AutoCad 2D :: Dimensioning With Ordinates - Multiple 0,0 Points Of Reference?
Dec 13, 2013I will receive printed out drawings that are entirely drawn with the use of ordinates, putting the 0,0 point in the corner of the part, and dim everything from that corner. Like this example:
The problem I'm having is when I recreate the parts digitally and have multiple parts to dimension, I can do one that looks as clean as the ordinate version, but the rest are dimensioned using the baseline tool, and look like this:
Though it works, it takes a while to make it nice and legible for my print out version. And most the time the parts are more organic and don't have any corners, but this is the best example for my question.
I know I can't have multiple 0,0 points in model space, but I was hoping there would be a better way to achieve the clean look of the ordinate points. Or perhaps create a reference point that can be duplicated, moved, and the ordinates will recognize.
Note: As much as I'd like to use paper space to dimension my parts, I can't.

Jul 29, 2013In AutoCAD leader settings you can set the number of point so the leader looks standard. I am searching for this in inventor and am coming up empty. I have seen other engineering drawings where I can tell that the generated data in the balloon was entered from the parts column in the B.O.M. But instead of part numbers, I have seen text. and I have mine set up to generate the Balloons that way but I do not like the leader type it is giving me. The attachment is what my leaders are looking like in inventor.

However, the mtext entity always moves position slightly (compared to the original text entity) after converting the object. better lisp that converts multiple text entities into mtext entities (which are all separate still, i.e. not joined together) without the position of the entity changing?

This would be the part in a three point leader that goes horizontal for a short distance before the label text begins, similar to how a multi-leader is created. Looks weird having the C3D labels be the only "leadered" noted be without the landing.

May 31, 2012I currently have 2007 installed on my computer and we just upgraded 2 of our seats to 2013. Can I install 2013 and still have 2007 on the computer? Will that screw up running either one? Will they conflict each other? I will eventually uninstall the 2007 version, but want to get 2013 up and running quickly.

Mar 18, 2013I seem to be having an issue publishing multiple layouts into a single PDF.
All the layouts are setup to plot to 'Adobe PDF' and in the Publish options I have set 'Publish to: Plotter named in page setup' as well as 'Multi-sheet file'. When I click OK I'm prompted for the filename for each layout and have to save them as separate files.
The only time it does work is when I choose 'Publish to: PDF' which I guess uses AutoCAD's internal 'DWG to PDF' method. Is my preferred method an Adobe issue or is it fixable through AutoCAD?

Feb 12, 2013except for the quantity of the line . the case is I was taught to make a title block tempelate. For each single item, like text"STUDENTS NAME " or "PART NMAE" , and inluding the attributes, I was instructed to use single line text instead of mutliple line. I was told that single line won't change. What does it mean it won't change?
I feel that single line is more precisely controlled ,while the multiple line text is more ofen used in puting the notes in a drawing. But in what case use what I am confuesd. Especailly when make the tible block, It seems to use the single line text is the unique way to make each feature in its status.

Aug 9, 2011The drawing I just finished and need to plot is 19"L x 9-1/2"H. The printer I have here only does 8-1/2x11 sheets.
How do I plot this drawing on a 1:1 scale so it will print on multiple sheets of 8-1/2x11 to make the single complete drawing? I've tried changing the plot setting but guess I'm over my head.

If I mask one area in model space, then I try to mask another, clicking no delete of previous boundary, it still won't let me do it. I need to mask many small pieces of an xref in the model space.

AutoCad 3D :: Multiple Layers Moved To A Single Layer?
Jul 6, 2011I'm working on a drawing and I need to take multiple layers that I have drawn (which make up one unit) and basically merge them together so that I can replicate and move them about and place them where they need to go in the larger unit that they live in.
I tried playing with grouping in the Layers Manager, but that doesn't seem to be doing anything for me. Not sure if I'm just doing something wrong, or if there is another way to go about this.
I'm attaching my CAD drawing so you can see what I'm up to. In this drawing, there are basically two groups of layers. Those that make up the Control Tower itself, and another group for what's called a Tajimi Rack. I need to have all the layers for the Tajimi Rack made as one so that I can move that object around without having to move the layers one at a time. (There is a lot more that needs to drawn into the Tajimi Rack, but once I know how to merge them all together, I'll be in a good position to carry forward.)
I also need to know how to then take that new Tajimi Rack layer and duplicate it (I'm looking to place about a dozen of the Tajimi Racks in the control tower.
FWIW, I'm a self taught CADer. By that I mean I have to use CAD in my job but it's always done in a 2D setting where I'm simply looking through roofs with other drawings laid under for rigging purposes. Dec 17, 2012I have floorplans from a building with a total of 80 appartments. Now i want to plot PDFs in A3 format, each page with 1 appartment. That would be 80 pages/PDF-files.
The way i did it up to now was i have put all A3 pages in a single layout and used the Window-function in the Plot dialog to print each page individually, manually numbering the file-names, and combining files in Acrobat as needed.
But doing this for 80 pages is too much - especially because i will likely have to plot it more often in the future. As far as i can see, i could make 80 layouts and use the Publish function, make a sheet-list and plot that way.
I keep wondering - is there not a more efficient solution to this problem than creating 80 layouts? There must be a more intelligent solution to this. Whats the preferred way of doing this?
P.S. i use AutoCAD2007 and Acrobat for plotting.
