AutoCad :: When Create Block In Drawing Where Is It Saved?
Sep 21, 2011When I create a block in a drawing, where is it saved?
View 1 RepliesWhen I create a block in a drawing, where is it saved?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to customise my drawing templates to keep them up to date and also include accountability.I seem to be having trouble in including the name of the person who has last saved the model, and the date the model was last saved.
Manually including this information isn't ideal as people will forget, and it makes it harder to trace revisions.I can't see anywhere on the iProperties where the 'Last saved by' feature is available, but I thought maybe the information could be pulled from the username from the application options?
The last saved date should be easy, as there is a modified date in the model's iproperties; however, I cannot pull this information.I have used other cad packages in the past and this was never an issue. With all the customisation of Inventor, I thought this would be relatively straight forward.
I have created a bock in ACAD 2011 LT. I then save the block using the command line or ribbon button then immediately try to close the block editor without moving or changing anything. A dialog appears saying the changes have not been saved to the block and would I like to save? If I say no don't save my changes and reopen the block the changes have in fact been saved.
My question is there a way to get around this dialog box -Suppress it like FILEDIA = 0 for block editor or an option so it doesn't ask me to save.
The goal is to do this all from the command line w/ out dialog boxes.
I am trying to find a way to create an index drawing without having to input much information in.
I would like to export the attributes from each drawing file in my (project folder) from the title-blocks (drawing numbers and descriptions) into excel and then be able to just data link that into my Index table in AutoCAD. I know i could put the info in excel and import it into my table in CAD but i am looking for something more Automatic, so that every time i need to create an index it will automatically extract the info from the drawing files title-blocks.
I have searched high and low and still could not find a tutorial to really explain how to create a drawing title with attributes (Detail Number, Sheet Number, Detail Title, Detail Scale). All I find are on creating dynamic block, which I could achieve, but I need one for a block that has (or will have) attributes.
I was able to find a tutorial on attributed door numbers, but it does not work for drawing titles that has attributes. GOAL: I would like to have all my seven drawing titles in one file and to be able to stretch the leg of any selected title to a desired length.
take a look at this piece of my LISP-routine.
(command "_.block" pause pause ss "")
where:
ss - is a Selection set of some entities
In the rest of code, I don't change the values of initdia, or cmdecho, or whatever else
I haven't sill understood them that well. The problem is the following:
When My routine executes this line, I am promted for:
1. block name - that's OK
2. insertion point - that's OK
3. then the block-command receives correctly the entities from ss-selection set - that's OK
4. then all the object dissapear! **Problem here**
The block is created... I can insert it in the drawing from the block-data base...
But is there a way to let this block stay in the drawing ? without disappearing?
I removed color info and reset to greyscale, yet I still get a pink hue when I save as a pdf.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a client that cannot save his drawing and have be in a "Saved" state. When doing an e-transmit (for example) it tells him that the drawing hasn't been saved and if he wants to save the file. He clicks YES and then it tells him the drawing hasn't been saved and asks him if he wants to save it.
It seems to be isolated to this file. If he works in a different file, it works just fine. Also, I had him send me the files (via e-transmit) and I was not able to replicate the problem so, it seems to have something to do with this particular file on his system.
My question then is, can something be embedded into the file that will cause something to happen directly after a save (like a reactor)?
He's using Civil 3D 2012 but I don't think it's anything directly related to Civil 3D.
I've created a drawing and I want to contiune on it. It opens normally but when I try to save it it says: "One or more objects in this drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created."
I wanted to save it in ACAD 2010 format. I also tried to save it in ACAD 2004 did not work.
I get the same error message even if I open the file do nothing else just click on the Save icon.
My drawing- block is a little bit complicated, it contains few actions and parameters and everytime i open block editor to add, or to modify some action I can't see my drawing because actions grips and parameters grips obscure my drawing. I tried to refresh layout but it doesn't work.
please take a look on attached jpg.
Is there a way to create a block with attributtes that automatically complete x, y, z, lat, long for the insertion point of the block?
I am trying to complete text in paperspace that will automatically fill in the lat long of a point in model space without using a table. I have tried field insertion with reference to a cogo point, but it doesn't give options for position on a cogo point. If I pick a block with attributes, it will let me pick any attributes, and x,y position for the block.
Cogo points show all the information I need to propagate in the properties....but how do I get that to translate into the text using fields or some other method?

I have parts that are similar and want to save a copy of the model and it's drawing together as a new part number. This way I don't have create a new drawing every time. I used ProE 2001 before I upgraded to Inventor 2012 and ProE would save them both together.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm in AutoCAD 2013. I've been working on a drawing everyday (was just working on it yesterday), but can't open it now. I just get a blank gray screen when I open if from within AutoCAD. When I open it from my computer drive while AutoCAD is closed, AutoCAD opens and I get "Drawing1.dwg." I've tried the RECOVER command, but I don't get a response. I tried RECOVERALL command which let me choose a file to recover, but it responded saying it could not recover the drawing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedBut changes are visible in drawing preview/thumbnail. Also, random changes are saved. For instance some changes I made yesterday and saved are not showing up while changes I made today are. Essentially I am missing most of my work from today. I did save the drawing as 3 different drawings prior to closing and each drawing now shows something different.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I spent 4 days working on a profile last week. And this morning I opened it up and accidentally erased the alignment, saved and closed the drawing (I must have thought it was in another drawing, and I wasn't paying attention).
Now the profile is gone and I'm wondering if I can open up a drawing that was saved before I did this mix up. I checked my autosave path, but the path doesn't exist. So I don't know where it's be autosaving to.
Everytime I try to open my saved drawing, it just opens autocad 2012 with drawing1. I've been working on this drawing for weeks, and have saved and opened it many times without problem, and was working on it this morning and saved it again. Now, i've come back and it will no longer open. I can open other saved dwg files no problem. I've tried renaming the .bak file as a .dwg but that still won't work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to create a block to insert on our title block that will populate itself with a list of drawings and names?
I know this is possible through the use of LISP and the Sheet Set Manager, but could this be done through a combination of attributes and fields (we want the same functionality in LT).
I made a write block from one drawing so that i could use it in another drawing. Now that i have inserted it into a different drawing i cannot explode it. I did not see the option to allow exploding when i created it.
I tried to create a regular block (not a write block) but then when i opened a new drawing and clicked "insert" "block" it was not in the list of available blocks?
In 2011 every so often I get this error "One or more objects in this drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created." This happens and I just go and click file or regen and sometimes it just saves the file other times it does not.

What I have is a nice production drawing, that has NEVER even been opened in C3D2013. I JUST finished adding labels for some new pipes and structures that are in an Xref. I saved the drawing and closed it to work on a different project while plotting. In SSM, I select the sheets to Publish, the first 4 plot without issue, then I get a CER without a Fatal Error...I can still work on the nbow current drawing...it appears that SSM crashed while loading the aforementioned sheet I had been working on.I close everything down, restart C3D2012, open the same drawing I had just labeled, says it needs to be recovered, so I let it finish loading (I've found that stopping the load will almost always cause C3D to hang indefinitely), close that drawing, then run recover, finds 2 errors, allow to fix, am greeted with the message box "This drawing has been saved by a newer version of C3D. All C3D commands are disabled in this drawing."
Wait a dang minute, SSM crashes and somehow (the save time is still the same as when i manually saved it in 2012) saves it as a C3D2013 file...even though it is still opening as a 2010dwg format file? Opening the file in Notepad even shows it was last saved in 2012.
I there a way to open a drawing saved in 2011 ver,into a 2005 ver.

Windows Server 2008 r2
Data stored on a network share
Network licenses on a separate server
My problem started when we moved all of the users data to a new Windows 2008 r2 server. Searching and file navigation was slow so we turned on Windows Search service. Greatly improved network searches (users do content as well as file name searches).
Then Autocad started having errors when trying to save or create dwf files. The error "One or more objects in the drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created." Users can save the drawing to the local drive without the error.
I just want to know how will I open a drawing file if its saved on an older version and I am using a latest version of autocad.

"The drawing has not been saved yet, please save the drawing before creating data shortcuts" Only I have saved, this still occurs after either a full or quick save.
Shutdown Civil and reopen still gives the same message..The problem seems to be when you are saving to any other version of Autocad than R2010. Save as R2010 and it works.Mike Evans

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have block colour (or image) and text overlaid, fine. But save to Jpeg and the block color around the text becomes speckled. Other than saving as a higher quality what (if anything) can I do to prevent/minimise this?
While asking about text; is there any way to make the boundary of a text box irregular on one or two sides; say a box shape but jagged at one side so that text flows around a "protrusion"?
I've drawn some drawings on gimp and I've tried to upload them to deviant art and some othersites, but it keeps saying that it cannot use this file.Is there anyway to be able to upload it without this happening?
