AutoCad :: Xrefed Layers Turned Off But Plotting?

Jul 2, 2012

Architect sent us a floor plan. I turned off layers we don't need, such as dimensions. Print preview doesn't show those layers. When the plan plots, though, the dimensions plot too.

Architect's drawing was originally done in Revit.

AutoCAD LT :: Use Unisolate Icon / Many Layers Are Turned OFF

Jun 4, 2012

When I use the layer isolate to isolate layers and then use the unisolate icon many layers are turned OFF which were not turned off before before using the isolate function. I have to go into layer manager, select all and turn them back on. Is this a Autocad glitch or am I doing something wrong. I am in an office with multi-users and they all seem to have this problem at times?

AutoCAD 2013 :: Layers Turned Off Randomly

Feb 13, 2013

I've had this issue with layers turning off randomly in the previous years; it has been fixed at some point when a service pack was installed. It is back now in Autocad 2013 and SP1 does not work.

Usually it is happening after the unisolate command. I assume that it is related with the unisolate function that does not work for all layers.

AutoCad :: Layers Not Plotting

Aug 3, 2011

We've got a file that's only plotting some layers and not others. All layers are on, thawed, and set to plot, so I don't have a clue why they aren't showing up. There's a plan that's x-reffed into model space and then showing through a viewport in paper space, and a title block x-reffed into paper space. Some layers in the plan and all layers in the title block are not plotting.

We're using AutoCAD Architecture 2008.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Layers Turned Off Plot Unless They Are Frozen?

Sep 13, 2013

I have a user which we just installed Autocad Civil 3D 2014 on his computer that is running on a Windows 7 64-bit OS.  However, he has had the same problem with Civil 3D 2011, 2012, and 2013 ever since we took him to 2011 in September 2011.  So, it is not something new.  It may have been around before then but my companies common practice back then was to freeze layers with a script file before plotting.  While attending a class back in 2010 or 2011, he and his group were told to “do not use FREEZE on layers in Civil 3D” since things frozen did not get updated like they would if they were just turned off.  So, they have been using the “ON/OFF” commands on all Civil 3D files since then.

Here is the problem:

A drawing, typical of this and other jobs he does, has a title block which is an xref in paper space and the site plan xref in model space.  He can turn "OFF" certain layers from the site plan as viewed from paper space to remove clutter and then go to make a plot.  After getting it set up to print and going to the preview the layers he has turned off appear in the preview and if he goes ahead and makes the plot or PDF those layers that were turned off will plot out.

The work-a-round they have been using ever since has been to go back into the file(s) and “FREEZE” the layers that were turned off, make the plots and then go back and “THAW” the layers before ending the drawing.

Things we have tried:

Set Visretain=1
Used the “Publish” command.
Set Layerevalctl=0 or 1

Is there a way to use ON/OFF instead and have the layers NOT plot out?  OR, is this something that AutoCAD will not do regardless?  Has it always been that way and we have been unaware of it through the past four releases?

AutoCad :: Plotting Edit Plot Style In Layers?

Aug 1, 2011

I'm trying to revise my template that I use as a base for all drawings. I would like to have layer colors in models space, and alter the plot style for the individual layers. For example, My ctb is grayscale, and generally the prints work fine. However, I'd like to set individual layers to display as the layer color yet print black. Othere I'd like to display in colour but print in the grays of the grayscale. However, in the layer manager the plot style is grayed out and I can't change it.

AutoCad 2D :: Screening Xrefed-in Drawing?

Apr 18, 2013

I want to bring a base drawing (drawing A) into another drawing (drawing B), but have it screened (say, at 35%) so that the information overlaid onto it in drawing B (unscreened) is brighter, and darker, so that it pops out, and that drawing A appears as just a background. I want the lineweights of drawing A (assigned in the CTB file) to remain thick and thin, but just to plot with a screened value. How can that happen? So far, I have just assigned xrefed-in layers a thin lineweight, which might work, but would prefer that the xrefed-in layers retain their thickness but appear shaded. I feel like I did this years ago, but how to accomplish this.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Xrefed Cross Sections

Feb 29, 2012

I have created a drawing called xsec. I xrefed the corridor drawing into it and data shortcut the alignments in as well. I created sample lines and cut my cross sections in the drawing. Everything at this point looks fine.

The problem happens when I create a new drawing and xref the xsec into it. In this new drawing only the right side of my cross sections is showing up. I want to use this drawing for my sheet set rather than have a bunch of tabs in the xsec drawing.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Contours Partially Vanish When Xrefed

Aug 3, 2012

I can stumble a bit, and have reasonably competent in the ACAD side of it.  but here's my issue: existing grade was created in a separate office (by a non-c3d guru) and the surface drawing was shipped up to the remote office. There's nothing in the drawing except the surface (created from GIS contours) and the contour labels. Layers for major and minor and labels are all on, not frozen, visible, and none are set to non-plot. (C-TOPO-MAJR, C-TOPO-MINR, C-TINN, C-TOPO-TEXT)

This file is XREFed into modelspace in a sheet file that has a half-dozen tabs, two to three vports per tab. In some of the viewports, not all by any means, either none of the contour lines show up, or only some of them do. There are no per-viewport over-rides, and all layers are on, thawed, and plottable. In the area where the contour lines fail to show up, the contour labels do.

AutoCad :: XRefed Wall Objects Materials Changing Colour

May 19, 2011

The problem:At our office we have created a large amount of custom 3d walls (mainly by modifying existing ones) and in the walls we have overriden the material colour in plan view from the default 11 (peachy/corally colour) to green/red etc. Now when we xref the drawing with the walls in it some drawings retain those colours while others show the walls with the default colour 11. Since it is the exact same drawing on our server being xrefed I assume its an option somewhere that I am missing.

I am running Cad Architecture 2011.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: XREFed COGO Point Markers Pick Up Color Of Current Layer?

Aug 7, 2012

We have survey files that we xref into our design files. In the survey files themselves, the points don't change color. When we xref them in, the point markers (only the circular node on the actual point, not the line coming off of it) take on the color of whatever the current layer is in the drawing, only fixable by changing the current letter and regenerating.

AutoCad :: Plotting To PDF Versus Plotting To Printer?

Feb 26, 2013

I'm attempting to plot a drawing with a 3d shape and a title block around it. I would like for the occluded lines to not be drawn therefore I'm using the hidden visual style and set shade plot to hidden as well.

My problem arises from the quality of the plot to PDF versus the quality coming out of a printer. It is just a 8.5x11 page. The pdf comes out with horrible anti-aliasing and jagged lines, whereas the print is entirely smooth. Is there something simple I'm missing? It would be even better to find a way to make the plot to PDF come out in vector format! I know it is possible to show the layers and have them vectorized in a PDF... How is this done?
