View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a number of old external drives in "My Folders" lightroom thinks are still active mostly because the computer has assigned a new drive letter to the same drive several times. I would like to delete these from Lightroom and assign a new letter to the current drive I am using, how to remove the old drives?

I want it to scan ONE folder, something without a few hundred thousand TIFF and RAW image files (along with various copies of each of them in full and low res versions of JPG & PNG).
I have multiple hard drives in my Macpro. If I import photos and videos onto the drives and then remove the drives and swap them with other drives, what will happen? Will the images and videos that were on the drive that was just removed not be found in LR, or can it cause other problems/corrupt the Library, etc.?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI keep my photos on two main drives: one archival drive which is the main storage for ALL my images and lives in my studio, and one that is my portable working drive which travels with me wherever I go. Using Lightroom 3, I import images during a shoot onto the portable drive, and then later I copy the images using Finder to the main archival drive. I don't do the copy while importing from my card because I don't have the time to wait during the shoot. Since I carry the portable drive with me, I make metadata and develop and other changes to the images from a particular shoot in Lightroom, all of which are saved to that portable drive.
My question is, is there a way to have Lightroom sync these changes over multiple hard drives? In other words, how do I sync all the changes I made to the images on my portable drive with the images I previously copied to my archival drive? If I make develop, metadata, and keyword changes to the images in a folder on my portable drive, the idea of having to do it all over again for the same folder on my archival drive seems intensely ponderous, and the idea of copying all the files again every time I make changes seems very time-consuming. Lightroom is so brilliant in so many ways, I'm hoping this is something it knows how to do as well.
To explain, the portable hard drive is a small USB powered drive that I can have with me at my day job or take with me to shoots, where I might find time to rate images, make develop settings, add keywords, etc. It's not possible to bring the archival drive with me everywhere, which means I work from the portable drive quite a bit. But I need for the archival drive to be in sync with the portable drive as much as possible, for obvious backup reasons.
I want to have multiple copies of the same catalog 3 different drives
i have 3 drives , I want to have the same catalog on all 3 drives along with the photos.
1 drive would be my main catalog
2 drive would be back up with all the photos
3 drive is my traveling presentation drive with all the photos
I am using my computer as a combo video editing and Photo editing setup. I using a raid 5 for my video editing work, and two 1TB drive setup as raid 1 mirror where my photos are located. I am down to my last 325 GB that may sould a lot but I am planning on really taking off with my picture taking. I have a NAS were I also have my photos backed up. I have not added my photos to Lightroom catalog. I also have Photoshop. I understand it is better to have the photos located on the computer instead of external. How dose Lightroom handle photos on multiple drives?Should I separate the two 1TB drives so I have two 2TB available and if so were to place lightroom Catalog folder? Or should I make it easy on myself and just purchase a 2TB drives and place all the photos at that location?
View 18 Replies View RelatedI have 6 external hard drives containing NEF / JPG and DNG files plus i have some more recent photos on my laptop hard drive some of the files are the same on several of the drives (backup copies)
what would be the best way to merge all this into a single LR 4 catalog ?
or would it make sense to have a separate catalog for each external drive ?
I only have one drive connected to the computer at one time
Is it possible to ask Photoshop to save TIFF images using tile internal storage rather than strip storage? A little-known setting, a registry patch perhaps?

I cannot seem to find the file that had all of my actions from the old harddrive. What file would I be looking for? I search for all .atn files on the recoved hd and copied them over but my old actions are no where to be found.
where these files are stored?
Details:
OS X 10.5.8Photoshop CS4
After completing a many-hours-long automated process (Contact Sheet II), Photoshop decided to error out on me as soon as it finished. It has a pop up that says:
"Could not complete your request because of a program error."
It appears that I will need to force-close the application. What's frustrating is that the 102 files it generated are sitting right behind that error, but I can't get it to go away--it just pops back up when I click OK. I really don't want to lock up this computer for another day when the files are right there!
If I could only find the temporary files on my computer I'd quarantine and recover them on my own. I am a little surprised that no one seems to have asked this on Google (or maybe I just can't find it).
Where does Photoshop put its open, unsaved files?
I need to transfer them from CS5 to CS6. I can't work without them. I looked everywhere. Where are they stored (on a Mac)? I did try that useless migration thing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an interesting issue. I had CS4 installed on my old computer running 32 bit Windows XP. I built a new computer running Windows 7 - 64 bit, and installed CS4 on it. I took my hard drives containing my photos out of the old system and plugged them into the new computer. In photoshop, I can open and edit the photos, but it will not allow me to save them - it tells me that another app has the file open. I can save the photo under a new name.
This leads me to belive that there is some data saved with the file that does not match up on the new computer.
PSB files are stored (in the Windows OS) in the User's Temp folder. My Temp folder has a dozen or so PSB files with various dates. Is there a reason they don't go away when a PSD file is saved? Vestiges of PS crashes? Same questions for Smart Object PSB files.

Preumably these files must be moved within Lightroom to preserve the links to the thumbnails?
I am using Photoshop Elements 11 on Mac OSX Mountain Lion and want to store my catalog on a local network drive (FreeNAS). I have encountered many problems while attempting to do this. Then I noticed in the Elements Organizer help, under the section "Repair a catalog", the following: "Note: (Mac OS) You cannot access catalogs present on a network drive."

Can I have the .lrcat file on my SSD (for speed) and the corresponding .lrdata file on another drive?

I mean, I just trying to separate my work files from my personal ones and put them in two different hard drives. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 26,000 images on an external drive (currently designated drive M), almost all tagged and/or rated and indexed in two PSE 11 catalogs on the main PC hard drive. I am just about to replace my PC. I assume that when I connect my external drive to the new PC, it is unlikely to be Drive M. How do I maintain access through the catalogs with all the stored information?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased a Bamboo Create and I have had nothing but, problems with the Adobe software that came in it. The other software works fine. However, Adobe thinks I should upgrade immeditaely even though I just spent $200 to the new Elements. In fact before 11 came out, I could not manage my photos because being locked out since I would not upgrade to 10. Now, I cannot get Elements to work to even manage storage because my online 2gb is full but yet I do not want all of those photos online. I want to delete many of them. But, Adobe keeps pushing the page to upgrade to 11, and then my elements 9 locks up and stop responding because it says that my online is full. 2GB what a chinchy amount of storage that is. This software does not work from the get go due to the Inspiratation Browser update with the Adobe Air debackle.
I have been thinking about going to 11, but I should not be forced to and the software that I just purchased should work. I had not realized how greedy Adobe was/is.
how to make the software that I just purchased work? how to manage my online storage without upgrading to 11. As soon as I upgrade to 11, Adobe will just come out with another $80 to $100 upgrade that I will hae to buy or else 11 will stop working.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been copying my raw files to two different hard drives using DNG. I discovered last night that the backup file stays in the proprietary raw format. I have been operating under assumption that the backup would be in DNG format. I have been backing up my catalog onto the extra hard drive assuming if my primary drive failed, I would then have the back up hard drive with the backup catalog and things would be fine.
Is the only way to ensure my work is "safe" is to backup the primary hard drive onto a secondary hard drive? Can the dng files along with the catalog be backed up onto an online "cloud" type of service? Will the data be changed so I cannot recopy it and reuse it if my primary drive fails or my house burns down? Any recommendations for a cloud type of back-up service? Is there another methodology that should be employed to keep my photos and catalog data safe from a catastrophe?
As I am having problems with a NewBlue video filter (Picture in Picture - see separate post with no replies so far) I would like to find out if video filters (esp NewBlue) are stored in a folder which is not a subfolder of Corel/VideoStudio (and which may not get removed during an uninstall). Where they are located (as I cannot locate them).
