoke has been running for a few minutes, forgetaboutit. I never have this problem when I can use the Export button; but this button is greyed out when QT is selected, which means it has to be dropped into the queue, then exported from the background page. Perhaps this is where the issue lies.
AutoDesk Smoke :: Why Not Use SSD System Disk As Media Storage
Apr 15, 2013I've heard it said that it's not a good idea to use your system disk as the media storage, but I've never heard why. I'm running on a Retina MBP with a 750GB SSD. I did a couple of small jobs using it as the media storage and everything worked fine and fast. Then I archive it off to a slower drive. So what's the problem with doing that? SSD is way faster than USB 3 spinning drives & even Thunderbolt. I read somewhere that SSD isn't good for high end video editing, etc., but don't understand why.

Aug 26, 2011I got that message when I was trying to export a Quicktime movie - although it appears it's going to let me continue to export the Quicktime - I'm hoping it'll have audio when all is said & done. Although I understand the words, I have the following questions:
1. What does it really mean?
2. How will affect me/my life/the Quicktime file I'm exporting?
3. Perhaps most importantly, why is it happening & what can I do to prevent it in the future?
The file I'm trying to export is the same one from the 7-hour Process time thread I posted about on here recently. It's the simplest possible thing:
- 1 Layer of around 15 "reels" spliced together
- 1 (adjustment) Layer of a single color correction gap effect that runs the length of the whole timeline (don't think this has anything to do with the problem at hand)
- 1 audio track w/ 2 mono layers, L&R, of a single AIFF soundtrack file

Jan 9, 2013I have calculated some test renders on a small portion of the timeline in order to check things up. Now I would like to delete them and calculate everything at a later time.
Do you know the way to delete renders in order to save hard disk space ? I have tried the "force purge" function, but it didn't delete anything, the "Autodesk media storage" folder is still the same size...
And manually deleting renders in the "Autodesk media storage" folder messes everything up.

Jun 17, 2011there is a Folder with MXF-Files on our Network that I am accessing trough the gateway. The folder contains 1600 Files. The Browser Display Options are set to Titles. Smoke needs approximately 20 Minutes to show the content of this folder. Every other software on the machine does this within one second. why that is and is there something I can do to speed it up?

Aug 21, 2013My Smoke just crashed and there is the possibility of loosing all my projects. I have localized some files that I want to "recover" even if they are all scrambled. The problem is that these files seem to be single frames .mov files. If I try to import them to another Smoke they will be imported as single files and there are 6000 of them. How can I tell Smoke to treat the individual .mov files as a single sequence. I renumbered the files.

I would like to create a junction point or relocate the /hd/var/discreet folder to another drive. It would be nice to be able to refresh this machine at moments notice. It seems that this is one of the only points that need to be kept that reside on the local HD.

Dec 16, 2011I recently went bi-platform (IMac and Windows computers being used). I have a home network. My Lightroom cat and all my images originally resided on my Windows computer's harddrives (four on board). After purchasing the IMac, I installed Lightroom on it and copied my cat files to it as well. All my photos continue to reside on my Windows computer's four internal harddrives so I turned on Sharing on the Windows computer for a test drive. (Yep, the photos are backed up to external drives). Anyway, when I launched my cat on the IMac in Lightroom, the thumbs and corresponding data appear just fine but when I point the thumb to the photo file on the shared harddrive, the thumb in the catalog disappears. Major bummer! Fortunately, I haven't done a bulk "find" otherwise I would have lost the entire catalog contents.
Will Lightroom not work with photos stored on shared internal harddrives via home network?? I have read that it does work with photos stored on external harddrives but I would prefer to keep my photos on the four internal harddrives.

I chose the option "Play From Memory" and surprise I can play only 40 frames.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Save A File To A Shared Dropbox Folder
Feb 22, 2013I noticed that my computer was slowing up, BIG time. This thing's got dual quad core Xeon, 12gb DDR3, ATI FireGL V8600, etc. I could hear it processing something constantly and as I was in CAD I couldn't really do anything. When I opened the task manager and looked at the processes, "accoreconsole. exe" (an AutoCAD component) was using 10.5gb of memory. On my performance tab, my memory was maxed at 11.5gb for at least a half hour.
Today, I dealt with it all day long by ending the process whenever I'd notice it on the list of processes, or if the computer suddenly began to lag. I've also been having trouble with Dropbox. Not sure if this would at all be related but, if I try to save a file to a shared dropbox folder, it gets to 81% and freezes with the (Not Responding) message up top. I can save just fine to my network folder though.
