AutoCad 2D :: Finding Inertia Of Two Sections?

Sep 5, 2013

I have two sections both region-ed. What is the correct way to find the combined inertia. The sections kind of "fit" into each other. So far I have used two different methods and I don't know which is correct.

1. Centre each section individually, find the section properties of each sections and then add them together.

2. Combine the section, centre them together, and then find the inertia of the combined sections.

So which one is correct? The first one gives a much smaller I value then the second ones.

How the mass moment of inertia (kgcm2) is calculated in inventor?

It says it is calculated using negative integral, however i dont find this very informative.

I used the data for a report, and need to justify how i got the center of gravity and inertia properties.

A formula, method or algorithm would be nice.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Determine Moment Of Inertia Of L-section - 2009

Jul 22, 2010

I am trying to determine the moment of inertia of an L-section using IV 2009. By selecting Tools>Region Properties of a closed loop profile in the sketch environment the moment of inertia is given, however the principal axes through the centroid are at 45 degrees to the toe of the angle (see attached image). I want Ixx and Iyy where the X and Y axes are parallel to the horizontal and vertical toe respectively.

Coincidentally, AutoCAD orientates the principal axes the same when viewing the Region Mass Properties of a similar Region.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Area Moment Of Inertia Round Off Error

Oct 15, 2012

I have a problem with Inventor pro 2013 rounding of the area moment of inertia to zero (region properties). For example if I create a new sketch and draw a 1 mm x 0.5 mm rectangle and measure the area moment of inertia it will be 0 for one of the pricipal axes. If I change the rectangle to 1 mm x 0.6 mm it doesn't round it off. Seems like there's a problem with the precision in the calculations somehow.

I have tried to change the document units to microns but the same thing happens.

is there a way to make inventor do this calculation correctly?

3ds Max :: Move Tool Moves Objects With Inertia?

Nov 19, 2013

Try to move an object and it does not stay fixed to the move tool cursor, but instead it accelerates off in the direction I initially tried to move it..... but in a sliding inertia type multiplied movement. Have I selected a different mode for the move tool by mistake?

I've checked the pivot point of the object I was trying to move and it was located centrally, nothing strange there.

Also, after the object has wizzed off the screen, pressing undo or [ctrl+z] won't bring it back to it's original location. The undo option is greyed out in the edit menu, suggesting that nothing has been saved in maxs undo history.

Photoshop :: CS5 With OpenGL - Disable Inertia When Moving Window?

Apr 21, 2013

Following a hardware change, photoshop automatically re-enabled a feature I had deactivated, the OpenGL acceleration.

I gave up on it 18 months ago because of one thing that incredibly irritated me, the crazy "inertia" when we moved elements.

Let's say you have an open document. The image is too large for your photoshop window, you only see a part of it.
So, you keep the Space key held, and you drag and drop with your left mouse click.

Without openGL acceleration : the moving ends as soon as you release your mouse.
With openGL acceleration : the moving gradually slows down until it comes to an end, meaning you have zero control over your work window.

And, well, that's enough of a bother for me to give up on OpenGL acceleration.

Any way to get rid of this feature ? I searched everywhere I could, I think I tried every one of photoshop's options, but to no avail.

AutoCAD .NET :: Finding A Sphere In Database

Mar 27, 2013

As part of the automation requirements we are working on (through the .NET interface), we would like to find out whether a given drawing contains a sphere and if it does we would like to know its properties. We are doing something like this, to loop through the database and am able to get all Solid3d type of objects.

What I would like to know, if a given solid3d object is a sphere or otherwise. The code snippet is pasted here for reference:

bool bContainsSphere = false;
foreach (ObjectId Id in Ids)
{
  DBObject oObject = ts.GetObject(Id, OpenMode.ForRead);
  if (oObject.GetType().Name == "Solid3d")

trying to find a .net DWG viewer component that actually works.  I tried DWG Viewer from SkySoft and cannot get it to register in VS 2010, I downloaded and installed SolidWorks eDrawings viewer and tried to use that.  I could not get that to register and place the control on the toolbox.  I also tried TrueView and I'm beginning to thing it can't be done.    It seems like this should be fairly easy but it's not.

All I want is to be able to display the .dwg drawing on a Windows form.  I have a .net WinForms app that I would like to show the drawing to the user.  I already have the bitmap preview and would like something larger.

I am using Visual Studio 2010 on a Win 7 64bit machine.

AutoCad :: Finding The Right Scale For Plotting

Apr 15, 2011

I am attempting to plot a site plan for a large single family home property (2 lots at 200'x329') to an ARCH D (24x36) sheet and have set up the paper space and a title block template to fit this. I set up a new viewport inside the tile block template to take up all the open space inside it.

Our professor provided us the survey from which we're doing our drawings and has asked for us to plot in 1:20 scale(1"=20'), so I have input 1:240 (1" = 240") in the layout scale menu. The site plan to be plotted fits, but much too small to be acceptable. It takes up only maybe a third of the viewport, when it should fill the viewport (the sheet) for the most part.

AutoCAD Architecture :: Arc Discretion In Sections

May 27, 2013

I'm using "horizontal section" to make plan drawings of 3D circular columns in an xref-ed drawing. In the x-ref the columns exist as 3D solids made from extruded circles.

Regardless of my VIEWRES setting, the resulting 2D circle discretion is way too coarse and is presented as a polygon on my drawings.

The same applies to solids made in the same drawing, by the way, so I don't think the xref-ing has anything to do with it. Is there a to adjust this for sections?

AutoCAD Inventor :: DWG Sections Disappear

Apr 24, 2013

We're using Inventor to model complex bridge structures. We take sections, plans, elevations etc. from the model to AutoCAD.dwg format. We then open the .dwg and insert the view blocks in model space, these files are then used as xrefs in AutoCAD, long winded but a supply chain requirement.

The models and xrefs are all saved on our network, no vault used, no windows syncing.

To create the sections we have a separate part file that contains sketches where we want the sections taken, this is placed in our assembly. The sketches are all straight lines (no cranks) and included in the .dwg and selected to create the sections.

We're experiencing a significant number of files that when we open to update the model views we randomly get an error "valid section line not found" and several of the sections disappear. The section lines part file is fine, the section lines are all still there and unchanged.
