AutoCad 3D :: Connecting 3D Solids And Define Pivot Points
Nov 17, 2011I there a way to connect the 3D solids of this drawing and define the pivot points so that when you move one part all parts react accordingly?

Legs should simply fold out like folding table legs, then retract back flush with tube.
I've got several objects that require multiple Pivot Points per object or per Group of Objects.
As close as I've come to solving this was a local movement wire parameter effecting local pivot of another object, however, it pivots the wrong direction (clockwise instead of counter clockwise)
It would be nice to just be able to apply a secondary pivot point for an object natively in 3ds max.
I've read, you can do this with IK solver and a pin constraint. However, I'm using 2012 and I do not see pin constraint in my options.
How does one implement the use of two pivot points to control movement concurrently in the X- and Y-plane?
I 've added a Link Constraint to the salmon colored component which is linked to the red cylinder pin at far left. This pin has a Path Constraint to an Arc path which is orientated left-to-right and arching up. The pin at right has a line Path Constraint that moves down and to the right. Still image 01 shows the retracted position. Still image 02 shows the animation at 50%, the Fowler hinge follows nicely the path of the left most pin quite well. Notice no movement occurs in the down direction that would be imposed by the right pin - if it worked/was set up properly.
I am using projected and sketched geometry (2D sketches) in assembly space to create lines/ points that I intend to use to define planes and axes. The problem I have is that nearly all the geometry I create (lines and points in 2D sketches) is not "selectable" when I try to create planes or axes. I cannot even put a work points "on top of" my sketch points. Why are my sketches not usable in the assembly space? Since the components in my model are just two extruded rings I don't have any linear edges I can select to make this work/ define planes.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, the camera pivot has changed..Whenever I set it to anything, it keeps going back to the stupid configuration of being 5 meters away from my plot... which means the slightest rotation makes me lose the view.
I tried using the navigation the navigation wheel's "center", but it sets it in two dimensions of the projection's plot on my screen, which is not enough.
And I tried the command alias "3DO", but every time I do it, it works only once... and for some reason the camera pivot gets lost again on the next move.
how to change the camera pivot position by entering it somewhere like (0,0,0).
I have a three button mouse. I can use Shift + Center button to orbit my drawing. problem it, the stuff is always flying off the screen because the pivot point is at the center of the drawing / part / assembly/etc. This annoys me to no end. How do I change the Orbit Pivot to default to the center of the screen?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIf you hold down F4 to orbit in 3D (equally press the Orbit button under view on the ribbon) you can temporarily set the orbit pivot position by left clicking the mouse. I have a 3D mouse (3dconnexion spaceball 5000) installed on my workstation so can perform the same view manipulations without technically having to enable the orbit command. But I can't change the pivot position unless I activate the orbit command and then left click - making the main advantage of a 3D mouse for me a bit of a nonsense..
Any command/key combination that allows me to setup a custom button to set the orbit pivot position?
I want to define a point (U in the following drawing) and use it as a reflection point to find the reflection of vertices of a triangle regarding this point.
I know there is "point" command and I can define a point with this command. Upon defining the point, I can't see it in the monitor and I can't snap it to draw the line.
How can I make it visible and apply snap to point?
My main issue is as follows: In the triangle ABC and point U are given, points A', B' and C' are reflection of points A,B and C according to point U. What is the easiest way to obtain points A', B; and C' and draw the polygon?
I do as follow although might not be a smart way:
In order to find the reflection point, I want to draw a circle with center located in this point (U), and radius is known (AU, Bu and CU), then draw the ray from A, B and C passing through point U and then trim the ray. If you have better solution for finding the reflex,
Reflection is same as mirror but my object is an imaginary point (A, B and C) and I don't know if I can apply the mirror command in this case.
I have several objects in a circular array. I want them to pivot on the y axis only so the Z faces toward the camera. How do I do this without the other axis (X,Z) rotating as well. The look at constraint wants to pivot on all three axis.

Another thing, How do i conect all my drawing downloads i have together ive tried the coordinates system and just dont get anywhere.
Downloaded from Digimap i have 20 different drawings of this section but i cant connect them together. I have a catalogue system which is just like a coordinates section with these 20 places. All my drawings are fine they open in autocad fine just need to put them together to link them.
I have two sets of identical spur gears. I want them to be lined and connected big-small-big-small gear. But how to connect this two sets together. I can create motion and axes constrains but it still lacks teath meshing. I found some tutorial how to create differential drive, it works with downloaded gears but not with one that I create (it says to set imates to visible which does nothing and alt-move mesh imates toghether which also do not work). I work with 2009 and 2011 versions.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIm having a little issue with connecting lines and circles but not sure how to shorten the question to do a search on here. I have 2 concentric circles (the two circles form the walls of a round tower wall) which have 2 lines (representing a wall) passing through them. I want to join the circles from the circumference to the lines, but each time I try to do it the line seems to default to the center of the circles and to the endpoints of the lines which is not what I want. The eventual aim will be to remove a section of the circles and the lines where the new line connects to them to form an opening in the walls.
Ive tried <shift>right click and selecting tangent on the circles but I cant figure out what to do on the lines and it constantly defaults to the end of the line not to where I want to intersect the lines.

I have a large surface (over 1.5 million points and 20 000hectares)
I need to get a point file .csv from the TIN to be able to use it in another program.
-so i've extracted the points from my surface, but they are Autocad points.
-next step is to convert them to civil 3d points.
-I can not select them all when converting them or my computer crashes.
-so i select about 25 000 at a time, the converting takes roughly 10 minutes.
and i have over 1.5 million points to do.
how can i speed this up.
will more ram useful?
there is a way to convert land desktop aecc points to cogo points and use the full description?
I do not have access to the ldt files nor to the Descriprion keys file. It would be nice if there was an option to preserve full descriptions when converting (that would be just too simple).
I have recieved a file with many points and would like to convert them into COGO points in Civil 3D. The problem is; I would like to keep the hole ID's as I convert, I've made a few conversions and lose the hole ID every time (not showing in Name or Description). Is there a seting I am missing to keep these? My aim to to organize the COGO points in different point groups.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have done some reading up on this but the answer is not apparently obvious. I want to do the equivalent of an AutoCAD 3 Point UCS creation in Max.
The attached shows some planar objects with 2mm gaps between them. These are orientated at various angles from XYZ in the World co-ordinate system. I simply want to move some of the vertices in a line along an edge of the parts in order to increase the 2mm gaps slightly.
Q. How do I set up the XYZ so that it matches the parts that I have selected?
I have looked at Affect Pivot/Edit Pivot etc. but there doesn't seem to be an option to choose edges for the XY axes as you would in CAD?
I am working on my project at home and I am having some problems with the fillet tool.
Attached is a picture of my problem with what it is doing.

On the left hand side when I fillet, it connects C to E instead of A to C and I do not know why it is doing that or what I am doing wrong.
