AutoCad 2D :: Editable Scale Bar Block
Mar 30, 2011
I am trying to make a scale bar block that allows user to input the scale and it automatically populates the scale bar numbers. Note, I do not want to do a dynamic block with a list of preset scales that toggle visibility; I want the user to be able to input one field and have all the respective scale bar values calculated and updated based on that number.
I am having a problem making the numbers update correctly. The block has one attribute - "mainscale" - where a user can enter the desired scale, default is 1000. The mtext contain a field with a formula - the formula has a field targeting object-> "mainscale" -> value property, and divides it by 100 for 2nd bar value, by 50 for 3rd bar value, etc (to achieve the 10, 20, 30 when default value is 1000).
When I change the default value of "mainscale" within the block editor, the mtext values update correctly after a regen. However when out of the block editor, after changing the "mainscale" value and regen the scale values do not update.
What am I missing to make the fields update on a regen when the attribute value is changed? Or Is there some other way to create the scale bar with user input?Do I need to use scripts to make this work?

When I try to edit a particular Xref in a drawing, I get a message saying:-
Selected Xref Block is NOT editable.
Is there a setting somewhere that controls this?

I've created a titleblock with a menu to select sheet size, a single set of attributes that serve all the different sheets, but now I'm trying to find a way to add a table.
The table is to sit above the title box and include information on: New revision number
Text detailing changes since the last revision (might be single or multiple line text)
Date of new revision . The bottom line needs to sit flush to the top of the title block so the top line would be moving up the sheet as new lines are added if that makes sense?

I have a block that i would like to scale based on the plot scale when plotting.
We set up our drawings full size and occasionally we want to plot them at half size. We do this by setting the plot scale to 1:2 (custom) in the plotting dialog. We have a few blocks that we want to print at the same size on paper, essentially become twice as big.
Is there is a way to fix the size or just set a few scale states and have them automatically adjust based on the plot scale (not drawing/annotative scale)?

I have a group of blocks, when I click the blocks I get the editable attribute pop-up box. I can now enter a text of my liking.
I have now made a dynamic block of these blocks, with a visibility states dropdown. So that only one block is shown at a time and when I need to change it I copy the block and use the dropdown button to select the one I need.
The problem I have is that the when I click the blocks from the dropdown only one of them allows me to use the editable attribute pop up window. The others say 'The selected block has no editable attributes'.
If I can't have multiple blocks with editable attributes in one dynamic block or if I can and have done something wrong.
I've attached the block so you can see what I mean. Single Socket allows editable attributes others wont.

I am making a template file having title block with fields. I use this template for creating layouts and sheets using Sheet Set Manager and the fields will be updated from the data of SSM. Now i would like to add a dynamic north block to my template. The block could be rotated (i have this block in file itself) and rotation angle could be inserted. Now how can i add a custom field to SSM so that i could set a rotation angle for the project and thus every new layout or sheet created using the template has the north block rotated with the angle mentioned in SSM.
Here is the file...........

A simple editable mesh object, a piece of terrain, which has standard texture on it an no modifiers, just some UV's on channel 1.
Whenever I add "edit poly" modifier or convert it to editable poly, additional geometry will be created. Statistics show that only vertex count of the selected object goes up about 6x but no additional faces are generated. This not the case when check on a sub-object level, there are lot of additional faces created. I've never seen this happen, jumping between edit poly and edit mesh has been easy without any errors like this.
I've tried the same model with 2013 as well - same results. Also tried collapsing the object, removing uv-mapping, different materials, attaching the mesh to empty box, etc, garbage collection, exporting it to obj and importing - even then same thing happens.

Is there a way to scale a block?
I want to create an iPart from a block..
I want to just apply one dimension to the overall width of the block.
I know the best way would be to properly constrain it, but it's a very complicated shape that came from Adobe Illustrator so I'd rather just have it locked in proportion inside a block.

I'm working with two different drawings to import Layers for Lot Grading and when I'm importing the Block Reference from the origin file, it's setup as Linescale 0.5, but when I import into my regular basemap, which is setup for Linescale 1, the text size is double what it should be.

Using ACAD 2013 64 bits. I am trying to insert a block created in inches (by another company), in a drawing created in meters, but it is not working. This is the initial setup: Block-drawing's units are set to inches, type Architectural. My drawing's units are set to meters, type decimal. So far so good, I guess. Then, I proceed to open my drawing, execute the insert block command and select the Block-drawing. Once selected, I can see in the dialog box . Block unit clearly reading inches and the correct scale factor of 0.0254. However, when click OK, the drawing is huge. I check it's properties and the block's geometry is correctly set at an insertion scale of 1, 1, 1; but, in Misc, the block unit is now "meters" and the unit factor is "1"! This means that one inch equals one meter. This does not happen when I create the blocks; in those cases it works as it should.

On some of my blocks i have started using quiet a few parameters, Although i have noticed on the blocks that have scale and flip, it goes wrong. is there a way i can get the flip parameter to follow the center of the block after scaling?
similar with a block of a door in plan, i have got the rotate working, and the scale to fit the door opening, but if i rotate first the scale parameter don't follow the rotation of the door making it difficult to then scale the block from the using the block parameters!

One of the guys here has created a title block which has a scale field in it, this field reads the scale at which the title block is brought in, by use of an invisible attribute (he used the block in model space so that's why I scale them up). When he xref the dwg into my main drawing all is fine and the scales are as they should be but when he prints, the scales all show 1:1 on the print and in the main drawing. Could this be due to the fact that the xref is brought in at 1:1? But we can't see why this would change it as the block is obviously still at e.g. 1:50 in the xref.

I've been working on several projects that require drafting in metric units and I'm having difficulty inserting block dwgs. into my working drawing at the correct scale.
My block drawing is set to millimeters. I've drawn my block and measured it. All is ok.
UNITS = milimeters; INSUNITS = 4
My working drawing is in millimeters. All line work is dimensioning accurately.
UNITS = milimeters; INSUNITS = 4
When I insert the block, it comes in extremely small. When I click on the block properties, it says it's units are in millimeters and the scale is 1. As it should be correct? except for the fact that its about 25x smaller then it should be. This leads me to believe there is an inch insertion factor some where.
To add to the conundrum, if I xref the block dwg into my working file, it comes in at the correct size. Is there an alternative block insertion scale factor setting that I'm not seeing?

how do you get the scale to show up properly in the title block? I've been searching and finding nothing on this issue, with exception of Autodesk personnel telling users to use the scale display on the views. I know it's not the "Autodesk way" of doing things, but my company has been putting the main view scale in the title block for over 30 years.
I've been using Patrick de Stobbeleir's "iProperty Collection" utility since Inv11, and it does the job. The thing that bugs me, though, is that I can't figure out how to get the FirstViewScale:x custom properties to work intelligently in my title blocks. I just use the property FirstViewScale in my title block, which displays the scale of the first view put down...no matter what the sheet.
how I can use the FirstViewScale:x property in title blocks such that x is the sheet number? So far we just have the first sheet use the FirstViewScale, and then subsequent sheets use a prompted entry (I know it's an ugly work-around).

I am attaching my dynamic block that I am having difficulty finalizing. My goal is to be able to stretch or resize the hvac block, based on the size that is provided to me (ala 24x24, 36x36, 48x72, etc) (Stretch Action), I have that figured out, and I have the symbol in the center that stays centered as the block size changes, (Move Action).
Here is my problem, I want the symbol in the center to stay centered and scale based on a ratio as the overall size gets larger. So for example: if my size is a 24"x24" I want the symbol in the center to be approx 12" dia, but if the size gets up to say 60"x60" I want it to scale accordingly (so it could be like 48" dia), specifically maintaining the size based on the x axis, so if the it gets to a 60x72", I'd like it to still be centered but size according to the 60 width, and not stretch and look awkward. I want the center symbol to scale and stay centered in the rectangle as I scale the size.

we have a rectangle 0,0 - 200,100 with a triangle inside 0,0 - 100,100 - 200,0
[/] <- for example
A dynamic stretch action is applied to the x of the rectangle, how do you scale/stretch the triangle with the rectangle and only on the x axis, so the triangle remains symmetrical from the middle of the rectangle on the y axis even when the rectangle is stretched?
Looking for a solution that doesn't involve inserting the block and scaling?
