View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using the Intersect With method with two pipes. The Intersect With method doesn't appear to work with curved pipes if the pipes do not cross. If they don't cross the method works, but if they don't then it doesn't find the intersect points properly. This appears to be an issue with Civil 3D 2010 to 2012 API.
[URL]........
In the screen cast image the pipe on the right finds the intersection point with the straight pipe on the left, but not the curved pipe that is in the middle. I've had poor results trying to put in support requests for API related issues.
For Civil 3D 2010 here's the code that isn't working:
oPoints = new Point3dCollection();
Pipe oLateral = (Pipe)lateralObjId.GetObject(OpenMode.ForRead);
Pipe oMain = (Pipe)mainObjId.GetObject(OpenMode.ForRead);
oLateral.IntersectWith(oMain, Intersect.ExtendThis, oPoints, 0, 0);
I would like to know how to draw this pipe as shown in this picture below. Draw a 3d pipe with horizontal curve and vertical curve elements combined. Here are the design elements
for the horizontal curve for the vertical curve
radius=30.798m radius=18.000m
angle=29deg angle=60deg
The diameter of pipe that i am trying to draw is 5 meters.

how to construct a curved tube/pipe run?
I've created a 3d sketch with the run of the tube on it but when I click "Derived Route" although the full 3d sketch is highlighted bugger all happens. There's nothing in the "Included Geometry" folder.
Is it because of the material? I've set it to a "Tube With Bends" and set my default radius.

I am trying to constrin a washer to a curved pipe. How do I create an axis along the curved pipe so the washer can constrain and move along the cruved axis?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up pipe styles that have a linetype with text in them. For example ------SFM------. They work fine for straight pipes. However on a curved pipe the text goes all funky. Not only is the text backwards it is also mirrored.
Is there likely something wrong with my linetype definitions or is that normal behavior with civil 3d pipes?
I created a pressure pipe network with curved pipes. After I created the profile and told the pipe to follow the surface, all of my curved pipes had turned into straight segments. I wasn't able to convert them back to curved.

How to create a flow arrow label for a feature line that parallels the curve?
I've a vague notion that this could be done with a dynamic block and a few fancy expressions. I'm comfortable with expressions, but I've never used dynamic blocks at all, so I wouldn't know where to start.
To be clear, I know curved text is possible, but I'm looking for a curved line (ie an arc) that would look 'parallel' to the arc of the feature line (ie have the same centre point). This would have to be dynamic to allow for different radii and for flipping to the left and right side of the feature line.
I want to extrude a big number of pillars to a rather complicated surface and that works out fine. But each end of the pillars warps around the surface and I want them just to go up to it and stop with a resulting horizontal face.
View 1 Replies View RelatedHaving a time getting ribs to align 2m below top of ridge beam, and connect to curved wall below. I created one, then arrayed, but the radius changes at each 2.5 degree interval. I don't think I should have to calculate the % radius change to get the beams to do this. Some constraint button maybe?
Not sure if editing a wall profile is the best way to model this, but it's working.
Pipe network storm pipes: Fairly new to Civil3D and trying to set up parts list for the storm sewer pipe and would like the plan view to appear as it does currently. We use a polyline for centerline of pipe, similar to dashed linetype but line and space are the same, width set to pipe width.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI created pipe network for my storm drain project. I have located all the structures (manhole) to all angle point of my alignment as required. Also I "insert" manhole every 400' per local code requirements using the command "network layout tools; structures only. My problem is I couldn't find the tools how to trim the pipe that pass through the manhole. Please see attached pdf file.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way in inventor if you have an existing pipe route to create a new pipe run and place that existing route into the new run.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOne of the things I seem to struggle with is being able to depict a single pipe when it needs to be shown in one profile as a crossing pipe, and another profile where you you show a lenghwise slice through the pipe. I end up tracing the pipe with eliptical objects where I'm cutting across the pipe and setting up more for the lengthwise/sideview of the pipe. Is there a way to have two different styles for the same pipe, one for a cross cut and one for a lengthwise slice?

I have these two pipes, one is 4" diameter (running horizontally) and the other is 6" diameter running at a 30degree from horizontal angle. eventually the two hit, and at that intersection I need to make the 4" pipe join to the 6"' pipe, which then continues on its merry way farther down the structure. So I can extrude the two pipes, and I can even make a union and then remove the excess of the 6" pipe, because what I am really looking for is: a cutting diagram for the joint where the remaining 4" pipe hits the 6" section. A cutting diagram for the short piece of a Y joint.
I can make this image appear on my screen, but I am then stumped as to how to unwrap the pipe into a flat section so that I can see the curvature of the cuts required in planar view, for the real pipe that I have on my shop floor.
I'm trying to create pipe route using the tube & pipe run. And its not constrained when I try to drag away. I tried grounding the components which is not working either. since the routing opens in 3dsketch its kinda tricky to make it fully constrained.

I am trying to get hollow letters in a solid box.
I used a font called swiss 721 blkouI bt which is hollow.
I made a solid red box.
The letters seem to go behind the box and not in it........ I know layering might be a factor, however I am now on my 2nd week of autocad......?
I am getting hollow blocks in Vieports. When I look in modle space the blocks are filled.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have created the model in the picture in AutoCad, but I do not know how to create it in Inventor. In Inventor I Know how to extrude and draw 2d/3d sketches, but this simple model it is impossible to me.
It is a simple 3D part, no sheet metal or pipe. It is an structure. I have copied it sliced to make more clear the geometry that I am looking for create.
Imagine a basketball sitting on top of a pipe that is half the basketball's diameter: as a result, an inverted dome is comprised within the pipe. The intersection between the cylinder and the pipe is a circle.
How do I place a Cylinder on a Sphere?
I want to be able to move the cylinder and take a point from the sphere where I can attach it(the cylinder).
I will use the sphere as a joint for multiple cylinders so the intersection between a sphere and any cylinder must always be the circle that forms the base of the cylinder NOT another circle parallel to the base(if the cylinder enters the sphere, if you place a metal rod through a snow ball, the resulting object is a bullet, a cylinder with a dome: not what I want).
I have turbine rotor blade designed as per the aerodynamic considerations. The profile i obtained from the company is completely solid, I would like to make it hollow with a wall thickess of 5 mm. I tried if with the Shell feature of Inventor, and Since the profile of the blade is in different planes twisted in different angles, the Shell is not working very well. I have tried it with loft with different cross sections, but i am not getting a completely accurate profile. Is there any tool which automatically recognises the outside profile and will make the Inside hollow also in Inventor?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI do a lot of CNC milling of molds for foundries. Lately I get a lot of models that need cores and they are made without regard to the inside dimensions. Usually I explode them and break them down as far as I can then delete all but the inside surface then reloft the geometry as a solid. More and more models are coming with very intricate cores.
Any easier method of creating the solid core. Attached is a simple model of a simple part. How would the inside hollow area be created as a solid?

I have a solid bar which has a diameter equal to the nternal dimensions of a SHS. I am trying to create a weld, basically to fill the gap with a weld. I tried a similar arrangement with a Circular Hollow Section and it worked perfectly. I have tried fillet and groove for the SHS but it will not accept it.

3. The ball is floating in a kind of liquid, so the gravity is neglected.
How to run FEA on this ball? How to add fixed constraints.
