In older versions of Autocad when you created a viewport and locked it, the frame around the viewport would change color so that you knew if it was locked or unlocked.
Is there a setvar or something that needs to be set so that when you lock a viewport it's frame color will change???

I know for a fact that my viewports were in the correct location, at the correct scale and they were locked. To give you a little background, in my plan sheet drawing I am showing a plan view and profile view and I use 2 xrefs to do this, my master plan drawing and my profile master. I was switching between the profile master and my plan sheet drawing doing some adjusting to the profile master's profile VC labels and making sure they will fit into the viewports I made in the plans sheets. As I am doing this editing, I am saving the profile master and reloading the plan sheet drawing. After I come out of the reload in my plan sheet drawing, every single viewport that shows the master plan xref was reset to a position way out in left field. This makes absolutely no sense because I wasn't working with the plan view viewports and I am 100% certain they were LOCKED. How is it even possible that they get moved if they are locked?
I am able to get around this problem by re-aligning my viewports to their correct position, its just annoying having to do this again. I would really like to know what is causing this so I can prevent it from happening again.
Some of our drawings have the ability for the viewport view to be dragged despite the viewport being locked. Is there an alternate way to lock, or unlock a view besides the option located on the drawing tray?

what/where is the pref to change the color of wire frame of a selected object- I'm trying to use the unwrap uvw and the fragile, winsome pale blue of a seam doesn't show up against the peak white of the wireframe.
(I must say my whole experience of 3dsmax has been awful because I can almost never clearly see what I am doing, as the whole interface color scheme is horribly designed)
here's a pic - spot the seam - this is in hidden line mode as you can/cant see, the pale blue line of the seam is blown out by the wireframe.
Just spent about 4 hours working on a cfx in a timeline then came back and discovered the clip it was linked to had disappeared from the timeline. Luckily I'd been saving setups along the way. But when I reload the setup, all I see are black frames with red text underneath as my sources. It's all copies of the file the connectfx was originally attached to, and the new clip name and length is the same, but somehow smoke doesn't know to connect them in the same way. Each of these clips were locked on a particular frame which I then had a paint node attached to (trying to paint up individual clean plates). I can replace each of the clip nodes manually, but how do I see which frame it was locked on originally?

Model Space: has two objects one being a circle and one a rectangle
Paper Space: I have created two layers title "Area 1 Viewport" and "Area 2 Viewport". My goal is to get it so I can "Area 1" layer and the circle appears but when I turn it off that viewport goes away. Then when I apply "Area 2" viewport the rectangle appears but when turned off the viewport goes away. Currently the frame of the viewport is assigned to the layer but the objects still stay.
Is there a way to change or create a new scheme (banding) by elevation? For eg. I would like to use only a range of grey no other colors.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIn Civil 3D 2010, the color of the paper background was a darker color and I was able to have yellow text on top of it and be able to edit the text. Now with Civil 3D 2013, the color of the paper background in paper space is white and I can't read the yellow text. I know that you can either turn the paper background on or off, but is ther a way to change its color so that it is darker?

I suggested to my co-worker that I could fix this via plot manager, but he insists that I change all colours in the xref to one and the same, so everyone can plot it black and white and so we don't have to set up new plot styles on every computer. (we've got the drawing file from another company btw).
I've had a look and it seems like I have to do refedit to be able to edit any parts of the xref. Most of the drawing has got the same colour already, but it just say "by layer"... how do I find out what colour it is?
How do I make my corridor feature lines to change color? I want daylight cut to be red and daylight fill to be green.I've checked under "Toolspace/Settings/General/Multipurpose styles/Feature line styles/Corridor daylight line - Cut" but it doesn't work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am referencing a survey file in my site plan. Both were created using Civil 3D. I want to change the color of all of the reference files' layers to 250, so I selected them all in the layer properties manager and did so.
However, some layers are not changing colors. One layer is red in the reference file, but comes through on the site plan as magenta. Some Civil3D structures are also refusing to change colors.
I selected all of the objects in the reference file and made sure their colors were "by layer," but it did not completely fix the problem.
I am using the default styles that came with C3D 2011. How can I change the colors of the corridor "frequency" lines. The lines I am referring to are those that are from the last sub assembly to the daylight line. This is prior to making any section views or surfaces. The colors have to be determined somewhere within the corridor styles I think, but I can't find where.

I go to open a drawing; drawing opens fine and views fine for a second, but then everything changes to viewing Color 9.... I am able to select a line or a piece of text and change it to any color imaginable but it always stays color 9. Although I am able to create a line and have it the correct color, it is just everything that had been existing in the current drawing at the time...
I have tried shademode, which if I put it into a 3d wireframe views fine in modelspace... but it always is going back to the 2d wireframe visual style that is the problem...
I cannot seem to find any problems with the drawing... I have run audit and purge all, I open backed up files and autosaves, all doing the same thing... I even had someone else open the drawing with the same occurence...
I set a viewport to a perspective mode. I do this by starting 3DOrbit then right clicking and choosing perspective. Save, close, open and all perspecitve views are set to parallel projection.

In paperspace i have a couple of viewports , all nicely set out at 1:5 scale. then i click in another viewport and bam, all the other viewports change scale (zoom out) and orientation. is there some system variable that i have overlooked?

Centerline alignments are in my BASE file.Got the station labeling to work correctly.Have the BASE file x-ref'd into a working IMP file (for plan & profile sheets). This is what I plot from, etc.The station labeling appears fine in modelspace in the IMP file.The station labeling disappears in viewports in paperspace in the IMP file. Will not appear even when I am in MS mode in paperspace and in the viewport itself.All the associated layers are turned on and thawed, even VP-specific settings. REGENALL does not work. Annotation scale is set to 1"=30' in all files.I always scale my border up to the plot scale in paperspace. This is a habit that goes back almost two decades in LDD.
Maybe a setting regarding plot/annotation scales is the culprit? By playing around with the buttons in the lower right corner of the screen I got them to show up once by accident then they disappeared again when I did a simple REDRAW. I do not remember how I got there, but the process was convoluted and probably not optimal or correct.I am using Civil 3D 2011, btw.

My company has upgraded to new computers recently (Windows 7, Civil 3d 2012). Some of the new computers are unable to access ANY survey database for edit. They can be opened read only, but the option of opening for edit isn't even available. The old computers we have CAN open the same databases for edit. We have attempted repairing/reinstalling, but to no avail. All the new computers were cloned from 1 original.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe issue happening when 3Ds Max is NOT on maximize viewport mode and showing 4 viewports at the same time and viewports start to jump, flicker and change randomely as if there is no specific view assigned for each viewport, and that causes a problem when I want to see and work with my model in 4 different views at the same time.
I'm cureently using 3Ds Max 2013 and previously the issue was exactly the same for 3Ds Max 2012. I should add that this issue is gone when I use OpenGL, but I really want to use it with "Nitrous" feature which gives more realistic real-time results.

I am creating plan sheets and using the sheet creation tool. The plan sheets I am looking to make have stacked view, similar to a plan and profile sheet, only they have the horizontal alignment in both views.
I have a template set up with two viewports, but when I try to create the sheets it puts the same view frame in both of the viewports. Is there any way to set this template up so that I can have, lets say, STA 100+00 - 110+00 in the top viewport and then STA 110+00 - 120+00 in the bottom viewport. I understand that I can move the viewports once they are created, but I would rather have that done automatically. I am not sure if what I want done is possible with Civil 3D.
I attach an xref to a drawing, plan profile, and align the parts of the xref in each viewport the way I want them to appear.
The host drawing is a generic plan profile sheet border. The viewports are set to the same scale same annotative scale, and are undefined, not a plan or profile viewport. I save the drawing and get out of cad all together. I restart cad and open the drawing. The plan view viewport is visible and the xrefs are also. In the profile viewport nothing is visible or only one line is visible. Items in the view port are viewable, not frozen in the viewport, not turned of. The annotative scale is exactly the same for all viewports as is the xref drawing.I am xrefing a civil 3d 2011 aliment and profile drawing into these sheets. The only way to see the xref in the view ports is to detach and reattach the xref. To make things worse this does not happen to all drawings that are using the border that I used to create this drawing set.
I have 2 viewports, one at 1:1000 and the other at 1:250. They show exactly what I want with respect to the area covered and the zoom factor, BUT the text on all of the survey shots is changing size based upon the different viewport scales.
I need the text on the survey points to remain the same size and not adjust based upon the viewport scale. So the text should be a fixed scale and not associative.
I have looked at the labeling style Composer dialogue and can not see a way to specify a fixed height which does not adjust based upon the viewport scale. I can set the point symbols to a specific size so they do not scale - Can I do the same with the text labels (description, elevation, etc.)?
I have not done this for a while, but I remember you have to click somewhere otherwise all you see is an empty viewport in the new drawing.

I typically run with my paperspace set up with the layers showing how they will print (show lightweights and display plot styles) but I would like to be able to switch to model space and only see the layers that are showing in a particular viewport, to minimize manual layer isolation.

I'm working in 2011. Just labeling some contours in a new drawing, using the 'Multiple' setting. I found I could only draw one tangent of Contour Label Line. If I continued, I could click but no labels were created and on finishing the command I could see that those clicks had been ignored. What gives?
I found that the labels were on the current layer, instead of the layer they're meant to use.I also realised that my current layer was locked (from the previous task).
if the current layer is locked, the contour labels ignore the layer setting that they are meant to use, and come in on the current layer instead. And you can only draw one tangent's worth of contour labels at a time before finishing the command and restarting.
Solution: make a different layer current or unlock your layer.
are contour labels generally created on the current layer and then moved to their proper layer?Is that why it hit a snag: it wasn't permitted to move the object to a different layer because the one it was on was locked?
I have profiles in viewports were the data from the bands are shifting to a point above my bands. The profiles are correct in model space but not in paperspace, when I return to a layout tab. If I go into the viewport and regen then the data will temporarily go back to its correct location. If I switch between layouts the data shift. If I try to select the band data the pick point are above the bands, where they default to. This affect not one band but all bands associated with that profile;elevations, stations, pipe data. This wasn't an issue at first it just started happening to the drawing. The drawings were fine and I plotted out a check set to review and when I go back to fix a couple of things this started happening.
I have three profiles all set to 1:5. Two viewports are 1:500 and a third is 1:250, three different layouts. The 1:250 profile only affect the pipe data only and not the elev or the stations data. I have attached a screen shot showing the same profile in two viewports the left one shows the new default position of the band data and the right one is a regenerated viewport showing were the data should be.
the panorama vista in one of my users civil 3d 2012 is locked in place and cannot be moved.
