AutoCad :: Extruding Faces On Tapered Angles
Sep 21, 2011
I have a arc that is about 21.5 radius and .5 in width. My problem is that it is going on a bench that i have made and the corner piece needs to be cut out and i am trying to figure how to make this line look like an actual piece. I can extrude the piece to 21 inches tall, but then i need it tapered back to fit this bench were making.

I have a shrinkwrapped file. Now the link is broken from the actual assembly and the orginal assembly is now gone. Now in this shrinkwrapped file, there is a portion that I want to isolate. Is there any way to delete / remove the other parts that i dont need? Extruding, sculpting and delete faces dont work. So far the only thing I can do is add extrusions to the part but not remove.

I am currently using Maya 2012 Student Version and am having trouble when extruding edges. When I click 'extrude' many of my polys disappear. I will attach some screen shots.

I am having a problem with extruding faces on polygons and then smoothing them. Maya does not seem to want to keep my faces together, and instead, splits them up.
I extrude without smoothing and it looks fine, but after smoothing, everything splits up.

I'm pretty sure that 'Keep faces together' when extruding does not work correctly in 2012. Well not on my mac anyhow. If you wish to replicate my problem here is my workflow-
Create cube poly > make some subdivisions> select some faces> extrude with 'keep faces together" unchecked> Select a face and use move tool, notice that faces will move apart as they should> Now select some more faces> extrude with 'keep faces together' checked this time> select a face and use move tool> notice how face is still separate as it SHOULD NOT be.

i got Inventor recently, and i've been working on a model of a longboard just to teach myself how to use the tools in Inventor. right now i'm trying to color areas for the griptape pattern so i drew the 2D pattern and projected it onto the 3D model of the longboard. but when i tried to split the faces of the model along the projected pattern only a few of the projected lines split the faces. for other faces i kept getting these errors:
Create parting line failed Crane.ipt: Errors occurred during update Split11: Could not build this Split The attempted operation did not produce a meaningful result. Try with different inputs.

To create realistic threads, I simply sweep the thread profile along a helix with Align set to “no”. (This actually creates the negative of the thread, which must then be subtracted from a cylinder.)
When I attempt to follow the same procedure using a conical helix to produce tapered pipe threads, however, it does not work. When I set Align to “no”, I get an error message saying “cannot sweep the profile”. If I try it with Align set to “yes”, the profile is twisted and the result does not look like threads.
Any way around this issue, or is this a fundamental limitation of AutoCAD?

Is there a way I can create dynamic blocks that taper to a square point? I work with different styles of lattice towers and monopoles and I would like to create a dynamic block of a couple styles and have them taper with the correct scale.

Im using Inventor 2013 and im trying to make a tapered coil but instead of creating it with a liner taper i want a curved taper. Is there a way to create this (perhaps using guide curves like loft feature?)

I have cs5 photoshop and it seems to have a very limited amount of brush styles. Other people with cs5 have a large range of standard styles. I am just after the standard tapered end brush (tapered on both ends).

I cant seem to get the tapered effect to occur when stroking a path. I strok the path after selecting the brush tool.
Choose Brush and make sure there is a tick next to Simulate Pressure. This is important as it will give your curve tapered ends which will make it rock!

I know there are many ways to create light beams or God beams. There are several tutorials and net has many brushes.I just want to make a simple tapered brush in Photoshop CS6 so that If I click at a source like window then shift click at another place I get a 'tapered' beam, smaller at origin and flaring to larger size, like a flashlight beam
it should be easy with shape dynamics and all, but I am not able to figure this out.

I am trying to get my roof to show the slope of the tapered insulation layout. See
RoofSlopes.png
This is done with lines currently. When I try to modify the sub elements to get the look I get a bunch of lines that aren't needed and can't seem to remove them. See
RevitRoofSlopes.png
How to have success using the modify sub-elements tool for Roofs? The Wiki help shows rectangles and squares, not every roof has that shape.

I've been playing around with the pen tool and i was wondering whether there was a way of altering the brush dynamics so that when i stroke the path it produces a tapered effect i.e. so that the path starts as a point, grows thicker towards the middle, then tapers back to a point?

I'm doing a small 3D assignment for class, and I need extruding these trusses in my drawing 2". I'm aware that they need to be a solid polyline object in order to do so, however I can't seem to figure it out!
Here is the file:

I have the need to curve a region, then extrude it, is this possible?
The region is a flat view of a plasma cut plate with lots of holes/shapes that then gets rolled, doing it the way I describe would exactly re-produce in cad how the finished physical product comes out.

I am starting up my class again using AutoCAD Civil 2011. I want to extrude a circle or just a closed pline to a solid. I have done this many times before, but now it is not extruding to a solid, just a "Surface Extrusion". My commands are C:circle; C:region; (shows as filled circle and confirms it is a region); and finally C: extrude ; when I extrude it it is not a solid but rather a hollow "Surface Extrusion". Is it a function of 2011 and something I have turned on?

I'm setting up so isometric views with legacy hidden settings so it properly displays as it would in real life. I started out by making 2 rectangles (one 1/4" bigger than the other) and centered them together.
I then turned it into one polyline so I could extrude it.
But now it thinks that it's one big chunk of metal in the center, and not hollow. I don't know how to get a hollow piece of something.
make a hollow object that had a wall width??

When I try to extrude this closed polyline (yes it is closed) I get the message "Cannot sweep or extrude a self-intersecting curve." I do this sort of extrusion all the time (closed polylines with various geometry) and usually have no trouble.

I am in the process of drawing this bookshelf:
Bookshelf.jpg
As already visible on this picture I am having trouble with extruding some of the shapes of the shelves.
The tricky thing is what I have been doing differently with the one shapes where the extruding leads to the desired result and the others where it does not work. I have been trying different things: changed the shapes from splines to polylines etc. Does not work...
I´ll add a reduced version of the drawing here: the original shapes are on layer 0, the extrusions on 0 - X
