View 4 RepliesI saw this feature in a drawing but can not figure out how:
Within a text box is linked to the file name, if I close and rename, when I open the file name is his name changed into the drawing with DWG extension including. How do I do this?
I am hoping to link text items between pages and items in the drawing such as elevations?
So, ideally, I would have a front page to my drawing set, and this would have a 'Contents' type table on it, with the title name of each drawing in one column, then the drawing number in the next column. This is the tricky bit, someone must know: If i was to change the name / number of any item in this table, could it change also (linked to) the following items:
Drawing title (as a text idem on the layout sheet that that drawing relates to)
Drawing number (as a text idem on the layout sheet that that drawing relates to)
Elevation call-out (on the plan view)
And possibly:
Excel reference cell
Drawing layout tab title (this might be pushing it!!)
Perhaps this could be done by linking to an external Excel spreadsheet with these titles modified in there? I'm not sure. This would be ideal as typing into excel is a lot easier than the triple click text modify method required currently.
I waste a lot of time renaming and updating sheet names / titles / numbers. Are there standard templates for drawing sets that may have this built in available anywhere that I could try?
I have 2 to 6 tables per drawing, each at a maximum of 48 cells. I linked them through the special paste and expended them so each cell is 6" Wide and 1" Tall (in model space) and seen through a viewport at 2" = 1'-0" (so 1" wide by .167" tall). The text is noticeably fuzzy and I'm trying to clear it up without going back to the Tables (the reformatting of the Tables already spent an extra 2 hours on one of the 11 assignments).
View 0 Replies View RelatedI have a situation where I have my master BOM that is shown on sheet 1 of my drawing that represents everything shown on the drawing. What I am running into is I have to detail a couple of sub-assemblies as details on the drawing.
What I do is bring in views from that sub assembly seperate from the main assembly, but the problem is those items dont show up in the main BOM. I end up having to drag in a second BOM that I place off of the drawing sheet as well as adding line items in the main BOM to represent these components in the sub assembly. Then manually change the items numbers in the second BOM to match the iotem numbers in the main BOM. What I would like to know is if it is at all possible to link the two BOM's together so I can change the item numbers in the main BOM and it funnels down to the second BOM.
I may be dreaming. is it possible to link a viewport to another drawing?
I know i can insert the dwg as an X-ref. treat it like a block but would like to find another way
Been wondering, if a part that I create, make a drawing for and save, can I take the part, save as, and then take the drawing, save as, and re-link the drawing to the newly 'saved as' IPT?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to link an excel sheet with a drawing, so changing the excel changes the drawing.
I used this awesome site to learn about going to Edit->Paste Special->Paste Link->AutoCAD Entities...but I don't have that choice. Just the one that makes the OLE image. While that will work, that is less than ideal. It appears in just normal paste, but not under paste link.
AutoCAD 2007, A.54; Excel 2003 SP3; Windows XP SP3.
I have drawings I reuse for different designs. I sometimes insert a parameter value from a part into a drawing dimension for different reasons. When I copy these drawings and no longer reference that particular part, the dimensions in question get deleted by turning off the "Preserve Orphan Annontations", but the fact that the dimension that referenced the parameter value is deleted does not affect the link, and the drawing tells me there are still unresolved parts! Is there someway to remove these references from the drawing? I can write a macro if I have to, just not sure if there is some other way to do this, or even if a macro can do this? I can apparently just pick some other part in the job that doesn't even have that parameter and the unresolved warning goes away, but is that sufficient? I would think an option in the resolve file dialog should let you delete the reference instead? Using IV2012.

View 1 Replies View RelatedLet's say I have two independent drawings one with a single part and 1 with an assembly + parts list containing the single part.
So I would like to have an item note on the drawing sheet with the single part referring to the assy drawing, part number & Quantity for this item in the parts list.
Is there a way to link the path of the survey data base in the drawing, so I do not have to set the working folder every time?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI wanted to know if there is a way to restore the link between a part/assembly and a drawing so that the drawing will open when "Open Drawing" is selected from right clicking the part/assembly from the Model browser in Inventor.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to see if I can write a rule that will link a custom property at the part level in a template and have it update when I copy the part and drawing to a new design. Below is the formula I'm using and it works in the original files but when I use Design Assistant to create a copy for a new design, this formula will not update.
iProperties.Value("Custom", "Title")=Parameter("Bearing_#01.ipt.Build_Title")
I've been teaching myself inventor over the past couple of months so I can design the rear suspension setup for my car.
I've got the IRS modelled with enough detail to show my engineer the concept, but I want the suspension to "work", ie each link will move as the suspension flexes.
I'm attaching the arms (blue, dark green, red and yellow) to the cradle (orange) using the joint command, and selecting "rotational". This works fine and the arms can swivel about a single axis as they should. But as soon as I attach the knuckle (lime green) to the other end of all the arms using the same type of joint (except the joint with the blue lower control arm, which is a ball joint), nothing will move.
I understand that in real life, each joint has a bit of "slop" in it, allowed by rubber bushings, which prevents the whole setup from binding.
To my uneducated mind, the solution would lie in one of 3 methods: Convert all the joints to ball joints (I'd like to avoid this if possible) Add some kind of flexible rubber bushing to all of the joints (probably not possible) Get rid of the rotational joint constraints altogether and somehow mate all the parts to each other using work points, rather than a cylindrical bolt and eyelet, so that each arm has full range of movement in both the X and Y axes.
Is it possible to create a associative text in a sketched symbol that is linked to a BOM row? I want to display the object number of BOM row in a sketched symbol in a drawing. Sorting and renumbering BOM should be recognized and the number should be updated.
The ESKD-AddIn seems to be able to do so in technical requirements, but how is this done?
I'm trying to link a text from Autocad to an excel spreadsheet so that when changed in Excel, be changed in autocad.
After searching on some forums, I started doing database through ODBC.
I made a table in excel selecting and naming fields, added the file in windows OBDC manager, able to make the connection through dbConnect autocad, created label ...
Now I need to put the information in the database autocad text entity and already there I'm not getting more done
Im trying to link mtext in an acad drawing to a word document. For example, when I write a legal description based on a drawing, in word, I want the text that I am referencing in the drawing to be linked. In other words, if I change the text in the drawing, it will automatically change the text in the word doc.
View 3 Replies View RelatedCan i link several text fields to different layouts in the same DWG? I need to change the same information into several layouts, and it`s taking me too much time to do that.
eg: if i have a field "Smith" in Layout 1, 2, 3, 4 (linked between them) and i want to change from Smith to Johnson , if i change it in Layout 1, it will automatically change it in all Layouts.
Is there any command in autocad to LINK TEXT TO SCHEDULE TABLE. I have door & windows in my plan I have given attribute numbers to them as per sizes like for
800mm -w1
900mm-w2
1200mm-w3 etc...
I have made window opening schedule table , when ever i add or delete one window form schedule i have to change the order. like if i delete 900mm window schedule will be.
800mm- w1
1200mm- w2 etc....
so I am looking for a command when ever i change my schedule table my attribute numbers should also change.
Is there anyway to link a field text from one layout to another layout? I need something that when I change a title to one layout the other layouts will change automatically.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis may be confusing, but I wonder if there's any way to link an object to a certain text place or paragraph in a text frame, so if you edit the text somewhere, the "linked" image will move up/down with its associated text? That is, the object being a part of the text flow.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to link a series of text lines in an autocad drawing to there corresponding fields in an excel sheet, I can not use tables in autocad because of the way other software uses the text in autocad. I have attached files of the text layout in acad and of the sheet in excel. One thing that keeps me from using tables in acad is that every line of text is on a different layer, with tables you can't control the layer of table its always on the current layer.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using AutoCAD Mechanical 2013. Is there any way to link excel sheet to AutoCAD drawings? So i can take updated excel sheet and link it with AutoCAD and if there is any change in excel sheet then it will be updated in CAD file as well.If there is any setting or grid referencing to be made. I am ready to do the required changes to meet my requirement.
I'm messing around with tables and data links, practicing. I copied a range of cells in Excel, and did paste special to create a linked table.
Now I can delete the table object, but I cannot delete the link, cannot detach it.
When in Data Manager if I right click on the data link and click delete I get the error message "The data link is being used and cannot be deleted".
I have tried detaching, and the detach does not seem to take.
Now also, the table will not update from the source xls.
Win XP, AcadLT 2011, Office 2010. Using compatible setting for saving spreadsheet, for Office 2007 (not xlsx).
If I create a linked table by starting with the Table icon, choose "from a data link", choose the excel spreadsheet, etc., then I am able to later update the table from the spreadsheet, detach, delete the link, etc. But I can only delete the link if the table is not selected when I open the Data Link Manager.
But the one that was created following the directions from the Autocad video, with the copy, paste special, that link will not detach nor delete.
I decided to use Data Link Tables for my Excel sheet instead of OLELinks. The appearance is far sharper, and I am also pleased there is no background color transfered. What IS the problem is when I update the table, its goes from 12" Wide by 12" Tall table @ 7/16" Text W/O borders back to 3" Wide by 10" Tall with varying text size to fit and gains back all borders except diagonals (of which none are present on the Excel file).
So, any way to default the format when I refresh so that it holds each cell at the 6"X1" dimensions with no border.
With that, If there is a way to have a stencil for making the range links with Excel, that would be useful. I use the exact same 4 or 6 ranges (2 formats) in every dwg.
NOTE: This is in AutoCAD 2002.
I'm working on one of our standard layouts for a client. Our typical drawing setup is the base drawing file, surrounded by our Xref'ed border. On said border Xref, we have all the information that does not change between drawings (Revision history, address of job site, etc). The only things that change - and, thus, are not on the xref - are the title of each individual sheet and their number; in the case of these objects, they are located on the drawing file itself in the appropriate position. They are, however, the same font as the text in the Xref - "Standard". Or, at least, they're supposed to be.
The text in the base drawing file seems to be a different version of the text from the Xref - a much blockier, sharper-edged version than the Xref text. My first response was "Okay - I'll just copy/paste the text from the border into my base drawing file, and force the existing text to match the properties of the imported text."
This, however, did not work. The imported text automatically assumed the same form as the existing text. Here's a screenshot from the base drawing, illustrating this (The "Mechanical Plan" also exists on the base drawing, and not the Xref):
I copied the existing text from the base drawing (In this case, the "Mechanical Plan") and pasted it directly into the Xref itself, to see what would happen. Apparently, it wants to stay blocky:
In the latter example, I even tried to force the blocky text to assume the properties of the smooth text via MA (Match properties). I specifically need to make the text in the base drawing conform to the style that the text is assuming in the Xref - which is to say "Smooth."
I'm taking over the development of some Autodesk addins that are used to parse a drawing to bring back text from the drawing, namely title block and bill of materials information. I have another process that runs and reads the meta data for the drawing itself that gets run from Vault before checking in the drawing. I need to know if I can combine these two processes such that I can parse the drawing outside of AutoCad. Is this possible?
