AutoCad 2D :: Palette Docking / Size
Aug 22, 2012
I had my Layer Properties Manager and Properties pallets docked to the left side, and had the Layer Property Manager pop out at a specific height-(tall enough only to show the 10 layers in my drawings) so as to still be able to view most of the screen. Now, the palettes are 'locked' in height- (anchored to the left, but full window height), and I can not re-size it unless I un-dock...but when I re-dock, it goes back to full window height. Does that make sense?

So I have my properties pallete and layer pallete docked on the left side of screen. They dont stay open long enough so I was wondering if there is a time setting to stay open then automatically dock themselves back?

I like to have all my palettes docked, however, the Properties Palette won't stay docked after closing and reopening AutoCAD. Every time I open AutoCAD, the Properties Palette reverts to its undocked status (all other docked palettes stay put). Is there any way to remedy this? It's a pain to have to redock it every time I open the program.

I just wanted to say that it appeared sometime in X5. I didn't install X5 until SP3 was available. I don't know if it first showed up in one of the SPs since I only ever installed SP3. In X4, I work with the Histogram Palette docked below the image at all times so I can monitor what is happening as I work within the various adjustments. If I check/uncheck the "Preview on Image" box, I can toggle the differences on the histogram as I work. This is invaluable functionality. I depend on it for my work. [I wish the Histogram window would give me readouts of Histogram values when I place my mouse over the Histogram window, but that is an enhancement request for another day.] Now with X5, I can ONLY dock the Histogram window over on the right side. This is about the most braindead place for it, as the width is extremely limited, which limits the scale at which change information is displayed to the point of being useless. Seemingly more braindead, while docked, the only dimension in which the Histogram can be expanded without sacrificing image preview size is vertically. Corel has taken what was a very useful tool and rendered it mostly useless. Knowing this is also a problem in X6, I will not be purchasing that version unless it has been fixed, which I gather has not happened yet. I tried to Save an X4 Workspace and Load it into X5, but X5 cannot even open an X4 Workspace. I guess Workspaces are another USELESS "feature" since Corel seems not to preserve basic function across Revs.

I use AutoCAD 2012 .NET API to add my custom control to palette, but this palette changes size of my control and all its children - they become bigger than in Visual Studio designer.
Why this happens?
Is there any solution?
Will WPF controls be bigger in palettes too?

How do I control the width of a palette?
ps = New PaletteSet("MyPalette")
ps.Size = New System.Drawing.Size(164, 266)
ps.MinimumSize = New System.Drawing.Size(215, 150)
ps.TitleBarLocation = PaletteSetTitleBarLocation.Left
For some reason changing the Size and MinimumSize doesn't seem to have any impact.
Also..I've been basing a project on the width it allows me but on a lower resolution screen it loads cutting off the right hand segments of the controls.

my command bar is stuck in the middle of my screen and it won't allow me to dock it at the bottom of the screen. Nor will it allow me to move or resize it(They're both grayed out.). Yes, the allow docking toggle is enabled and it does allow anchoring both left and right. I've tried everything I could find through F1.

n CS3 I could change the size of thumbnails to be large, but in CS5 it only allows me to do that from the upper bar (left side top). I can barely see the brush imags on the palette (right side). How do I change them also? Here are the two screenshots showing how dramatically different the sizes are. In CS3 I could adjust them with the down arrow on the palette, but that option is not available on CS5. (See 3rd and 4th screenshot of cs3 versus cs5.) CS3 has "large thumbnail option).

In X5 I was able to easily stack two window dockers on top of each other by double left clicking each title bar of the floating dockers. All subsequent dockers would automatically stack on top of the top most docker. How do I do this in X6? Refer to the attached file to see what I mean. My docking window are stacked to the right of the workspace.

My work bought me a huge new Thunderbolt monitor yesterday, so I took advantage of the real estate and expanded my Layers palette to be very tall, and along with several other adjustments, saved this out as a custom workspace. Today though I am working only on a laptop offsite with no Thunderbolt and the bottom of the Layers palette is offscreen where I can't get to it. I know if I change workspaces to one of the Adobe presets it will give me a standard size Layers palette, but if possible I would like to work within my custom workspace and just change the height of the palette.

In X2 I always kept my File manager (navagation and organizer) permanently docked on the right side of my PSP window (Shown below) so that photos croped to the working area of the screen were my desired print ratio. It appears that this cannot be done in PSP-X4?

For the first time since I've had my iMac, the docking station (which is at the bottom of the screen) disappears out of the bottom of the screen. I can bring it back using my mouse, but when I move my mouse somewhere else on the screen, it disappears again off screen.
How do I get it to "stay on screen"

What the maximum size xml file one can use when making data driven graphics in Illustrator?
I can successfully batch when I load a single variable library with about 100 datasets at one time but anything much larger than that in the same xml format gives me a “the incoming variable library is invalid” error. Elsewhere on this discussion forum I have seen answers say there is no limit to the size of the XML file. [URL]..... But my experience with Illustrator CS5 says otherwise.
1. If there is a maximum size either in file size, number of datasets, or number of variables/values, what the limit is.
2. I still need to create thousands of the final document I am creating - if the limit is close to 100 and I need to create many thousands - scripting or other methods to get this done?

I've only ever used gimp sparingly and for simple stuff. I now need to set the palette of a 8-bit png to a specified palette, but I can't find any in gimp or online about how to load a palette. I need the palette to contain colors that may not be in the image if thats possible as these images are sprites of under 40 colors, but I need a full 256 color palette. Also is there any simple way to convert a string of numbers into a gimp palette? If not Ill probably just look at how they are saved and just write a simple script, but I thought i would ask.

I have more of a geometry question, rather than CAD question. I need to determine the size of a spar hole for an airplane wing. The wing will be cut out of foam with a hot wire. There is a round spar hole in the wing that runs from the root to the tip on each wing half. A carbon fiber rod goes through it. Seems easy, but the wing is swept back 35 degrees, so round hole will actually be an ellipse is when it exits the root and tip. The hole needs to be 5mm. The ellipse will be 5mm tall, but how do I figure out how wide?

Our supplier sent us some wierd size pdfs that are not full size or half size. I am trying to resize them to full size pdfs (Arch D) but am unable to figure this out in Acrobat.
My work-around is to insert them in AutoCAD and scale them based on known dimensions, then print to pdf. Unfortunately the resulting file is collosal and the quality degraded.

Modifying the point size/text size assigned at particular annotation scale,
I’m wondering how the point size/text size assigned at particular annotation scale can be modified.
For example, in the attached screenshot, the point size assigned at the annotation scale of 1/1000 is big and I wanted to make it a bit smaller at that scale.
Software: AutoCAD 2014, AutoCAD C3D, AutoCAD M3D, Revit
Windows 7 (Ultimate 64 bits),
Firefox 20.0,
Kaspersky 2013.

I have tried numerous times to make my paper size and actual plot size the same. My paper size is 24 x 36 but for some reason it rotates the paper and the output is 36 x 36, every time! When I look at it on the preview, it looks correct but then the paper comes out with a foot of paper at the top of the drawing. I've created new page sizes, etc.

I have been trying to get my paletteset to remember it's closed location but cannot. I have tried using a ststic GUD when starting the Paletteset:
Dim MYGuid As Guid = New Guid("DC218198-EFDE-4802-AF55-C9613342F7A4")
M_ps = New Autodesk.AutoCAD.Windows.PaletteSet(String.Format("Rapid Layer", MYGuid))
I have tried saving the location value to the registry from the Close event of the palette, and then restoring it in the Command function.
I have also tried using the App settings to save and restore this value.
How can I get the Paletteset to remember it's last location?

Right now I'm using at the same time AutoCAD 2009 and 2012 (trying the newest version). Thing is that I think that I screwed up both version from changing so much between them.
My problem is that when I click the Layer Properties Manager nothing happens, in both versions, the layer window should appear but it doesn't.
