AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Delete Document Links And Embeddings
Apr 13, 2012Using IV2012 SP1, I needed to generate a bracket that had has silkscreen graphics on it. So in the part file I started a sketch/insert image and using the decal command projected it onto the desired face. The image is a BMP file that is 5meg in size. It took me several attempt to get this right and all appears to be good. But upon completing this very simple part I noticed the file was 48meg! I went into “links” and I noticed that the BMP file was shown 7 times. The BMP file is showing “yes” under “resolved” for one instance and “no” for the other 6 instances. I can only “break link” one instance but can do nothing with the other. I’ve deleted the decal and stated over but it still shows up with the 7 instances.

Aug 18, 2013I decided to use my external drive and imported my pics to lightroom 4. I went through a few and flagged (rejected) several. When I tried to delete them, I get the prompt that asks if I want to remove from the library or permanently delete from disk. I choose the latter but then nothing happens.

Mar 8, 2012I've searched here and found several people getting this failure and just want to add that I'm having the same problem. I have the latest everything, full stop ... I get the prompts and nothing happens in the end. The photo stays in the catalog. I have resorted to removing them from the catalogue, but they're staying on disk.

Mar 7, 2012Lightroom can't send items to trash when deleting files on an external drive if the trash bin is empty for the relevant drive on OSX Lion. This was in LR3 and now in 4. You can get round this by making sure the trash is not emptied after deleting a random file or folder but there has to be a better way!
Also it seems to be a lightroom problem more than OS as Bridge can delete the files with no problem.

Apr 15, 2014I'm reconstructing an old document originally developed with PageMaker. I've recreated a half dozen pages hopefully with more uniform techniques. The original line art for the pages was created in AutoCad and some were scans. To bring them into InDesign some of the art is now in psd format and some of the newer art is in Illustrator AI format.
I've noticed that the pages with photoshop art print pretty quickly (about 30 seconds). The ones with Illustrator art take much longer (about 1:30 seconds). They go through a flattening process.
I print these 50 page books on demand and that additional time would add about an hour.
I guess the question is whether this is normal and to be expected or not. If it is I'll likely turn everything into raster before going into InDesign. That, however, seems like quite a bit of extra work. Going from AutoCad to Illustrator (to add stroke) then to PhotoShop to change to raster and then into InDesign seems like a pretty convoluted work flow.

Jan 17, 2012I am working on Inventor 12, previously Inventor 10 and recently (approx 4 months ago while I was still on Inventor 10), all of a sudden, if I tried to open a drawing where components had been deleted for example, it would not try and resolve the links, just straight crash the program.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Restoring Associative Links?
Jun 18, 2012is it possible to restore an associative link? I have a model that is being run by ilogic rules and everytime i run the model a invisible part in the assembly is still visible in de drawing. i can manually restore this by RM-->subassembly--> representation--> and then switch it to associative again, but i want it to just do it automatically.
ia also tried to do it with de following code but it doesn't seem to have effect.

there must be a way to just simply put the associative link back on.
ps: in the .idw the associative link is enabled but the subassembly is missing his link to the main assembly.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Remove Image Links To DWG?
Oct 3, 2013I have a DWG with some links to images on. I would like to remove these links but am having a bit of a hard time.

I have tried to use 2 different macro's to remove these but it appears these are not OLE objects (which the macro's remove).
There is no delete menu item when you right click on the image like either.

Mar 7, 2014I have an illustrator file which contains linked images. I want the images to link to images in a different folder on a different hard drive. They are the same images, but just in a different location.
I am thinking of temporarily changing the name of the first hard drive (which the images are currently linked to), in order to break the original image links. That way, I can re-open the illustrator file, and when it asks me to find the links, at that point I can direct illustrator towards the links on my other hard drive.
I will then save the file with the images linking to the images on the new hard drive.
At that point I will re-name the first hard drive back to it's original name.Will all of my other illustrator files loose their links if I temporarily change the name of my hard drive, and then change it back to it's original name?
(I have used this technique by changing folder names, and it has worked. But I was afraid to change the name of my Hard Drive because there are a guzillion files on it, and I can't afford for my illustrator files to lose any of their links.)

Mar 27, 2013I am running Inventor 2008 and have recently created a few models. All of the models I have created have been linked to external spreadsheets at the part and assembly levels. Everything for a complete model is in a single folder, the spreadsheet and all parts, assemblies and drawings. With my previous models I was taking the entire folder and copying it to new locations to make slightly different models. When I would do this all the links of the copied parts were pathing to the copied spreadsheet, not the original, which is what I want. With my most recent model the copied parts are still pathing to the original spreadsheet.
P.S.: I tried to get around this by doing a pack and go and ended up with the same issue.

Jul 31, 2012I'm creating temp projects out the wazoo. There are so many unresolved projects that Inventor's window to "Click okay and stop searching for these projects window" is longer than my two widescreens can display stacked on top of each other in portrait view...
Is there any way to manually clear the projects list?

Sep 20, 2012So I made a shop drawing of an assembly, which is very complex and took a great deal of time to complete. It has 3 sheets and a bunch of different views and information already on the drawing.
Now the thing is I took the assembly and made it an iassembly; but I did this in another file so I wouldnt screw up all the work I did before. Now I realize that I dont have the links to the shop drawing that I wish I did.
how to link the shop drawing to the new iassembly model?

Oct 25, 2011I have shp files and an external database file and I wish to merge the data from the External database to the Shp files OD table.They both have a column with entries matching so I figured I could use a Join to complete this. This is where I have run into difficulties.
I tried to import the spreadsheet using FDO but there is no XYZ data its just pure data. I added dummy XYZ data and tried again but I am unable to insert the data. the checkbox is greyed out, I select the Identity property to match the main title and it does not work.
I tried adding a new data source but I am unable to perform a join with this. right way to import the data from the excel sheet and add / merge the data to the FDO table created by the shp file.
AutoCAD 2013 :: Missing External Files Error
Dec 9, 2012when trying to follow the "Getting Started: Animated Battle Scene" tutorial. I am at the "Adding Materials to Objects In the Scene" section of the tutorial where I am being instructed to add the textures onto the objects, however when I open up the Compact Material Editor, all of the samples (Battlefield, Cannon, Windmill, ect) are nothing but grey spheres.
I was able to locate the image files stored in my Documents/3ds_Max_Tutorials_scene_files folder, however when I close out of 3DS Max, reopen the program, and reopen the scene, I am presented with the "Missing External Files" message box. Where should I store the image files so that 3DS Max is able to locate the image files?

It seems that nearly every tutorial I have tried to do is missing critical external files. When I open the material editor, the compact one, the sample files are there, but they are all blank. That is there has been no material added to the sample. Is there a way I can import the missing external files without having to uninstall and reinstall?

I'm trying to access the value of a parameter in the document from the external rule's function. Attached is a simple version of what I'm trying to do. If I manually run the external rule, it seems to work just fine, but when I call on the function from a seperate rule, its unable to get the parameter value. I get an error stating, "'Parameter' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level."

However, Inventor invariably crashes at this point - especially if panning a model. Is there a way I can either lock Inventor from the user whilst the save is happening or check that no mouse or keyboard activity is in use?
I have tried monitoring the status bar text for "Ready" but tihs is unreliable.
