“Associative body copy API Sample” 2013 API help.
The above code in the API help shows how to do an associative or a non-associative copy in an assembly of one part into another part. ..BUT the non-associative copy does not always work correctly....
I have been testing this sample code and notice the following limitations with the lower part entitled “Create a non-associative solid base feature in the second part”...
The code uses the proxy body for the source object but it does not use the proxybody for the target object and therefore the relative positioning is wrong for the nonparametricbasefeature when it is created in the target object if the real target body is in a different place than the targetbodyproxy (e.g. it has been rotated/moved in assembly space).
I notice that if you perform this manually using the “copy object” button the relative positioning is maintained correctly even if both target and source objects have been rotated/moved in the assembly...
I have been given the task of importing and editing an IGS sheet metal part. cannot get a feature tree.
Its a pretty basic sheet metal part just need to add few flanges, change hole/slot size. Its for a college project so I have to do it rather than just redraw the thing. I would also prefer to use inventor than solidworks (if I still have it on my laptop...).

I keep finding it impossible to edit existing features from models/assy. Even if I change only 1 dim in the sketch. Once I close the sketch. The feature fails. I then try to edit the feature and I will see that the feature direction has changed, but invenotr will not allow me to switch it back. Basicallly there is no editting power at all.
So you only way I have found to complete the job is to delete the feature and then put it back in.
Is this part of the new way of inventor 2013 or is this another time wasting glitch?
Also now when I edit a sketch I must delete all of the dims, then edit and then put all dims back.
Is this also part of the new way or the direction autodesk products are heading?
I went to the trouble of going through my model to turn off visibility for many many planes and axes and points that I did not need to see. I had only a few on that I need. By some flick of the wrist suddenly they are all back on again!! I am now back in a state where I can either see them all, or I hit Ctrl-] and they all go away. I cannot seem to get back to a point where I only have on the ones I want.
So, how do I definitely TURN OFF visibilty for ALL work features so that I can then selectively TURN ON only a few? The Object Visibility tool does not seem to do this. It doesn't seem to do much more than the Ctrl ] or Ctrl / or Ctrl . that I use to momentarily toggle visibility.
Is there a way to automate the process of turning off the Work features in a .iam and STILL be able to add new Work features. View>Object Visibility is not the answer because you are unable to construct NEW Work features. If there isn't a menu selection, can a “batch file” be developed to search the Browser and turn off all Work features currently listed in the tree?
View 9 Replies View RelatedHow do I delete work plane 1 from the attached part, 'test derived'?
workflow.
create a part, pattern a plane, save as 'test deriver'
create new part, derive work plane 1 from 'test deriver' sketch onto work plane 1, save as test derived
go back to 'test deriver, delete the pattern and create a new pattern, work plane 2, (i couldnt just edit it because the real life case was a series of patterns at different distances)
open part 'test derived', edit the derived part to include work plane 2, (work plane 1 doesnt exist in 'test deriver' anymore) redefine the sketch onto work plane 2
try to get rid of work plane 1 from the part?
Is there a way to write a set of rules so that I can switch Work Features On and Off via a Text Parameter.I have an assembly made up of a number of parts used hundreds of times within in various sub-assemblies. If I make a particular sub-assembly 'Invisible' then subsequently 'Visible,' all work features that had previously been set to be 'Invisible' are switched to 'Visible' also.
Likewise if I simple want to set a particular Work Features' Visibility in one particular sub-assembly, I would like to be able to do this via a Text Parameter rather than having to laboriously scroll down the Assembly switching the visibility of features on and off.
At the moment if I turn the visibility of say a Work Plane On in a sub-assembly then all sub-assemblies deploying the same part switch the visibility of that Work Plane on too. Hence I cannot see my work for Work Planes.Obviously the Global Switch under View is of no avail,
So I would like to be able to create a Text Parameter for each sub assembly and in turn each Work Feature with a Yes/No Visibility switch controlled via a set of Rules in iLogic.
I have attached a simple model to detail what I am having trouble with.
I have constructed a sheet metal tube by first creating a flat sheet face and then by folding the sheet with two, 180 degree bends and large radius. I am doing it this way in order to simplify the drawing of the cutouts that are required in the "real" sheet (with many more cutouts than in the sample I have provided.)
When I try to add work points or work axis to the holes shown in the sample, only the holes on the second bend will accept the work features, the holes on the first bend will not - giving the error:
TEST.ipt: Errors occurred during update Projected loop failed because of multiple vertex solutions Work Point8: Could not build this Point Copy Point Zero or multiple solutions for Point Copy Point. Use Redefine Feature to change its definition.
I am using the work point as reference to the center of the hole in order to position a rod.
I was recently having trouble getting my 3d features to work in photoshop. I tried re-setting everything and reinstalling the program and changing preferences and nothing worked. Finally after about 4 hours of trying to figure it out I figured out that I was working in CMYK color mode, so I changed it to RGB and that fixed it. So, if you're having trouble with this make sure you check your color mode and be sure that it is in RGB not CMYK.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible, via VB, to modify solidbodies color ?
Actually, I need to modify part color. But in some cases, the part color and the solidbody color are not the same. So I need to modify the Solidbody color, to match the part color.
I found the bodies in ComponentDefinition.SurfaceBodies, but I can't find something like ComponentDefinition.SurfaceBodies.Item(1).color.
I have a solid body but I need to make a part of it removable. I want to be able to lift it off and put it back on. The problem is that at the moment it is all one piece. So what I need to know how to do is remove just this one face from my solid, turn it into a seperate part so that I can create a lip on the solid for it to set on once it is reasymboled.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen opening a third party drawing, is it possible to use the API to "recognize" user-created 3D features in AutoCAD? For example: grooves, holes, notches, and such? Also, if there are any attributes attached to the original 2D sketch, can those be queried as well?
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhy am i not able to open solid work files? The files were made in 2008 in solid work. I ma trying to open them in 2011 INV. I am also checking the box as showing the attachment.
There is a option to open solid work *asm* files. why it is not working?
Is there any way to set features to be invisible when create sketch after those 3D features so as to make the sketch more easy to see?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow to create a work plane, say, in the middle of solid while editing, to use the extend and contract commands using IV2014? I'd like to avoid using Fusion as an option if possible. This should really be an easy thing to pull off as many STLs are now available for 3D printing but simply need a quick stretch here and there to print accurately.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhat is the best way to get a hole table on a converted SW file. Our Engineers use Solid works and I can easily import the file but when I try to create the hole table in the IDW file it comes up blank.
Do I need to recreate all the holes so they are native to Inventor? or I am missing a conversion setting.

I have been tasked with making a feature/hole chart for a complex cast & machined part.
What the quality engineers want is color-coding of the actual features to denote which machining operation they are cut in. It's intended to be a quick reference for the machine operators to identify if there has been a missed operation, broken tool, etc...
What I have done in the past with simpler parts is import the .stp file, then FLATSHOT each of the views. I HATCH (solid) the boundary of the machined feature, then add the hatch pattern to a layer for the appropriate OP number. Callouts are added to the layout in paper space, and it's released for issue.
The problem with the new parts that I am working with is that they are MUCH more complex than the others I have done (50-60 machined features, complex compound shapes and curves, etc...), so using FLATSHOT results in many, many broken boundaries and edges. This has made editing them to get HATCH to work exponentially more tedious and time consuming.
I've tried to hatch by picking internal points rather than by manually selecting boundaries, but it takes 5-10 minutes for my machine to finish "analyzing the selected data" and almost universally fails to generate a hatch. When it does work, the hatch is incomplete, due to curves and angles in the machined surface.
The above method does work, but it's causing me to neglect other projects due to the time required. Any (comparatively) simple/easy way to accomplish this directly on the 3d solid of the part to speed things up.
I am using Inventor suite 2008, but I am not well versed with Inventor or the 3d capabilities of AutoCAD. I use Mechanical Desktop 2008 for the majority of my CAD work.
one of the pc at my work place seemed to be working funny, compared to the other pc.
For example, the command CO won't work, but instead i have to type CC to copy. The command MA doesn't work at all, and i don't know how to match properties.
Along the way, there are other commands that I encounter before. Basically, it jus feels funny for this PC.
Is there any way to restore every single setting without re-installing the autocad?
In AutoCAD Map 2012 on Windows 7 64 bit, feature editing becomes VERY slow for more than 60 features selected. It becomes even more slow if i use properties dialog for edit feature properties. In SDF if I use constrain values, there is no copy paste option in Data Table so i must do it through properties pane. My projects consists of 20.000 or more features, so how to do it?

When I type PL for polyline and then END or MID or PER they don't work, but they do for lines? Any way to change this? When I manually type in any of these snap commands my OSNAP settings turn off.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIf I want North (top) to be my Zero Degrees point (rather than east - to the right) then I go into FORMAT / UNITS which takes me to DRAWING UNITS..I then have a button called DIRECTION...Here is says:
East 0
North 90
West 180
South 270
Other pick/type
Now logic tells me that currently East (to the right) is currently set to 0 degrees (which it is)And that clicking North, should then make North (up) Zero degrees.
I click North, the button shows North has been selected, but none of the values change, and East is still zero degrees. From what I found on these forums, doing this should set North to zero, but it makes no difference.

I made my plug-in for Autocad 2012.I register my plug-in in registry and so it's autoloaded. If I open Autocad I saw my toolbar, my message from IExtensionApplication.Initialize and all my commands (marked as [assembly: CommandClass) works fine. No problem.
BUT! If I open autocad file by double click - autocad opened. Now I saw my toolbar, saw my message from Initialize! But any commands didn't work. Autocad said that command is unknown. What can be a problem? My be in Autocad version? I have student version and startup message about it.
I'm working with our new copy of AutoCAD 2013 and using the Visual LISP IDE to create code. I also have an AC2009 machine right next to me for other tasks. On the 2013 machine when I click the "Load Active Edit Window" button it switches to the console screen but there are no messages printed like:
$
; 37 forms loaded from #<editor "C:/LISP/My-Lisp.lsp">
_$
This of course is making it extremely difficult to debug. I have checked the environment settings and they are exactly the same on each machine. The AC2009 machine prints the messages but the AC2013 machine is just giving me a blank console screen.
