Aug 22, 2013I am trying to make a Dynamic block for Circular Hollow Sections. So i have a block properties table with 3 columns.
SIze (description) | Outer Diameter | Thickness
i can add a diameter constraint to the OD no problem but how can i add a thickness constraint? i cant pick say a linear or horiz between the quadrants of each circle it does not let you.
Now clearly i could convert all my tabular data to Inner Diameter instead of Thickness but i was looking to see if there is a way i can do it like described?
Also - i think i could also do this with an equation in Parameters Manager but for some reason that does not open, every time i click it the dialog does not display nor does it show anything at command line, i know this means its maybe corrupt but i can afford the time to reinstall just now.
AutoCad :: Blocks That Rotate To Different Viewports?
Apr 20, 2012I am currently doing a series of drawings with multiple viewports across the same level. To fit them all on an A1 drawing, I have to orientate the viewports in different fashion. This means that the symbols (blocks) look different depending on the viewport rotation.
Is there any way to make it so blocks are displayed with a Rotation of X (say, in this case, '0') on each viewport?
AutoCad :: Blocks Won't Show In Layout Viewports?
Dec 17, 2013when I insert a block that is made up of different layer lines and shapes then they only show up in the model tab. The other layouts I have won't show the blocks even though the same layers are turned on and unfrozen in these other layout viewports just like the model space. It's looking like trying to use multilayer dynamic blocks will be pretty useless unless they work in every layout viewport and not just in model space.

Oct 4, 2013Im trying to keep annotative blocks in the same spot on different scale viewports. The main issue Im having is, when i have a lets say house plan in viewport #1 and have all my blocks in place that I moved copyed from my template. When I open another viewport at a diffrent scale the blocks move. Im useing a large number of blocks for electrical symbols we use at work that I need to be in every viewport so we can copy them and place them where needed on the plan.

In paperspace i have a couple of viewports , all nicely set out at 1:5 scale. then i click in another viewport and bam, all the other viewports change scale (zoom out) and orientation. is there some system variable that i have overlooked?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Viewports Moving Even When Locked
Mar 28, 2013I know for a fact that my viewports were in the correct location, at the correct scale and they were locked. To give you a little background, in my plan sheet drawing I am showing a plan view and profile view and I use 2 xrefs to do this, my master plan drawing and my profile master. I was switching between the profile master and my plan sheet drawing doing some adjusting to the profile master's profile VC labels and making sure they will fit into the viewports I made in the plans sheets. As I am doing this editing, I am saving the profile master and reloading the plan sheet drawing. After I come out of the reload in my plan sheet drawing, every single viewport that shows the master plan xref was reset to a position way out in left field. This makes absolutely no sense because I wasn't working with the plan view viewports and I am 100% certain they were LOCKED. How is it even possible that they get moved if they are locked?
I am able to get around this problem by re-aligning my viewports to their correct position, its just annoying having to do this again. I would really like to know what is causing this so I can prevent it from happening again.

Feb 25, 2012Stationing still disappears in viewports.
Centerline alignments are in my BASE file.Got the station labeling to work correctly.Have the BASE file x-ref'd into a working IMP file (for plan & profile sheets). This is what I plot from, etc.The station labeling appears fine in modelspace in the IMP file.The station labeling disappears in viewports in paperspace in the IMP file. Will not appear even when I am in MS mode in paperspace and in the viewport itself.All the associated layers are turned on and thawed, even VP-specific settings. REGENALL does not work. Annotation scale is set to 1"=30' in all files.I always scale my border up to the plot scale in paperspace. This is a habit that goes back almost two decades in LDD.
Maybe a setting regarding plot/annotation scales is the culprit? By playing around with the buttons in the lower right corner of the screen I got them to show up once by accident then they disappeared again when I did a simple REDRAW. I do not remember how I got there, but the process was convoluted and probably not optimal or correct.I am using Civil 3D 2011, btw.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Create Sheets Multiple Viewports
Mar 13, 2012I am creating plan sheets and using the sheet creation tool. The plan sheets I am looking to make have stacked view, similar to a plan and profile sheet, only they have the horizontal alignment in both views.
I have a template set up with two viewports, but when I try to create the sheets it puts the same view frame in both of the viewports. Is there any way to set this template up so that I can have, lets say, STA 100+00 - 110+00 in the top viewport and then STA 110+00 - 120+00 in the bottom viewport. I understand that I can move the viewports once they are created, but I would rather have that done automatically. I am not sure if what I want done is possible with Civil 3D.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Xref Files Not Showing Up In All Viewports
Jun 26, 2012I attach an xref to a drawing, plan profile, and align the parts of the xref in each viewport the way I want them to appear.
The host drawing is a generic plan profile sheet border. The viewports are set to the same scale same annotative scale, and are undefined, not a plan or profile viewport. I save the drawing and get out of cad all together. I restart cad and open the drawing. The plan view viewport is visible and the xrefs are also. In the profile viewport nothing is visible or only one line is visible. Items in the view port are viewable, not frozen in the viewport, not turned of. The annotative scale is exactly the same for all viewports as is the xref drawing.I am xrefing a civil 3d 2011 aliment and profile drawing into these sheets. The only way to see the xref in the view ports is to detach and reattach the xref. To make things worse this does not happen to all drawings that are using the border that I used to create this drawing set.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Text Size Control In Viewports
Jun 21, 2013I have 2 viewports, one at 1:1000 and the other at 1:250. They show exactly what I want with respect to the area covered and the zoom factor, BUT the text on all of the survey shots is changing size based upon the different viewport scales.
I need the text on the survey points to remain the same size and not adjust based upon the viewport scale. So the text should be a fixed scale and not associative.
I have looked at the labeling style Composer dialogue and can not see a way to specify a fixed height which does not adjust based upon the viewport scale. I can set the point symbols to a specific size so they do not scale - Can I do the same with the text labels (description, elevation, etc.)?

Nov 19, 2012Is there an easy way to switch from a viewport in paperspace to modelspace and have the same layer state show up? I typically run with my paperspace set up with the layers showing how they will print (show lightweights and display plot styles) but I would like to be able to switch to model space and only see the layers that are showing in a particular viewport, to minimize manual layer isolation.
I am using C3D 2011.

Aug 13, 2013In older versions of Autocad when you created a viewport and locked it, the frame around the viewport would change color so that you knew if it was locked or unlocked.
Is there a setvar or something that needs to be set so that when you lock a viewport it's frame color will change???

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Profile Data Shift Above Bands In Viewports
Aug 10, 2011I have profiles in viewports were the data from the bands are shifting to a point above my bands. The profiles are correct in model space but not in paperspace, when I return to a layout tab. If I go into the viewport and regen then the data will temporarily go back to its correct location. If I switch between layouts the data shift. If I try to select the band data the pick point are above the bands, where they default to. This affect not one band but all bands associated with that profile;elevations, stations, pipe data. This wasn't an issue at first it just started happening to the drawing. The drawings were fine and I plotted out a check set to review and when I go back to fix a couple of things this started happening.
I have three profiles all set to 1:5. Two viewports are 1:500 and a third is 1:250, three different layouts. The 1:250 profile only affect the pipe data only and not the elev or the stations data. I have attached a screen shot showing the same profile in two viewports the left one shows the new default position of the band data and the right one is a regenerated viewport showing were the data should be.

Jul 10, 2012I made a simple block for a utility pole in plan view. It consisted of a donut with one string of mtext beside it. I had created it so that the text would orientate itself to be horizontal in each viewport regardless of the ucs angle. I later added a line for a guy wire and made the block dynamic with visibility states. Now I am unable to have the text orientate to a horizontal position in the viewports.

I want to be able to move the cylinder and take a point from the sphere where I can attach it(the cylinder).
I will use the sphere as a joint for multiple cylinders so the intersection between a sphere and any cylinder must always be the circle that forms the base of the cylinder NOT another circle parallel to the base(if the cylinder enters the sphere, if you place a metal rod through a snow ball, the resulting object is a bullet, a cylinder with a dome: not what I want).

Nov 16, 2012I have turbine rotor blade designed as per the aerodynamic considerations. The profile i obtained from the company is completely solid, I would like to make it hollow with a wall thickess of 5 mm. I tried if with the Shell feature of Inventor, and Since the profile of the blade is in different planes twisted in different angles, the Shell is not working very well. I have tried it with loft with different cross sections, but i am not getting a completely accurate profile. Is there any tool which automatically recognises the outside profile and will make the Inside hollow also in Inventor?

Oct 31, 2012I do a lot of CNC milling of molds for foundries. Lately I get a lot of models that need cores and they are made without regard to the inside dimensions. Usually I explode them and break them down as far as I can then delete all but the inside surface then reloft the geometry as a solid. More and more models are coming with very intricate cores.
Any easier method of creating the solid core. Attached is a simple model of a simple part. How would the inside hollow area be created as a solid?

AutoCAD 2010 :: How To Fill A Hollow Object Created With The Sweeping Tool
Nov 7, 2012I am trying to create a tube by sweeping a circle along a spline. I read many of the previous discussion threads on the topic but I still have some issues.
I first created my spline and transformed it in a polyline (some people recommended to do it). Then I created the circle. Finally I sweep the circle along the path.
The issues are the following:
1) when I look at the tube using the 2D wireframe mode, I can see that the primitives are not completely regular. In some points there are weird intersections and I don't know how I can fix them.
2) I hoped the tube was solid. However, when I exported (as .IGS) it and see in another program, I realized that it has only two circular caps at the extremities of the tube, but inside it is hollow.
I tried to transform it in solid or mesh or whatever, but it always gives me an error, saying that the object cannot be converted.
