Jan 17, 2013I have been trying to draw a precast concrete tank and have run into a problem. The tank walls are not constant thickness. At the bottom they are 3.5" thick and taper to 3" thick at the top. Also, the top dimensions of the tank are longer and wider than the bottom dimensions of the tank. My solution has been to draw the outside bottom as a rectangle and offset the rectangle by 3.5". Then repeat this for the top dimensions, set the top two rectangles at the correct elevation and loft them. Then, I press-pull the center out of the tank. This results in a quasi-correct representation of the outside tank but the wall thickness does not taper correctly and the walls are hollow.

Jun 1, 2012Is there a way to use the Split Solid tool to partially split a circle and have multiple solids after.
Ex) I would like to cut the tank at the 180 and 270 deg marks. Using the split tool still cuts through 0 and 90. I tried drawing a line from a top view that started from center going through 180, but it still goes through 0 as well.
I've attached an example shell of where I would like to have 6 solids after.

Dec 27, 2012I had a chance to use the old StormNet software extensively in my previous company. This is my first time that I'm using it under AutoDesk. It appears to work similarly. So now I'm trying to model a small but a bit of a complex system.
I have a modeling scenario where I have a storage tank with two orifices. The first orifice outlets to a 10 inch diameter pipe which eventually outfalls into a stormwater treatment area. This area will allow ponding. Due to site topography a portion of this pipe run will be pressurized with the outlet set just low enough below the 1st orifice elevation at the tank. The second orifice outlets to a 12 inch diameter pipe which connects to the underground storm drain system via gravity. This second pipe run will only take on water that exceeds the capacity of the first. With this scenario I have a few questions:
1. In trying to model the bolted rims to make the portion of the system to work as a pressurized system, my understanding is that I have to set the surcharge elevation (at the junction) high enough above the max rim elevation. I have set up the surcharge elevation high enough, trying different elevations and the max water elevation in all cases is exceeding the max rim elevation.
2. My storage tank is a close tank. Is there a way to ensure that is modeled as such or does the program assume is a storage node such as a detention pond?

Mar 20, 2012I have modeled a tank(storage) and i need to show some of the piping that is inside the tank. I tried removing some faces and extruding the edges, then some beveling, to show some thickness but that really messes up the smoothing around the hole. Is there a better way to do this to maintain the smoothness?

Feb 3, 2014I have a .psd picture of a tank and try to animate it in AE by rotating its wheels and tread (or track?). The only solution i have come up with is to slightly change tread layer's x and y positions in every frame, making it to vibrate. However it does not create rotation illusion which i'm after - the tread vibrates, but doeas not revolves around the wheels. If there are other solutions to make tread layer rotate around tank's wheels, i would be glad to hear about them. All 7 tank's wheels are separate layers and the tread layer is above them. I have reviewed and one suggestion involved a using a bolt placed "as custom" instead of "as standard". AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Area (On Sag) Inlet - Correct Head Relationship
Nov 29, 2012The SSA literature states to use an On Sag inlet to model an inlet used in the middle of a parking lot.
This is more commonly known as an "Area Inlet" application, and is also used in areas such as airport runways, greenbelts and golf courses.
To develop the correct operating head relationship over the grate, we need to be able to enter a stage-storage curve starting from the grate elevation. This will develop the "cone" shape storage needed to develop the correct head elevation over the grate.
It appears looking at the On Sag options there is only the Ponded Area parameter available; the same parameter found in a Junction. This calculates the head elevation as a function of the ponded volume and a constant area.
I want to confirm that the On Sag inlet application used as an Area inlet, is using all four sides, full perimeter = 2(L+W), of the inlet for the weir flow calculations before orifice flow controls, not just 3 sides as a grate on a curb.

I have this special type of callout, which is not easy to draft, but it looks pretty in plans. Is there any easy way to convert this to multileader?
Usually, I create it as block, insert it and change location of solid arrow around textbox. If I want to relocate this callout, Its not that easy as like multileader. I have to move solid arrow around textframe (from one corner to other) to point the same location. can this be done automatically (like mleader?)

Feb 24, 2009how can I change the default arrowhead size from 3/32 to 5/32... I am able to change it from the palettes only after I insert it.
I would like to have all leaders of all styles match the same style far as arrowhead size... multi-leaders are defaulted as 5/32 and after using them forwe like them this size verses the 3/32 size of the quick leader.

Photoshop :: CS6 - Head In Cloud(s)?
Apr 24, 2012I was checking out the CS6 product page, especially wanting to see the uprgrade pricing (I currently own CS4 Design Premium full suite). I had not really investigated the Creative Cloud thing before, so I went through the FAQs. I'm still not sure if I want to go that route, or stick with the perpetual license thing.
You are assured of always having the most up-to-date versions, and can add any app at any time. I currently use Photoshop and Illustrator way more than the rest of the apps in my suite, but it is nice the rest are there when I need them. Who knows, I might really get into Premeir Pro or Audition.
The Cloud basically offers everything in the CS Master Collection. The question is, "Is it a good value (for me) (or you)?" It seems it's a better deal the more apps you use. In my case, comparing the cost of an upgrade to the Master Collection (which I likely wouldn't buy otherwise) would give me 2 3/4 years of the funtionality for the same price. Pretty good, even considering Adobe's new 24-month release cycle.
But compared with the Web and Design Premium upgrade, which would be the version I probably would buy, it drops down to less than two years functionality. But, I would gain the ability to add apps as my needs may change.The fact that you have to keep on paying to continue to use it is a definite turn-off, but not that much worse than the new one-version-back upgrade policy.
So, I have more thinking to do before I make up my mind. I would like to hear thoughts from those who have decided, particularly from those who have decided to get Cloudy. What were the main things that led you to that decision? Or against it?

I was able to remove the background of the top head using the lasso, but when I create a layer and bring it to my background pic, there is a white area around it. I have tried Grim Color Reaper, but it is wiping out part of the pic I'm overlaying. I think this is due to the fact that the pic has some off-white and the background is now white and they are being read the same. I've also tried the Magic Wand, but seem to have the same issue.
