AutoCad :: How To Convert Splines To Line
Jun 14, 2010I am really in need of knowing how to convert splines to lines?

View 9 RepliesI have a drawing of a map full of polylines and some splines. I want to somehow select or show only the splines for then to convert them into polylines to make them ready for laser printing.
The drawing has thousands of lines so selecting one by one to see if its a spline will take forever.
How can I convert arcs to splines.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI searched and saw lots of posts on converting a spline object into a pline, but not the other way around. I like the way that splines can use control vertices or fit points.
I know that you can apply a spline smoothing to a pline, but what I'd like to do is to convert a pline object into a spline object and splining a pline does not do that.
Any fairly easy way to do this? Are there LISP routines that do this?
is there any way to convert a bunch of splines into a poly? Its going to be a city, the shape is given. I need it as a poly, now its just a bunch of splines.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe are creating a new company title block for the use in Inventor 2010 and AutoCAd 2010. It has initially been generated in Inventor and exported to AutoCAD. My problem is that all attributes that came over are now setup as multiline attributes and I can't seem to change them to single line. Therefore you have to open the multiline editor separately for every single item to make changes in lieu of just 'tabbing' through the values in the Enhanced Attribute Editor. This adds time and frustration and seems to be intolerable for some of my colleagues.
Is there a way to change the attributes to a single line in AutoCAD I'm just not aware of? I tried to find different settings for the export from Inventor but the options seem to be very limited.
I could probably go over this and create separate AutoCad only titleblock and border but that would kind of defeat the purpose.
We have an employee in our office that is kind of old school in some ways. That person has a habit of exploding everything possible in a drawing. Most of us create notations using mtext so it's easy to edit and manipulate. Is there a way to convert the single line text back to multiline after it's exploded?

Currently I get all the properties from the line, create a new polyline with it and delete the line. I fear data may get lost this way. What is the best way to convert a line to a polyline?
// Line properties:// Color.// Layer.// Linetype.// Linetype scale.// Plot style.// Lineweight.// Hyperlink.// Thickness.// Material.// Start X.// Start Y.// Start Z.// End X.// End Y.// End Z.// Start point.// End point.
Is it possible to convert an arc into a segmented line? I have been looking for a couple of days now, but i cannot find the right command in either the help function or on the internet.

It is a drawing from an house designer, I am adding structural members and notes over the drawing. I could xref, but I need to move/erase some of their notes as well. It becomes cumbersome to switch to the source dwg, edit & save, move to current dwg and refresh, to have the note where needed.
This is a pretty strange to me drawing file. It seems that a bunch of system variables are altered and hopefully it doesn't migrate over to files originating from my machine.
I have some shapes ( real physical shapes ) that I need to the profile of in AutoCad.
I was thinking of purchasing a graphics tablet, placing the object on the tablet and drawing round it. The cost of such a tablet can be as low as £50.
Before I purchase such an item. I was hoping for an accuracy of +- 0.5mm ( 1mm )
I've read that you can calibrate the input of the tablet in autocad.

I guess my only other option is insert the scanned item as a jpg and draw lines on top of it manually tracing the profile, this sounds a little labour intensive.

I have a complicated 3d mesh and i want to use some edges in another software. The software accepts lines and i want to convert mesh to simple lines. I can make 3d polyline from the mesh but i can't convert it to line.
How we can convert mesh to line or 3d face to line or 3d polyline to line?
Feature lines are easy to make and great for grading. However, when I try to save the drawing into *.dxf, all the feature lines disappeared. Does this mean DXF files do not take feature lines?
I need the DXF files to up load into GPS. Do I have to redraw everything in 3D polyline?Or is there an easier way to convert feature lines into 3D polylines?
I HAVE A 2D PROFILE (DWG FILE NOT CIVIL3D FILE) of a pipeline that shows invert of the pipe.
I want to have this pipe as feature line .
is there any way to convert this profile to feature line?

View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to convert a feature line elevation point to PI?
My objective here is to delete all the elevation points except one. It would be time consuming to pick each elevation point and delete them individually (in this case there are about 15 but sometimes there are more). I want to use the delete all option but keep one one of them. If I can convert that one into a PI I could then quickly delete the remaining elevation points.
I'm working on crane pads for a windfarm development and have run into an issue that has never happened in the other 60 or so ones I've done previously.
I have a polyline (elevation added in via Properties) that I want to convert to a feature line for use in grading but when I try to convert I get the message below
When I check the properties and do a LIST the list reports a negative elevation.
Is this possible? The problem with the express tools is that they place these single line text objects into one MLtext which is not what I want.

I can't do this manually because this is a long pipe.
I have a client who uses Bently MX Roads for road design and requires that survey data be supplied in GENIO format. I realise that there are many possible options to get Civil3D survey data into MX, but I am trying to explore the use of the Subscription Extension to Import/Export GENIO.
Surfaces - no problem. Points - I see how I can get that to work. But the only linework that can be exported is Feature Lines, and it is also important that the feature lines have a name (likely related to the layer it is on).
I can convert survey figures to feature lines and name them one by one but would be very time consuming for a whole survey. Is there any way of doing all figures at once?
I'm guessing not and that it is probably easier to do the Genio creation from dwg in MX itself.

I have topo contours that are splines. I want to flatten them so they become polylines that I can give elevation values. When I flatten some, portions of the topo lines become circles.
How do I fix it?
I am using Autocad Map 3D 2011. I am looking for a way to edit multiple splines at once similar to the multiple pedit command. I need to convert them to plines. I have been selecting them one at a time, typing p, enter enter enter, selecting the next one and so on but it would be a time saver to be able to select multiple splines and have the "convert to pline" command work on all of them. As it is, if you select more than one it only acts on the first selected.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to match the ends of two splines (whose end points are coincident) such that there is tangency between them. This would require the end control vertex (CV) and preceding CV for each spline to become aligned? I have explored the SPLINEDIT options and see there is a FIT DATA option that leads to TANGENTS option but I'm not sure how this works and whether it will give the desired effect.
View 3 Replies View RelatedGot a strange problem when copying geometry that contains splines between drawings.
The image below shows the results, the white dashed line shows the copy result, the blue dots are the control points, and the red line shows the copy input.
It seems that the control points are correct, but the tangencies of those points, or control vertices are WAAAAAY out.
I also get the same result when inserting the geometry as a block..
I'm writing a script file that will make a few splines and loft them. I wrote out the lines of code and saved the file as a .scr. When I load the script, it will do the first spline but it will not graph the second. It takes the spline command as if it were another point. The text window for the end of the first spline and beginning of the second reads like this:
Specify next point or [Close/Fit tolerance] <start tangent>:
0.000000,0.000000,0.010000
Specify next point or [Close/Fit tolerance] <start tangent>:
Specify start tangent:
Specify end tangent:

I have a bugging problem.
I usually use Inventor to create a model from customer supplied blueprints, and then use the model to get the 2D geometry into
AutoCAD for further processing.
Now, unfortunately Inventor has a pitiful 2D drawing method, where circles and arcs that do not lie exactly on the plane end up as a spline.
They are true arcs and circles and should be true arcs and circles on the 2D view, but aren't.
What I would like to do is turn them into one.
Is there any command or method to do that?
I was hoping that Overkill would work ..... it doesn't.
I need to export faces on a part. When i do this in either DWG or DXF if creates splines in the 2d drawing. Then i have to go back and redraw all the radii. Is thier a way to convert or export without getting splines? Our machine won't recognize the face drawing unless i redraw all the circular segments.
