AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: How To Create A Dynamic Block That Changes In Scale
Jul 27, 2011I am looking to create a dynamic block that changes in scale, ex. If I have two (2) viewports in paper space, one 1/4"=1'-0" the other 1/8"=1'-0" I want my blocks to appear to be the same size in paper space.
Also, I would like my blocks to change attributes/features ex. If I have a "light switch block" I would like to have the option of switching the block from a 3-way switch, 4-way switch etc.

Apr 18, 2011On some of my blocks i have started using quiet a few parameters, Although i have noticed on the blocks that have scale and flip, it goes wrong. is there a way i can get the flip parameter to follow the center of the block after scaling?
similar with a block of a door in plan, i have got the rotate working, and the scale to fit the door opening, but if i rotate first the scale parameter don't follow the rotation of the door making it difficult to then scale the block from the using the block parameters!
AutoCAD 2010 :: Creating Dynamic Block With Scale Action
Apr 17, 2013I am attaching my dynamic block that I am having difficulty finalizing. My goal is to be able to stretch or resize the hvac block, based on the size that is provided to me (ala 24x24, 36x36, 48x72, etc) (Stretch Action), I have that figured out, and I have the symbol in the center that stays centered as the block size changes, (Move Action).
Here is my problem, I want the symbol in the center to stay centered and scale based on a ratio as the overall size gets larger. So for example: if my size is a 24"x24" I want the symbol in the center to be approx 12" dia, but if the size gets up to say 60"x60" I want it to scale accordingly (so it could be like 48" dia), specifically maintaining the size based on the x axis, so if the it gets to a 60x72", I'd like it to still be centered but size according to the 60 width, and not stretch and look awkward. I want the center symbol to scale and stay centered in the rectangle as I scale the size.

A dynamic stretch action is applied to the x of the rectangle, how do you scale/stretch the triangle with the rectangle and only on the x axis, so the triangle remains symmetrical from the middle of the rectangle on the y axis even when the rectangle is stretched?
Looking for a solution that doesn't involve inserting the block and scaling?
AutoCad :: Dynamic Block Scale Action Not Working Properly
Apr 11, 2013I have this simple dynamic block that is to change from 4" to 6" to 8" square. I have a linear parameter, 0 grips, and a Lookup function for 4, 6 or 8. It is supposed to scale about the midpoint (insertion point). I have tried both the Midpoint and Startpoint settings for Base Location but it always seems to scale from the far left of the Linear Parameter.

Apr 25, 2013I am currently using Autocad 2014 and I am attempting to insert a dynamic block from a tool palette. I would like to click on a dynamic block in the tool palette and have it prompt for the (uniform) scale. It seems simple enough but either all the dynamic properties are lost or it is inserted at 1"x1" (the scale of my original block). How to get this to work?

Jun 3, 2013I have a block that I want to show on a vertical exaggeration of 10x. How do I make it so that a block has a Y scale of 10 without the attribute text inside the block being stretched in the Y direction 10x?
I would like to use a Y scale of 10 rather than a block with 10x the length because I have a field that returns a length parameter and I don't want that value to be 10x what it's supposed to be, and it would make things much easier to not have to multiply my values by 10x each time I use the block.

Sep 27, 2013Any way to get a scale bar/title block text to reflect plotting at half size?
We use the common (24x36) sheet size for all projects, but when plotting we send out half size (12x18) as well. This means the scale bar reading 1"=40' is no longer correct. It should read 1"=20'. I would like to automate this.

Mar 14, 2009Is it possible to create a scale bar block that will grab the scale of the drawing and update itself if the scale is changed? I attached a screen shot of our scale bar.
What I'd like it to do is label 0, 100 (1/2 drawing scale), 200 (drawing scale) and 400 (2 times the drawing scale)
And I'd like those values to change depending on the scale of the drawing. I'm not too sharp on blocks, dynamic blocks, annotative blocks etc. I'm just inheriting a bunch of LDD 2004 blocks that I'd like to modify into something that does the work for me with Civil 3D. Is this possible or realistic? Is this going to be a dynamic, annotative block or just a dynamic block? What is a good approach?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Dynamic Block Text
Apr 17, 2013Is it possible to have a dynamic block with text which, when inserted into a drawing, will show the text orientation matched to the layout? I have a non-dynamic block which is simply a do-nut and a piece of text. When I insert it into a drawing, the text orientation will change to suit the orientation of the layout.
I created another block with the same entities but I also added a couple of lines extending out from the center of the do-nut. I added stretch and rotation actions in order to rotate and stretch the lines. I also gave the block visibility states so that either one or two lines would appear (the block is a utility pole,by the way, with the lines representing guy wires). When I insert the dynamic block into a drawing, I cannot get the text to match the orientation of the viewport. I've tried changing different combinations of settings but the text won't appear horizontal.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Dynamic Block (Spline Arrow)
Jun 12, 2012Well I created this dynamic block, and within the block is a pull-down to change the style of arrow from a custom version to spline or straight. Everthing works fine and look great in the drawing. But when I use the the Spline arrow it will show up correct graphically but will plot as two straight lines with an arrow which totally defeats the purpose. I have attached the block here. I checked this on C3D11 and LDD08 and they both have the same issue so it's more than likely an ACAD thing.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: 2013 Odd Block (scale Window) Bogs Down Drawing
Feb 12, 2013We have a large project that we converted from 2012 to 2013 - it had always been a little buggy in 2012 as it was a piece together from another consultant. Now though, it is extremely slow and there seems to be a 'block reference' around every block in the drawing. You can drag your select window and they all pop up like crazy and slow things down immensely (see screen capture). You can select them individually, they have nodes on all 4 corners and to move them, scales your block up and down. I tried block replace to our blocks which we know are fine and same problem. It also seems to be drawing specific although audit is clean.

Oct 25, 2013I am trying to have a block scaled on import baised on the elevation of the point. I already use description key sets to scale blocks in import to parameters added to the code libary, for example; "Pole 0.31" draws a circle with a diameter of .31 meters.
Is there a way where I would be able to scale a block on import based on the elevation of the object? For example, a point's elevation is 1.7m, so on import it would scale a block by 1.7 on the x/y axis. Ideally if I were to modify the datum of the points the blocks would automatically scale, but that is more of a pipe dream.
We import the data from a trimble r8 rover and convert the file to a FBK file before importing the survey data.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Dynamic Block - Unable To Get Text Orientate To Horizontal Position In Viewports
Jul 10, 2012I made a simple block for a utility pole in plan view. It consisted of a donut with one string of mtext beside it. I had created it so that the text would orientate itself to be horizontal in each viewport regardless of the ucs angle. I later added a line for a guy wire and made the block dynamic with visibility states. Now I am unable to have the text orientate to a horizontal position in the viewports.

Sep 20, 20131. What is the easiest way to find points that are not constrained? I get a notice that the block is not fully constrained and its a nightmare going through all the lines trying to find where I need to apply a constarinet.( I can't wait to get off ACAD and back to Inventor.)
2. When I try to save a dynamic block using the Save Block icon under Open/Save, if the dynamic block is not fully constrained, and I click save, when I reopen the block to edit all of my constraints are gone, this has happened twice. Now I just exit by Xing out and saving changes.

Mar 22, 2013So I've done a reasonable amount of work with dynamic blocks. I have a block with a rotation action and grip to arbitrarily align it. However I realized when trying to combine it with an alignment grip (which actions on the basic or fundamental block rotation angle) that there didn't seem to be a way to some how link a dynamic block rotation action or one of the custom angle properties to a the fundamental block rotation angle. Thus there are two additive rotations at work; the dynamic block one with its grip and the fundamental rotation property.
This can cause some confusion when one person aligns with the grip and another via rotating the block's fundamental property and would also be problematic in the generalized sense if one was trying to select or programmatically read back the net angle alignment.

Jul 25, 2012new to dynamic blocks but looking to streamline my wiring diagrams here and have created a block that shows the typical wire styles we use in a simple easy way. I now want to add an overall flip to the entire block and have not been able to find set this. I would prefer to use the same label and go from there. I have included the block to show what I mean. It is only working on the single visible item at the one time. I know this has to be possible just let me know what I am doing wrong. I am running AutoCad LT 2013

Feb 28, 2012I need to create a dynamic block for a "Glass Panel" in a balustrade. I need to be able to insert it, in one corner and stretch it in another corner, to suit the staircase angle.
I've created the block, but it isn't working correctly. I've attached a drawing, with the left hand drawing a sketch of how it needs to be. The right hand drawing is my dynamic block attempt. As can be seen, when the block is stretched between the 2 points, it doesn't follow the angle of the staircase correctly (Very slight run off)

Nov 21, 2011I wish to create a dynamic block containing some attributes. These attributes are inside rectangles that can't be modified in length using linear parameters ; but the attribute has to be always in the middle of the rectangle. So, I draw a line inside the rectangle (in a hidden layer) and insert the attribute with center justification (not sure for the translation) that I place in the middle of this line ; then I put a coincidence constraint (not sure for the translation, but it's the first one) linking the middle of the line with the middle of the attribute.
But here's the problem : when stretching my rectangle, the insertion point of the attribute suddenly changes from "center" to "bottom left".

Dec 4, 2013I am looking for a way to use the ATTIN/ATTOUT workflow to bring in data from an excel spreadsheet to drive the size of each of my block's instances. The block will be simple, a rectangle, with width and length parameters. For each entity in my excel/csv file these parameter values are spelled out. I know how to display these parameters in my attributes, but I don't know how, if I were to feed in these values, to drive the geometry. If there's a better way to take a list of width and length values to generate a series of blocks each with a rectangle containing its respective size.

Nov 7, 2011I need to do some repetitive task on a lot of dynamic blocks, unfortunately, when I open each file, AutoCAD keeps asking if I want to open it with the block editor.
Is there a way to disable that dialog and open the files as normal dwgs?
A hint: BLOCKEDITLOCK doesn't make it, it shows another dialog...

Mar 26, 2012I'm trying to make a dynamic block of a column radiator.
It should be very simple. It's a 46mm wide module that comes in a range of heights (300, 500, 600, & 750mm) and a range of assembly widths (9, 13, 18, 22 & 27 modules wide - more commonly given as mm widths of 414, 598, 828, 1012 & 1242 respectively).
My attempt at constructing it has gone quite well, but when 'stretching' the block a ghost of the core 414 (w) x 300 (h) unit remains. I attach the block to give you a better idea of what I mean.

Jul 16, 2010I have a drawing ("SURUBURI.dwg") with several dynamic blocks ("M12", "M16", "M18" ... an so on...). I want to insert in my current drawing, one of the blocks from SURUBURI.dwg, for instance the block named "M12".
For that i tried creating a new command "INSERT_M12" that has the following script :
^C^C-INSERT; "I:/Ionut Mihaila/Goodies/SURUBURI.dwg/M12"
Now obvious that doesn't work, but i think it shows clearly what i want to accomplish. So is there an other way to do this?

Feb 4, 2011I have successfully created a dynamic block. I can insert it into AutoCAD, and it behaves like I want, except for one thing.
I can select the block and change it by taking a grippoint and place it at another position. So my block is e.q. stretched, just like I wanted.
But then. When I want to use the ordinary STRETCH command of AutoCAD, I can only stretch the insertion point of the block, but not the grippoints. Is there a way to set a grippoint to be select edable by commands like STRETCH.
