I am having issues with files in Acad that were originally created as VWX files. The boundary command will not work on solid objects from a top view as it does with Acad created objects. Also, I cannot dimension any rounded surfaces because they are splines. Are there any workarounds to these issues?

The question is "How can I import .3ds into Civil 3d as a solid objects or hoe can i convert polymesh to solid?"
How can I remove the lines in the middle after I press and pull the objects.
Attached is the Untitle.jpg, to make more clearer to you. Blue is the wall and skyblue is the aquarium. I want the back and the front of the aquarium don't have any line in the middle but even I do shade command the fill of the color is still there. Cause if I explode and delete the line in the middle the colors that fill the aquarium are getting rid off See Untitled 2.Jpg to see what I mean. And also how can make the aquarium Untitle 3.jpg transparent?
Is there a way to specify simplification of a line when doing the Boundary Command? I notice that if I zoom out further that some vertices are eliminated in curves. How I can guarantee that the boundary is exactly the same as the plines that I specify.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm been unable to find what controls the display of the boundary of a section (volume type) object. A section object that does not show it's boundary, when copied to another file shows the boundary.
Same layer states, visual styles, and other setting between both files. There must be some setting I'm overlooking... but a search of the so-called help file was not very informative.

I found an interesting dynamic block. It has a clipping boundary but you can drag the 'leg' out of the boundary. How can I make such block?

On Ai CS3, while working with clipping masks I've been used to select masked objects with the direct selection tool, even the ones that fall outside the mask boundary.I can't do so with the CC version of Ai. Instead I have first to select it with the lasso tool. One can do so as well with the layers or else by selecting edit contents in the control box.So it's actually possible, but since I edit masked objects quite often those extra-steps are just annoying.
Would be in the preferences or else some option to fix it? Or do I have to make do with some bias..
i need to know if there is any way to control the points in the point cloud.
1. either only import the point cloud in a polyline area i specify
2. add all the points within a boundary not limited to the pointclouddensity = 100, freaking default is 15 almost cost my job today. extremely stressed out right now.
i am talking about extreme lidar surveys. 1km 1km LAS/0.5m contours/xyz files times 355 of them. covers a 2km wide corridor. but i only need 100m wide after i define the road alignment. no need to have all the extra points.
right now i densify the heck out of it and end up like 5-12m points. decent but not good enough because the geotech is bitching about that accuracy is not good for some feasibility study. or is there any software i can do this besides civil 3d.
what i want can also do is automate the 'add points to surface" under point cloud and have the software do multiple boundaries without having me baby it over the night. right now every click is 5 minutes and adds like 400k to 1 million points. Civil 3D 2012

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am working on a design project for a class i am in, i need to make a model of the design solution i come up with. since my design has curved walls, how to take my AutoCad model and convert the faces to something where i could print them out on paper and make the model. I need to basically unroll them as if i was flattening them on a sheet of paper. i have tried flatshot and flatten, my difficulty with these is that it does not take the entire object length along the curve, it will only take the distance that can be seen on the screen. I know this is possible with 3ds max as a friend of mine did it that way, but i don't know how to use 3ds max so that doesnt work for me.

I am doing this by using the 3D poly command and then LOFT, UNION and CONVTOSOLID. this has previously worked well, but this time when I use the LOFT command it does not produce a 'closed' surface, but rather a grid like surface which wont convert to a solid. Are there different settings for the LOFT command, and if so, How do I change them to produce a closed surface?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhat is probably a fairly basic 3d Modelling operation. I have a series of planar surfaces arranged to create a relatively basic object. I am now trying to use the sculpt command to convert these into a 3d solid but keep getting the error message;
"Modeling Operation Error: Operation did not add or remove material. Solid creation failed, no watertight volume detected."
Is there any way of;
A. forcing the sculpt command to work through altering some sort of fuzz distance option etc?
or failing this
B. identifying the non compliant sufaces involved so I can attempt to tweak them to suit?
why am i not able to open solid work files? The files were made in 2008 in solid work. I ma trying to open them in 2011 INV. I am also checking the box as showing the attachment.

I am using C3D 2012. I my drawing I have 3D solid objects that I want projected into my roadway x-sections. When I use the menu command to "project objects to section views" and select "solids" I get the message "no objects to project". Are their different types of solid objects in autocad?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI think it's quite a lot of useless work to always select objects before or during a command, if you manipulate the same set of objects over a longer period of time. Say, as an architect I have a floor plan with a table and chairs. Now I want to copy, translate, rotate and scale the table with the chairs until they fit my floor plan. So I have to select the furniture, copy it, select it again, move it, select it again, rotate it, select it again and then scale it. Of course, there is the "previous" option, but is there a way of keeping a selection set active after the command so you just can go on to the next command without re-selecting the whole thing? My favoured workflow would be: Select the objects, copy them, move them, rotate them, then scale them. The objects should be active all the time and deactivated with ESC after the manipulation.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI used a 2d polyline to create a surface boundary for a surface created. The polyline is a closed loop. For the boundary type it is outer, unchecked Non-destructive breakline, and mid-ordinate distance = 1.
My problem is that when I do this I only get a small portion of the surface to show up within my surface boundary. If I don't have a surface boundary the entire drawing surface shows up no problem.
The purple polyline is my boundary and the light blue is the surface created within the boundary.
