I have a block which contains dimensions and am wondering if it's possible for the dimensions to be hidden if the block is not selected? They are on a separate layer so I can hide them in the layer manager but it would be slick for them to autohide unless I select the block.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there way that within a drawing view, hidden lines can be shown for only some of the parts of an assembly, rather than just being a global toggle setting for the whole view? I know that it is possible to hide individual lines, but It would be good to be able to do this on a part basis, as some drawings can have thousands of hidden lines that would need to be selected and turned off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedProblems I'm having with hidden lines being visible in certain viewports and not others.I've dimensioned my drawings in model space, which I prefer, and put the dimensions on a separate layer. However, including that layer in the viewport causes the hidden lines to be visible when plotted. If I turn that layer off, everything works great.
I have dimensions for the same object in plan view that I'm showing in a different viewport that works just great, but in the front elevation viewport it gets all screwy.
I can dimension in paper space just fine.I prefer to dimension in model space whenever possible.
I am having difficulty with the display of my point numbers and description when plotting. I am doing piping desing and utilizing Civil 3D points for the coardinates and elevations to display in a point table. For my viewport, in the properties dialogue box, under the Shade Plot option, I have selected Legacy Hidden due to needing my pipes to display properly only to have my points not display properly. If I opt for Legacy Wireframe or As Displayed, my points display correctly but my pipes do not. Any clue as to how I can have both display properly?

I have a model which was originally a SAT file, it was just an extruded profile in the CAD package. When originally imported the part was fine, was selectable etc, but now for some reason this part is non-selectable, won't disappear when you do "hide all" etc but still renders and will still accept material types applied to it ?

I'm working with floor plans from another company, the drawing contains xref for the floor plans and other blocks. I need to label some of our equipment. I'm simply using a DTEXT label inside a rectangle as a block with the text as an atribute.
I'd like to place the label on the floor plan and have it hide anything underneath. I do this with 3D blocks for other work, but I'm looking for a quick and dirty solution.
I have a series of drawings and am unable to make some block text for risers not appear hidden.If I paste the block into another drawing I get the text to appear but then when I try to bring back into this drawing it becomes hidden.

When I try to edit a particular Xref in a drawing, I get a message saying:-
Selected Xref Block is NOT editable.
Is there a setting somewhere that controls this?
If it is possible to set a block's dimensions to read a table's cell value. Say a rectangle has dimensions x wide by y tall and a table has the x and y values given in cells a1 and b1 linked from an excel spreadsheet.
I would like to link it like this because i have an excel file that will update and then output to AutoCAD. Is this possible and if so how? I have figured out how to link the excel table into AutoCAD. I am using AutoCAD 2012.
I am trying to put something together that will allow a user to select objects in AutoCAD and then place a block at all the selected points.

I have a dynamic steel section block with a btable to choose which size member you want. What I want to know is there any way I can add a field to the block that shows the selected size so that I don't need to add a separate call up. The field would be linked to the block so if I was to change the size of the member, the field would update and no risk of someone not updating the call up by mistake.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn 2008, never had this issue.Just dumb, circles, and lines in a view port, that have hidden or center linetyoes assigned to them. When we go to plot using legacy hidden (this new for 2012?) the plot comes out with continuous lines. These are not solids. Just ordinary line entities.Now, when I change the shadeplot to "hidden" the linetype is shown correctly, but now my entities are coloured, when I just want my drawing to be black and white (going to PDF), even though all of the colours in the pen style are set to "Black".
Has this changed? Is there a new variable introduced?
I'm looking for a solution to place the overall model dimensions in the title block.
We have a box (Promted entry) in our company title block were we manually typ our overall dimension of a part (or in some cases assembly).
For our planning engineer this is easy because he can easy see the dimensions of the "base material" or the size of a container / box in case of an assembly.
The risk that sometimes people forget to change these dimension when the model is changes.
Now I'm looking for a solution (e.g. VBA / iLogic) to place the overall dimensions Automatically in the title block.
The overall dimensions are available in the "BIM Exchange" menu > Check Design. Maybe these dimensions can be used.
We're using Inventor 2014.
I'm drawing objects (walls, platforms, etc.) in 3d made up primarily of extruded polygons. I want to be able to plot these objects in a way that hides all of the lines which are obscured by other objects. Currently I have my viewports set up with a 2D Wireframe visual style and a Hidden shade plot. This isn't working for me. I'm still getting all of the lines in the drawing visible no matter what.
Here's the strange thing: It seems to work perfectly fine in plan view, but not in front view. Also, it's worked fine in the past. It seems that the problem has gotten progressively worse over the past year or so.
I'm using AutoCAD 2008.
I found a lisp for counting of selected block in a table drawing, but I can not remove the bottom line of this lisp that displays "total" blocks. How to remove this line from "total" that is created in the last row of the table that lisp.

I am trying to write a program to align a block with two selected destination points.
- first the user is prompted to select a lwpolyline of a block entity
- then he is prompted to pick two destination points
I face problem with the sub-routine SegmentPts. It is supposed to return the coordinates of two vertexes on both sides of the picked point on a lwpolyline using entsel. But here in my program, when i am picking a point using entsel on a lwpolyline inside a block entity, it is not returning the two vertexes on both sides of the picked point. In stead, it returns some other points of the selected LWPOLYLINE. Why it is doing so? Where is the problem in my program?
It works fine with my other programs where i pick on a LWPOLYLINE entity. In this particular case, the LWPOLYLINE is inside a Block entity and the program is not returning correct points.

I am not sure how to (a) erase the selected north block, then (b) make the insert north block in its place bit work.
I currently insert certain dynamic block into drawings with a short function that first inserts the specified dynamic block and then immediately changes the visibility state to one specified as an argument to the function.
I'm wondering if it is possible / better / faster to somehow insert the dynamic block with the decided visibility state simultaneously. I've been amazed by many capabilities of VL so I wouldn't at be surprised if this can be done. (the dynamic blocks I'm inserting could have many multiples in the drawing but I need this method to only affect the one being inserted at the time the function is called. I currently use entlast to decide which one is being inserted.)
I've completed my drawing (Autocad architectural 2012) and set-up my multiple view-ports (at 1:50 and 1:5 scale) on my title-block.
I'm now going to add my text and dimensions im model space....and that's when the problems start!
I've created text and dimensions in annotative style.
The issue I have is when I change annotation scale from 1:50 to 1:5 my text and dimensions in model space automatically changes (as can be seen on attachment) to a huge scale but is perfect in layout view for differing scales.
For a program i am working for i have to extract the base point of a dynamic block.
This can be done perfectly by this function:

But i want the entity selected based on a previous slected point. So for example when i selected pt1 (which is a point at the border of the dynamic block) i want to be able to extract the base point on the block whit this point.
I was adding a lot of aligned dimensions to a drawing and some where along the way they changed from aligned dimensions to rotated dimensions, even in the same string of dimensions.

I created holes in the model as a 1/4" tapped hole
Yet when I show the dimensions in the drawing they show the minor dimension.
How do I get the 1/4" to show? I have selected the feature and still get these results.

Also be sure to pick the 'aligned dimension' method and not the 'linear dimension'. I hope that works in Revit as it does in AutoCAD.

When I have a text layer selected with the type tool active, the font size reads correctly (say, 40px). When I actually select the text with the type tool, the font size gives a strange number (say, 38.74px).

This is on OSX 10.8.3, Photoshop CS6.
On LR 4 and now 5, the shades of grey used to distinguish the selected vs, not selected images in the filmstrip at the bottom of the workspace are too close together making it difficult to see what has been selected. Is there someway to control the color and/or the shade of grey used for each to make it easier to tell at a glance which image(s) is currently selected?
