AutoCAD Civil 3D :: View - Visualization Of Corridors With Multiple Baselines Or Intersections

Aug 28, 2012

I created a simple roundabout in Civil3D with the intent on visualizing the corridor in 3DS Max Design using the Civil View plugin. The corridor rendered complete in Civil 3D, but there are large corridor gaps in Civil View. They all appear to be at the location of corridor baseline boundaries. Obviously this is a non-starter, as 3DS Max is supposed to improve the visual quality, not reduce.

Attached are some sample images of the roundabout in Civil3D and in 3DS Max Design.

I am using Civil 3D 2012 and 3DS Max Design 2012.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Shortcut / Routine Required To Create Multiple Surface Intersections At Once

Jul 2, 2012

I am doing bulk earthworks with C3D 2013 and quite often I am modeling large dam walls with multiple raises, core sections, filter layers, etc so I end up with up to 50 surface models in one drawing. The process I follow involves modeling each raise of the wall by targeting an elevation 10 metres or so below NSL. I then use a volume surface to give me the intersecting boundary between the topography surface and the wall raise surface. I repeat this process for each raise/core/filter section - create volume surface to find intersection, extract boundary of intersecting volume surface, add boundary to wall raise surface, put both on a unique layer calculate volume - repeat for next wall raise - ad nauseum.

To speed things up a previous draftsperson created a shortcut button on the ribbon that does the volume surface trick with one click so all i need to do is hit the button, select topo, select wall raise and it gives me the volume surface between the two, all i need to do is extract the border and add it as an outer boundary to the wall raise. I would like to take this to the next level if possible and this is where I an stuck.

If my drawing consisted of a topography surface and "X" number of wall raise surfaces all named in a uniform fashion ascending numerically or alphabetically would it be possible to write a routine/shortcut button that did the following;

1.) Create a volume surface between topo & wall surface 1 - extract border as polyline - add polyline as outer     boundary to wall surface 1 - move both wall surface 1 and newly created boundary polyline to unique layer.

2.) Repeat process for topo and wall surface 2

3.) Repeat process for topo and wall surface 3

.....and so on until all wall surfaces have had volume surfaces created between them and the topo?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Adding Points To A Surface?

Apr 24, 2013

I have created a surface with a point group.  I have a few points on the edge of my surface that need to be added to the surface.  I can add them to the point group, but when I updated my surface nothing happens.  The triangles don't extend to my newly added points and my profile of the area doesn't show a surface where these new points should be. the new points I want to add have the same properties as the other points in the point group, they are cogo points.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Adding Very Large Points Files

Aug 19, 2012

I have some very large comma delimited ENZ files that I wish to create point clouds from. When I try to read points into a points cloud from this file I get "an error occurred in data processing" after a few seconds.

Since the error occurs early on, I was assuming C3D is getting hung up because of the first row of the file which contains an "x,y,z" header. The text files (around 270MB) are too large to open in wordpad, excel or similar, so I'm not aware of any way to edit or delete this line. To counter this I tried creating a new point file format using "x" as the comment tag (and setting all the other parameters as required. This "parsed" properly when testing on the file, however when I tried to import either as points or into a point cloud I still get the same error as above.

Is the file size/number of points too large for C3D or is it some other problem?

AutoCad 2D :: Dimensioning With Ordinates - Multiple 0,0 Points Of Reference?

Dec 13, 2013

I will receive printed out drawings that are entirely drawn with the use of ordinates, putting the 0,0 point in the corner of the part, and dim everything from that corner. Like this example:

The problem I'm having is when I recreate the parts digitally and have multiple parts to dimension, I can do one that looks as clean as the ordinate version, but the rest are dimensioned using the baseline tool, and look like this:

Though it works, it takes a while to make it nice and legible for my print out version. And most the time the parts are more organic and don't have any corners, but this is the best example for my question.

I know I can't have multiple 0,0 points in model space, but I was hoping there would be a better way to achieve the clean look of the ordinate points. Or perhaps create a reference point that can be duplicated, moved, and the ordinates will recognize.

Note: As much as I'd like to use paper space to dimension my parts, I can't.

Mudbox :: Radial Symmetry - Adding Stroke Points?

Dec 21, 2010

Does Mudbox 2011 have anything comparable to the radial symmetry function in ZBrush? Specifically, the ability to designate N number of points along a mirrored axis, not just mirroring a single stroke along one axis. I thought perhaps this was called something else in Mudbox and that was why I have not been able to find it.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Batch Create Points Along Multiple Polylines

Oct 9, 2013

I have the need to put COGO points along the vertices of multiple 3D polylines in a DWG.  I know how to do this individually for each 3DPL via the "Points>Create - Miscellaneous > Polyline Vertices - Automatic" or "CREATEPTPLYLNCTRVERTAUTO" command. Need tip on how to do this in a batch format for all the selected 3D PLines in the drawing without having to select each individual 3DPL and having to hit return to enter a description for each individual vertex?  I can do without having to add a description and can leave each description blank or enter the same description for each.

I'm Using C3D2013.

Additionally, is it possible to Group multiple layers into a single layer, for example the above 2 layers circles and geometries and into a third or fourth layer.

Today no matter what I do when the tracker jumps to the second selected position it just jumps off screen. It even does this if I dont use the add function and stop a track, move to new location and hit snap? Whats up with that?

AutoCad 3D :: Intersections Of 2 Arcs?

Jul 25, 2012

1st let me preface this with the fact that I know zilch, nada, nil about solid modeling. But I think the easiest way to accomplish what I'm trying to do is thru solid modeling and export the end result as (3D) polyline

What I have is 2 intersecting arcs with varying radii and ucs values. I'm guessing these could turned into regions and then subtract 1 from the other in order to find a list of intersecting points or maybe a splined pline. Or maybe they could be joined. Either way, if I DXFOUT the solids in R12 format, they become plines

I have access to R14 thru 2012

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Rotate Multiple Text Objects 180 While Retaining Individual Insertion Points?

Feb 14, 2013

I have numerous text objects I want to rotate 180 while retaining each text objects insertion point.  There's got to be an easy way to do this.

Long explanation:  I created an annotation template to label pipe diameters on an imported shapefile.  Everythings good, labels are parallel with lines, except for the fact that some labels are upside down.  Is there an expression that would eliminate this?  In my annotation template, my rotation expression equals the "angle" field of the object.  My "quick and dirty" fix was to burst the annoation labels, and manually rotate necessary text, which wasn't a huge headache since I'm dealing with a relatively small number of labels, but in the future I might have hundreds of upside down labels.
