AutoCad :: Create Explanation Of 3D Model (x Y And Z Coordinate) In 2D Terms
Apr 23, 2013
I am facing a problem here: I need to create an explanation of a 3D model (means there is x, y, and z coordinate) in 2D terms.
The base shape is something like this: [URL] ........
What I want to show is the part where the lines are joint. There is a lot of angle involved, the standard polygon angle and the dihedral angle.
What I want to show is the dihedral angle, around the joint but no lines are actually parallel to any of the axis. Therefore, how to explain properly this part to layman (contractor, client, etc).
I tried researching using the keyword "3D CAD drawing", and "3D Detail Drawing" but nothing comes to fruition.
I am trying to create a new coordinate category using the "Coordinate System Category Manager". However, I get this message "Cannot add category to dictionary". I just want to put a couple of defined coordinate systems in a category so they'll be much easier to find.

A - Autodesk will fix them in a timely fashion during this release - Not holding my breath here
B - Others won't spend hours trying to figure it out.
In my case, I need to create multiple unique coordinate systems called Low Distortion Projections (Google it for explanation.)
Here are the problems identified so far with the 2012 version of the Coordinate Library
Coordinate System Categories
1 - The regional 'containers' that hold coordinate systems definitions. You cannot create an empty container. It requires at least 1 coordinate system definition to be created. When creating a container put an arbitrary coordinate system definition in. This assists with item 2b.
Coordinate System Definitions
2a - Getting started - There is no provision to just select an existing datum or ellipsoid. One must 'create' a new definition that may vary in name only. The vast majority of us using their products will not actually create new ellipsoids or datums just utilizing them as the basis for other projections.
2b - Creating definition - Continuing the definition process the definition needs to be placed in a coordinate system category. Due to the problems identified in item 1 this creates a circular error. The workaround being item 1 rather than creating multiple definitions in the wrong container then going back to fix them.
2c - Scale Reduction - This should be renamed to Scale Factor to fit with the rest of the known world as the value can be greater or less than unity (1.000000) In my case the values all happen to be something greater than 1. While on this subject, the autodesk programmers set this to do something totally unexpected. No matter what you set the value to, if you save and reedit the projection value will be displayed as '1'
2d - Missing Projection definition form data - I went through the projection definitions and found the following projection types were missing their fields in the form:
Oblique Mercator

When hovering over icons, such as the “Constrain” function, the helper graphic appears over top of my product tree. After the graphic is finished playing it doesn’t go away. I can’t select anything in my tree structure that is behind the graphic and when I try to select the “I” (New, Save, Etc), I can’t select anything from that menu dropdown which is under the icon either.
I’m running Windows 8.1, and I’m using a trial version of Autodesk Inventor Pro 2014.
I'm just starting to learn how to use the 3D environment in AutoCAD (2014 version). I'm following some tutorials but I'm a bit confused regarding direct input values when using the polyline command.
I've drawn a 50mm square, starting at coordinate 130,130,0 (lower left corner) using the polyline command (NOT using the Close command to complete the square). The next step then states draw a second polyline using the following input @7<45,55 to locate the first corner, then draw a 40mm square. It doesn't quite put the inner square where I'd have expected it so I wanted to tweek the command to correct any error but I haven't used the @ symbol or < sign before. What the input description means? From testing it appears to base the starting point of the inner square in relation to the outer square.
I am having a problem when attempting to measure the volume of a solid in Autocad Civil 3d 2013. It returns an error: "One or more diagonal terms are not positive." I have run a check from solidedit and it returns as a valid solid.
I have PS 8 (in spanish) and although I live in Mexico, most tutorials on the web, are in english. I would like to know where I can get a translation for some of the menu terms for translation from english to spanish. The one Im trying to figure out now, is one of the options for a high pass filter is "hard light" not sure whats the corresponding name on my PS in spanish.
I've been making great progress in learning and using videostudio... but I still can not figure out what the orange tabs are that are called "pause duration". during a clip review I can move them and nothing appears to happen... what would I use them for?
I don't seem to have those options (show/hide Parent) when right clicking on folders in the tree. The way I have been organizing in LR4 is by creating a new top level folder and dragging the individual folders into that new folder (within LR).
I will be moving to a new computer soon and want to make sure the move goes well...
I'm about to buy a new inkjet printer. I currently have an epson R1900 which I have liked, but I have been abusing this printer for years and it just stops working I'm thinking about the epson 3880 or R2000? but I wonder what some of you might recommend.
I'm a graphic and web designer. Would 3880 have more efficient way to print - in terms of ink usage?
So i can create a photo strip in Lightroom and i have (just adding 2x2.5" cells and dragging pictures over) but after trying to add an additional picture it changes all the cells to the new picture. After researching it seems that Lightroom wont let you add/print different pictures on the same sheet. So i have two questions:
1. Can you not add mutiple pictures in terms of a photo strip and print out in Lightroom 4?
2. What adobe software (or even apple aperture) can you create a custome photo strip and add text for the event at the bottom and print? Preferrably something that is simple for like when my Canon 7D takes pictures and you can drag and drop into the cells, determine # of prints and print, on the spot. I am starting a photo booth company where person #2 will manually move pics on my Macbook Pro (if need be) to the photo strip template and determine # of prints (not automated).
I am trying to create a 3d model of a stockpile, i have the are at the bottom of the pile, and I have the height and area at the top, but there is a road going up to the top of the stockpile. how can I cut that road into my model? It twists around to the top its not a straight line.
What I'm trying to accomplish is a way to create a kit (assembly of loose parts) that will be used in more than one product model. Each top level assembly (product model) will require the parts to be constrained in different locations but all of the components in the kit will remain the same.
Is the iAssembly tool the right tool to use for this?
I've recently been given a *.dwg file that seems to contain a 3D model composed of blocks. I'm a long-time SolidWorks user, and in my parlance, what I've got is an assembly composed of individual parts.
I need to create a 2D version of each 3D part. Currently, my process isCut & paste 3D component into new document.
Select all and perform 'flatten,' removing hidden lines. Select all and explode.
Manually remove a zillion duplicate and unnecessary line segments. Manually fix radiused / filleted corners, which have become a bunch of little straight line segments. Draw a polyline around the whole part. Run 'boundary' to create a new polyline approximating the original shape.
Clearly, this is not very efficient - nor does it produce an exact 2D duplicate of the face of the 3D part; what I get is a close approximation. I don't use AutoCAD to do 3D work, but I assume that, much like SolidWorks, a 2D sketch is created first and then extruded into the 3D objects.
This, in turn, leads me to believe that there ought to be a way to extract that 2D sketch intact for use elsewhere. How should I go about doing this?
i want to create a layout that just surrounds a given model windows, with a given scale. that is, not set to a specific paper size or with title blocks etc. Is there a way?
the easiest way to create a vector image of a model in inventor? I also have other Autodesk tools at my disposai (Product Design Suite).
We have creating a catalogue of company parts, and they require nice clean crisp images for the brochure. They only seem to be able to create raster images.
I could not get the code to work for me, and I am not a programmer or pretend to be. I need to take a model and create a dwg with ilogic. It only needs to be one flat pattern view and one isometric view.
I also need it to have center marks for all the holes and I need to add certain dimensions.
Any program that can accept point clouds (which will be millions of points) from a 3D laser? Then we would like to create a solid model of the structures and piping.
Is it possible to use an Autodesk Inventor .iam (assembly) to generate a file containing only the visible/exterior surfaces of that .iam?
My employer has a requirement that, in certain situations, only data without internal features/details can be supplied to customers. In this case, we only want the customer to be able to view the assembly & not see the internal features of individual parts.
We just installed AutoCAD 2013 migrating from AutoCAD 2010 so missed a few releases."Create View" seems like a great utility for detailing, but I was unable to get it to work. Is it something as obvious as only works with 3D models, or what?! Does special view window [parent view] have to be set up intially?
