AutoCad :: Drawing Coordinates Is Appearing In Scientific Notation And Display All 9 Digits
Aug 27, 2011
1. i received a DWG that has a TIFF image referenced. This 30MB TIFF came in a separate folder (eTransmit) and the path is correct, but i cannot seem to grab the image in model space. the layer that has the xref is not frozen, and i can see the xref in the properties box and unload/load/detach, however i am unable to select or grab it. Was this done intentionally by the author to keep the image intact or is this property of transmitting?
2. The drawing coordinates is appearing in scientific notation and i need them to display all 9 digits. How do i change this?

Using a keynote database on some modernization plans.
The database has keynotes listed as: (1.1,1.5...2.3,2.5...9.13,9.14 etc.)
All other keynotes are fine. When selecting one particular keynote 9.14-Carpet Tile Walk Off Mat (CPT-2)
...instead of 9.14 displaying on the plan like all the other keynotes, this displays: 09 68 00.C1
(I've made sure that only the key is selected to display and not the key and note option from the annotation options list. So that can't be the problem.)

I can create labels to display stationing in a profile, but is there a way to display the coordinates in the profile instead? When I need to move my pipes I am using the station I get from the profile label and then use grip move. If I could get the N, E, I could just type it in on the Vista table.

NOTE: This is in AutoCAD 2002.
I'm working on one of our standard layouts for a client. Our typical drawing setup is the base drawing file, surrounded by our Xref'ed border. On said border Xref, we have all the information that does not change between drawings (Revision history, address of job site, etc). The only things that change - and, thus, are not on the xref - are the title of each individual sheet and their number; in the case of these objects, they are located on the drawing file itself in the appropriate position. They are, however, the same font as the text in the Xref - "Standard". Or, at least, they're supposed to be.
The text in the base drawing file seems to be a different version of the text from the Xref - a much blockier, sharper-edged version than the Xref text. My first response was "Okay - I'll just copy/paste the text from the border into my base drawing file, and force the existing text to match the properties of the imported text."
This, however, did not work. The imported text automatically assumed the same form as the existing text. Here's a screenshot from the base drawing, illustrating this (The "Mechanical Plan" also exists on the base drawing, and not the Xref):
I copied the existing text from the base drawing (In this case, the "Mechanical Plan") and pasted it directly into the Xref itself, to see what would happen. Apparently, it wants to stay blocky:
In the latter example, I even tried to force the blocky text to assume the properties of the smooth text via MA (Match properties). I specifically need to make the text in the base drawing conform to the style that the text is assuming in the Xref - which is to say "Smooth."

I'd like to know the coordinates relative to the last entry when creating lines (splines). When creating splines using the line tool, it would be useful to know the coordinates of my current cursor position relative to the last point in an easy way, so I can draw precisely a long line without having to memorize the coordinates of the last point.
Initially, I thought the 'Keyboard Entry" rollout would show the values that reflect what I'm doing visually, just like the rectangle tool for example, or pretty much any other tool, I don't know why the 'line' tool is different but anyways.

I'm having a problem with sketches not appearing on drawings in Inventor 2012. This is for a product line made using iparts and iassemblies, and affects approximately 150 drawings.
These sketches were made in Inventor R11, and are attached to part features in the drawing view. When opening these drawings in 2012, the dimensions that were attached to the sketch are still visible, (albeit in the wrong places and on the wrong features), but the sketch itself is not. The sketch still exists as an item under the view, but the actual contents of the sketch (lines and hatching) are gone.
The assembly consists of three identical cylindrical parts with mitred ends welded together in two operations to form a T-shaped part. I have a view representation for each operation. The drawing has each view on one page.
The first step requires welding the two parts together to form an "L" shape, and then cutting off a portion of the corner of the "L" to facilitiate joining the third part in the second operation. In my assembly, I mated the two cylindrical parts together, then created a sketch and using geometry projected from the parts, defined the area of material removal at the corner and extruded the feature. Then, I mated the third part.
However, since I cannot turn off the extrusion when defining a view representation, I needed to redraw the corner I removed so it reflected reality when showing this first phase on the drawing,. I accomplished this using a sketch on the view in the .idw, again using geometry projected from the part. This worked out excellently in Inventor R11. Not only was I able to show the missing part, but because this was an iassembly made from iparts, I could use the same drawing for differnet sizes by "saving as..." and then selecting a diffenent Assembly State on the Model State tab of the Drawing View Dialog Box. The views would update, and so would my sketch, since it was defined by the geometry of the part.
So we continued on this way, and now that we've moved to 2012, none of these sketches appear anymore. We're faced with having to redo this work on every drawing that we've created for this part -- about 150 or so.

I have to tabulate the X and Y co-ordinates along a polyline at 1 metre intervals. I have divided the polyline into segments of one metre and have tried to use a command called data extraction. So I use this command and individually click on each point. The end result gives me the X and Y coordinates in the order I have picked them however when I put it into a table on the drawing it messes up the order?

I have a drawing at AutoCad and i want to change its coordinate like that
X'= X
Y'= -Z
Z'= Y
I know how to do it with the points (export their coordinates in a text and then transform the text and then import again at an Autocad) . But thus i loose all the line, arcs, etc .

My problem is that I require to extract coordinates from specific points on the drawing and set them out on the ground at the real location.
On the drawing there are several base station locations with known coordinates. I have tried coordinating the drawing using Ctrl a, move, then type in the known coordinates of one of the base station location but nothing happens. I have also set the drawing to world with no change.
The coordinates in the bottom left corner are shown but are around 500m out.

I'm trying to make a standard block which will automatically read the co-ordinates! i have started making it trying to use fields, but when inserting the block into the drawing it stays at x=0, y=0, which is the point in the block. how do i get it to read the point in the drawing, and also how would i always get it to read the world ucs.
i have attached the block i've started, haven't added any dynamics yet as i'm just testing it.

I have some issues with the notation for physical properties in the Inventor 2013 material editor.
Instead of displaying the obvious first choice metric SI notation kg/m^3 or something similar it display a self made? and awkward N*s^2/mm^4. I don't want this notation. How can I change to something more user friendly? It can be a bit hard to distinguish if a material have 0.00000000001 N*s^2/mm^4 or 0.0000000001 N*s^2/mm^4.
The document properties "units" folder have mm, seconds, degree and kilogram as default.

I am using the ALIGN command to overlay two groups of blocks, I'm then using some VBA code to export the coordinates of the blocks to an excel sheet to make comparisons.
The issue I'm having is when I use the ALIGN command the coordinates exported are different to those in the drawing (but only for those moved using the ALIGN command).
I don't get this issue when I use the move, rotate and mirror commands, only ALIGN. What may be causing this?

I am trying to annotate a drawing so when i click on a point the X,Y,Z coordinates appear as text, but i don't want a cross to appear where i have clicked the point ( if that makes sense)
I would like for them to appear like this:
x = ........
y = .......
The coordinates would have to show to 3 decimal places.
Also when i have clicked a point is there anyway to get the coords into a excel sheet?

I just started my CAD classes. I have been doing basic 2d drawing and just learning the commands etc.
My question concerns polar coordinates. I know how they work, but are you expected to be able to get polar coordinates off lets say a hard copy drawing with no annotations.
My homework so far has always had the length of the lines depicted on the drawing but not the angles. So if I was required to replicate a drawing that had no annotation is there any way other than guessing or whipping out my protractor.
This is just a nagging thought as I strive to understand CAD.
