I'm having trouble with the "extend" function on AutoCAD 2012 (windows). Randomly, the "extend" function will delete the lines I select. I sometimes will have to undo and re-input "extend" three to four times for it work properly.
View 2 RepliesI know that I can use a clipping mask, but I prefer not to have the extra shape of a clipping mask. I've tried all of the Pathfinder commands and those don't work. The Shape Builder tool is tedious for this. An example is the circle with lines extending past the circle in the illustration below. Is there an easy way to delete just the portions of the lines that extend past the circle and leave those inside the circle?

I have tried pressing just the Delete key and also FN Delete, which is the correct combination for Delete on the MacBook Pro keyboard.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am currently trying (trying being the operative word!!!!), to create a block of a cill, which I can rotate to separate angles.
Problem I have is getting the internal lines to join each other. I have tried so many different ways to get them to meet, but seriously struggling. I can't seem to find anything referring to extending lines or trimming lines in a Dynamic Block.
My question is how do i extend lines to a specific point? I have attached a before and after image below for an example. But obviously it takes to long to do this line by line and getting the spacing correct. Is there a way to do this?

Whenever I try to extend or even move lines or shapes, it also moves the line it's connected to.
So I have a line attached to a rectangle. I select the singular line only, and I try and lengthen it, and when I do the rectangle also moves with the line of the amount I extended it. How do I turn this off? I was able to cope with it for a bit when it first started but now it's just downright annoying.
Why can you no longer delete layers with the delete key?

I want to be able to select all thirty or forty of the lines using either the select similar (lisp, AC2010) or quick select and return a total length of all of the selected lines. In the properties box it shows as varies.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using AutoCAD LT 2011. I have had an unexpected loss of functions that is not restored by a system restart.
When I select objects, I can't get any of the tools to work on the preselected object ( The tools all work if I select the tool first and then select object to apply it to). And I can't change properties such as layer & color of a preselected object.
Also I can't delete a selected object with the keyboard delete key, and I can't bring up the MultiLine text editor with the usual double click of a text object.
It doesn't sound like a simple command reset as there is too many things involved. Can't find anything on options and drafting settings that is relevant. So it sounds like it might be a total reload of LT?

I know that it is possible to hide individual lines, but It would be good to be able to do this on a part basis, as some drawings can have thousands of hidden lines that would need to be selected and turned off.

I am needing to import my map to a program to use.When I import the map the program is only showing the useable portion of the map in the top right corner because there are some invisible objects hidden at the edge of the .dwg file. When i hit cntrl+a, these show up but otherwise I can't select them. I would like to know how to make these items selectable so i can delete them.
I have access to a Map of a town. I would like to isolate a certain area of the town and make it bigger on the same page. But not let it link together, that way I can get some demensions in, delete some lines and texts which will not effect the overall map itself. I would just solely like to manipulate the blown up portion.

One of my tasks involved stretching and moving items from imported drawings over Architectural layouts. Lines drawn on the x and y axis were fine. However, if I zoomed in on angled lines they moved out of view making them difficult to select or position to a snap point. If I selected those lines then they remained in place when I zoomed in.
When I approached the company manager he replied by saying that he would zoom in then zoom out to the point where the lines were correct and in place. I thought that he was either joking or was testing me! It meant I could not do any detailed work - which contradicts the use of Auto CAD.
The question has to consider the fact that the lines were angled and that they remained static when selected. When zooming in and selecting them they were off and running out of the screen view. also note that my colleague at the next desk opened up the file on V2008 and he could zoom in okay. I was also using a wide screen if this matters.
I'm working on a project that details with topo lines. I have the contours, however because I imported them as DWG's from sketchup they're a bit messy. Basically, instead of being one continuous line, their endpoints intersect and overlap, making it look very messy. Is there anyway I could delete these extra lines? I tried the overkill command to no avail.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm just trying to do the same job I've been doing for years but have a sudden problem seeing which lines I've selected. I suspect I've switched something on or off somewhere. I select a single line and it is highlighted. I tselect more than one and there's just a great box which also encompasses lines I was not selecting. The individual lines are not highlighted (as they used to be) so I can't see what really has been selected.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter creating a series of grid lines. when i try to select any one of them, it automatically shifts the grid line up several feet (in the plan view) and shifts it over to make it an even distance from the next gridline. therefore it is no longer in the correct position (or aligned with the rest of the grid lines). is there a snap setting or something i am missing when i just want to select a grid line without moving it? even with snaps off, it still happens.

I'm trying to build a command to replace AutoCAD's "DI" command, to give distance and delta x, y, and z values in decimal and imperial, and keep the angles in XY plane and out of XY plane.
I've been wondering, is there some trick to starting 2 Bezier lines at the same start- and end-points? Or do I have to eyeball it? Can I reactivate an old, previously selected line after something else has been selected? Is it possible to keep several lines selected in separate layers apart from each other?
