We are unfortunately limited to using only the HDMI connection because Smoke 2011 doesn't support component out. Using the HDMI connection means we're limited to a 60Hz refresh rate which, generates flickering cross fades, and strobing with fast moving video. The component connections allow us to utilize a 100Hz refresh rate which eliminates these issues. After a little research, I have learned that Panasonic does not make a professional grade plasma monitor that supports higher than 60Hz through HDMI.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhich option to set for any case on Adjust box.
There is a box below the Stablizer button. Pressing the Adjust Box for a while, it pops up with 3 options which are Adj off, Adj Axis, Adj offset. I've used "Adj off" all the time as default.
On the other side, there is one more Adjust box for Vertices. I don't get it either. I just used it set to "Adj Tangents" as any tutorial said.
I tried to understand it from user guide, but it is still unclear.
I have used smoke for a few years now, and one of the things that I find frustrating is the camera controls in action.Would it be possible to have a control hotkey set-up like maya/XSI/3DS? Some other softwares allow you to choose the keyboard set-up.
Using the maya set-up:
Alt - left mouse : tumble
Alt - middle mouse : track
Alt - right mouse : dolly
This means while looking though the lens you can move the camera in any orientation, you only need to hold down the alt key and use the 3 button mouse/Wacom to navigate.
When i scrub playback control in the cfx , it's slower compare to if i scrub the same thing (same viewport layout) inside the timing editor timeline. In timing editor the scrubbing response is a lot smoother even when we're looking at the same objects on the viewer. The playback control need to be fixed.

Right now I am using 2 computers, a mac pro and a macbook pro. I would like to use my MacPro's keyboard and mouse to control the macbook pro much like a mouse and keyboard on a second display. I've been using an application called teleport, but it doesn't allow me to use keyboard commands.
I've heard/used synergy, but it's to much work for the final product.
what i like in fcp, i can easily doing cut very fast, because the clip is not 'sticky'. So i can grab the clip and move and i got a very 'light' drag. The timeline is more 'slippery' ... i don't know how to say it. The drawback is : it's sometime become too sensitive so i can easily by accident move the cut and mess up the edit. I become paranoid , so i have to hold my breath while clicking :-) . But again the pros : it's easy to do fast edit or to crumble cuts around.
In the other hand .. what i like in smoke , this will rarely happen that i accidentally move the clip while i intend to click it. It's more 'sticky' to the timeline. So there's like more friction while try to drag the clip (only when first click/drag the clip not when the clip is already floating). The drawback is sometime i feel , it's hard to do some fast cut just by moving the clip around. :-) well, as usual, if we have 2 options, option A and option B, then we will tend to ask : do i have option C ( somewhat between A and B) ?
I'm asking is there any sensitivity control while i drag the clip. So it's between FCP and SMOKE. Something like a 'treshold' parameter.
I'm noticing with the new 2012 released, start up times are much slower. This seems to be caused by a 3 minute long control surfaces: intialising. The only control surface I'm using is a Intos tablet. Is there anyway to by-pass this? The .cfg didn't seem to have any control surfaces line.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm specifically looking into using motion vectors to control the position of a texture. For a better idea of what I mean. See this video, especially at 1:08
[URL]
I'm sure some people will call this the "Paperman" effect.
I see a lot of information out there on how to use motion vectors to do motion blur, but not much else. I'm sure they are capabable of soo much more! All that movement information from 3D in a 2D environment sounds great!
I have motion vector channels correctly exported from Maya and I'm wording which CFX combination I would use to composite a texture in a way that it was controlled by the movement information of the motion vector channel.
I know these 4 CFX can read motion vectors.
Motion Blur Node
Timewarp Node
Pixel Spread
Motion Analysis
But so far, no luck in achieving the desired effect.
How can i make something like in the screenshot , i want to create an intersecton of 2 surfaces. In smoke, the z-order rule : the surface have to be completely behind or in front of other object (not partial). is it possible ? I tried couple of sorting combination but never got good result.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to taper an image/surface in action?
To explain: for my project I am taking hi res stock photography, separating out the mid, fore and backgrounds saving as individual layers then bringing into action.
With my current image there is a sea and sky. To make the illusion of 3d scenes I am angling the surfaces down there natural line of perpective to add depth so that when I slowly track the camera from right to left there appears to be depth and parallax.
For this example I am tilting the sea from being perpendicular to the camera to being tilted right back. When I do this the top of the picture which is now further away from the camera eye appears smaller. To compensate for this I would like to 'taper' the object. I know I can set the surface to being bicubic but then I have to work with bezier handles as moving the vertices bends it all around.
Is there either a way to make the handles have no beziers or is there a simple taper tool I can use?
I know that the AJA Kona 3 card has 2 outputs. Can Smoke send one eye to one channel and the other eye to the other of the Kona 3 card? Dual Stream output is what I am really getting at.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there any way that Smoke can see/output sub-blacks and super whites? Can't find any way of seeing them on my scope, Smoke just clamps everything. It won't even see anything below zero in order for me to make a correction on it, everything seems to be clamped on import. I'm using ProRes HQ footage.

1. If I have a layered Photoshop file or png with an alpha channel (a still frame lower third), I see that I can import it as a multi layered clip, but what is the best way to have it in the sequence to show up properly?
2. If I have a QuickTime in animation format or Pro Res4444 format with an embedded alpha, how can I import that file to show and cut it on a top layer to animate above my video?
Does Smoke have selection functionality similar to that of Combustion? As an example, you might want to selectively blur part of an image. In Combustion, you would draw a selection and then apply an operator above the selection to achieve this. I don't see a similar selection tool function in Smoke, but I imagine you could achieve the same effect by duplicating a layer and using a Gmask via the Wipe timeline FX.does Smoke not have a selection tool similar to Combustion?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI started using AuoCAD Civil 3D 2013 on my windows 8. It is crashing a few minutes after opened. When I run it in the mode "Civil 3d as Autocad" everything works ok, but I can only visualise and plot the drawing and move the labels.
First, I thought that I had a problem with my PC so I tried googling this issue, updating my version to SP1 but nothing got fixed. Throught my research on the web It seems that mostly of Windows 8 users are facing problems using Autodesk products on their computers especially whem my co-worker was facing such a similar issue on running both of AutoCAD 2012 and Revit 2013 on his windows 8 and I can not describe how much did we got annoyed for such problem and the circumstances for not able to complete our work tasks using Autodesk products.
The point is how Autodesk is going to give a final solution to Windows 8 incomptability issues. Will be there anything further or it is just Windows 8 users are forced to leave their operating system and back for older one without any incomptaibilty issues like Windows 7?
I am trying to make support ribs on a curved plastic surface to make the construction stiffer for a snow puncher.
(Just like on the attached picture, "pic 1".)
But I am having trouble doing this over the curved surface towards the top end of the rib.
As is now I sketch the shape of the rib in both ends and loft it over a sketch (see attached picture, "pic 2"), and then revolve to get the ends.
But this gives problems, result is not good and it's very time consuming.
If this was on a flat surface it would be easier, but now I get a lip along the loft and along the revolve on the top end of the rib.
I'm using Inventor Professional 2013 Student Version.
Whats the dealing with importing TWs to Smoke? I have a show that's 70% keyframed with timewarps and need a way other then baking the effect to bring it into Smoke. It's comming from FCP7 and we have Automatic Duck but neither the XMLs or AAF bring anything other then the first speed of the clip. Any way to retain the keyframes?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm contemplating purchasing a Mackie MCU to automate some of the volume edits I have to make using 5 tracks in the Audio Clip Mixer over 80 hours of video. I've tried to contact Adobe support, but they are about as cluless as a bag of hammers. When I asked if the clip mixer works with a control surface (after 4 calls and 4 different agents) I was told no. Which is total BS as there is toggle in the clip mixer called "Toggle Control Surface Clip Mixer Mode". They read from scripts and have no clue what they are talking about. I guess I should not be surprised as its an outsourced call center staffed with drones who have never even used the software, much less in production! Adobe you should be ashamed of your support, it's appauling! (BTW I own an online Magazine in the 3d industry and will be writting an article about your appauling support soon)
Anyway, onto my specific questions:
1) The Mackie MCU has overlay cards for button mappings for many different apps, but PP is not one of them. What functionaliy is mapped to the control surface specially from PP and the clipmixer?
2) Is there a way to group channels so that keyframes can be written to multiple clips at the same time by using one fader?
3) In the clip mixer there is a keyframe toggle, does such a toggle translate to the control surface?
4) Sometimes I want to manually keyframe, rather thanan make adjustments while the playhead is moving, so I will simply click the fader slider to write a keyframe, manually move the playhead and then adjust the fader to write the subsequent keyframes. As faders on a control surface can not be pushed like a button, is there a way to generate a keyframe from the control surface?
5) Are there any known limitations using the control surface vs the software for both the clip and track mixers?
I have made a design on autodesk inventor along with gear and motors which give input to the mechanism. (Stewart Platform)
I am able to test the design by giving a random rotary input to a motor component which features availabe on Inventor.
However, I want to control that input somehow. I just want to enter the final coordinates the design needs to reach and the motors should be actuated automatically so as to reach those coordinates.
I have a MATLAB code for the purpose but am unable to understand how to connect it to Autodesk Inventor.
how to control the surface pattern line weights independently?

I have RED footage which I exported as EXR. When I import them back in, they look exactly like the RED footage. But when I import the EXR in Fusion, export it back out, and then import that EXR into Smoke, it looks brighter, although I didn't change anything in Fusion. (when I compare the EXR from Smoke and the EXR from fusion in my finder on my desktop, they look exactly the same). So what is Smoke doing with the "foreign" exr on import?I was also playing with the LUT settings. I get a result which is close, but I need to be exact.
