Our general manager strongly worries about data security after reading this news. [URL] ..... How we can forbid staff from Saving files into external drives, Printing specific files, Printing screen? We are also in finance field and we are not going to pay for penalty charge due to data loss.
I'm using Lightroom 2.6 on a Mac G5. I've got 93.36Gb of photos ( 9,000 RAW files plus their sidecar files) on a 500Gb firewire 400 drive. I'm upgraing to a 1TB firewire 800 external, and my file is (I believe) on my internal hard drive under users somewhere.
I can piggy back the new and old externals, or copy my photos to the internal and then transfer to the new drive when I connect it, but I have no way of connecting both firewire drives to the computer at the same time.
What's the most effective and easiest way to transfer my catalog and photo files from one drive to another and have Lightroom find them and sort everything out?
When I am in Lightroom all I see in the Folder Section is my internal hard drive. I have many images on my external hard drive. How do I get the external hard drives to show up along with the internal hard drive?
I have 6 external hard drives containing NEF / JPG and DNG files plus i have some more recent photos on my laptop hard drive some of the files are the same on several of the drives (backup copies)
what would be the best way to merge all this into a single LR 4 catalog ?
or would it make sense to have a separate catalog for each external drive ?
I only have one drive connected to the computer at one time
I’ve got a question about external drives display in the folder tree. For some reason, when I add a folder on an external drive, I get a new “Volumes” folder, and then the drive appears as a folder under the “Volumes” folder. So, instead of having a quick view of which drives are connected, I get a bunch of “missing images” question marks on the folders when the drives disconnect.I don’t get the extra collapsable bar (Under Macintosh HD) as in your video.
I've got LR4 on my MBP, but all my photos are on a network drive. I'm about to go on a two week trip but I'd like to work on photos for my son's baby book whilst there. The photos are all on a 6TB LaCie which I obviously can't bring with me, but I have a 1TB LaCie Rugged that I can bring along. I have LR set up such that I have all my son's photos organised by weeks and months, so I would like that set up preserved whilst I'm working away from home. So I thought one way was to copy the entire catalog to my 1TB LaCie, but how do I get it to sync with the photos in the network drive when I get back home? What's the best way of doing this? It's quite a big catalog as well, about 400GB of photos and videos. Previously what I did was to copy the entire catalog to a portable drive, but I ended up having multiple copies of the library in my catalog, i.e. the same picture folders on two different drives. I had to delete the portable drive from the catalog cos they were too many differences between the 2 drives and I couldn't keep up which was which.
I have a number of old external drives in "My Folders" lightroom thinks are still active mostly because the computer has assigned a new drive letter to the same drive several times. I would like to delete these from Lightroom and assign a new letter to the current drive I am using, how to remove the old drives?
My external drive(s) aren't showing up in Premiere Pro... and yes, they were working just fine yesterday. The internal drives both show up, but the external drive(s) aren't accessible.
At first I thought that perhaps it was the drive (a new USB 3.0 that worked yesterday)... I tried changing the cable, changing the drive, even changing from a USB 3.0 drive to a FW 800 drive. All show up on my desktop, as well as in other applications (including After Effects, and "other" editing platforms) etc... but none are showing up in Premiere Pro.
FWIW, I tried in both Premiere Pro CC as well as Premiere Pro CS6. I have tried rebooting the computer, creating new projects, holding down the option key while starting Premiere, using Digital Rebellion's CS Repair... all to no avail. Any thoughts?
My system is a MacBook Pro (late 2011), 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16 GB Ram, running Mac OS X 10.8.5
In her Youtube video on Lightroom settings Julianne Kost recommends keeping recent images and works in progress on an internal drive for speedy access then moving onto an external drive later on.
Preumably these files must be moved within Lightroom to preserve the links to the thumbnails?
I use a MacPro. My boot drive is a 3 TB internal hard drive. My .lrdata file (LR 5) is over 275 GB because I have 1:1 previews for all of my photos. I have recently purchased a 240GB SSD which I want to use as my boot drive to increase processing times. Can I have the .lrcat file on my SSD (for speed) and the corresponding .lrdata file on another drive?
How can I move selected pictures between two hard drives, creating date subfolders (year, month day) and maintaining the same collections? I mean, I just trying to separate my work files from my personal ones and put them in two different hard drives. Also often these pictures are in the same folders, so I can't just move the entire month or day folder, I have to select the pictures using the keywording tags.. I've already created the new folder.
I have been copying my raw files to two different hard drives using DNG. I discovered last night that the backup file stays in the proprietary raw format. I have been operating under assumption that the backup would be in DNG format. I have been backing up my catalog onto the extra hard drive assuming if my primary drive failed, I would then have the back up hard drive with the backup catalog and things would be fine.
Is the only way to ensure my work is "safe" is to backup the primary hard drive onto a secondary hard drive? Can the dng files along with the catalog be backed up onto an online "cloud" type of service? Will the data be changed so I cannot recopy it and reuse it if my primary drive fails or my house burns down? Any recommendations for a cloud type of back-up service? Is there another methodology that should be employed to keep my photos and catalog data safe from a catastrophe?
I have LR4 in a Mac Pro. I have two internal drives both labelled "Hard Drive 2" (don't ask.) As a result, pictures have ended up on both drives, and my catalog is a mess. To clean it up, I want all the photos on one drive and I want to move LR folders from one drive to the other. I'm working on a big project and there are some 4,000 photos involved. I was going to export the photos from one drive to an external drive and then re-import them to the other drive into appropriate folders.
I have an interesting issue. I had CS4 installed on my old computer running 32 bit Windows XP. I built a new computer running Windows 7 - 64 bit, and installed CS4 on it. I took my hard drives containing my photos out of the old system and plugged them into the new computer. In photoshop, I can open and edit the photos, but it will not allow me to save them - it tells me that another app has the file open. I can save the photo under a new name.
This leads me to belive that there is some data saved with the file that does not match up on the new computer.
I was trying to find all the photo files on my drives with X5 in manage mode. Ran very slow, when I went to close message said clipboard very full. How do I get into the clipboard and reduce it's size?
I had my automatic save set up for every 10 minutes but files were not being saved regularly. I deleted files from the Temp folder thinking it was full and now there are no .sv$ saving at all. How can I make drawings save automatically every 10 minutes?
I have a drawing with a screen and behind it is an xref drawing. When I print it to our KIP plotter the lines and other items behind the screen do not plot.
Here is how it is setup and what I have tried
The Xref itself is on its own layer and all the layers of the xref are set to a color that has thickness of .0138 and a 35% screen.
The hatch resides in the active drawing and is set to a color that is also .0138 thick but at a 20% screen.
The hatch is a DOT hatch at scale 1, but I have also tried it as a solid hatch
Lines merge is on and needs to be on.
I have made sure that the hatch is sent to the back and that there is no overlapping of data from other sources liek a second hatch or the same data in another xref etc.
I also tried setting the xref layers to another color that is .0256 thick with a 35% screen, but the results where the same. If i change the xref layers to a .0138 thick color with 100% screen, they do print over the hatch then.
I have an issue with a drawing created in AutoCad 2002. Whenever I open it to edit it and then either Print or Save it shows Scanning Drawing and takes considerable amount of time for this process.
I created a work in PSP using raster + vector. The image is configured to A3 paper dimensions.
I want to send it to be printed in an external store. With CorelDraw, it is just sending the CDR file (with vector in curves) and the file by itself shows A3 paper dimensions when opened. So, the guy who will print just make the job, without any question!
It seems to me that files like PNG or JPG can’t be handled as CDR file by the person who will receive the file. So, what should be the better PaintShop file format to send to external store to be printed in the way I mentioned?
I am using PSE 11 on a macbook pro and am experiencing difficulty saving an edited file to an external disc drive. I keep getting an error message 'Could not save as “2011-08-04_0_edited-1.jpg” because write access was not granted.'
I am utilizing the ESRI ArcGIS for AutoCAD plugin to edit feature attributes in AutoCAD Map 3D 2009.
Is there a way to control/restrict available attribute values, similar to a Domain in an ArcGIS Geodatabase?
The .dwg I'm editing was created from a personal Geodatabase by using the 'Export to CAD' tool in ArcGIS 9.3.1 basesd on SDSFIE schema, so maintaining consistent attribute values is imperative.
I have shp files and an external database file and I wish to merge the data from the External database to the Shp files OD table. They both have a column with entries matching so I figured I could use a Join to complete this. This is where I have run into difficulties.
I tried to import the spreadsheet using FDO but there is no XYZ data its just pure data. I added dummy XYZ data and tried again but I am unable to insert the data. the checkbox is greyed out, I select the Identity property to match the main title and it does not work.
I tried adding a new data source but I am unable to perform a join with this. right way to import the data from the excel sheet and add / merge the data to the FDO table created by the shp file.
I've been surfing the internet for a screen printing press, and I am not looking to spend a ton a cash on it. All I want to do is make screen prints of B/W photographs, and print them onto canvas. I understand the basic concept of screen printing, but I just want to make sure this one from Dick Blick will do the trick..It's just a one color print press.
when trying to follow the "Getting Started: Animated Battle Scene" tutorial. I am at the "Adding Materials to Objects In the Scene" section of the tutorial where I am being instructed to add the textures onto the objects, however when I open up the Compact Material Editor, all of the samples (Battlefield, Cannon, Windmill, ect) are nothing but grey spheres.
I was able to locate the image files stored in my Documents/3ds_Max_Tutorials_scene_files folder, however when I close out of 3DS Max, reopen the program, and reopen the scene, I am presented with the "Missing External Files" message box. Where should I store the image files so that 3DS Max is able to locate the image files?
