AutoCAD .NET :: Add Layer Description To Layer Dropdown List
Mar 22, 2010
Is there a way in .net to add the layer description field (viewable in the Layer Properties Manager menu) to the layer dropdown list? Our designers want to see this information without opening the Layer Properties menu.
you can match the layer filters with in the layer manager to the drop down on the ribbon..so how do i get the to match so the filter im viewing in the manager is what i see in the ribbon.
My layer Control dropdown isn't working. It's showing only the current layer. If I select an object on another layer, it'll display that layer and the current layer only in the dropdown.I've tried using the PICKFIRST setting, but this makes no difference.
I have been having problems using my layer toolbar dropdown menu. My drop down bar will show the current layer or the current layer and the layer of a selected object. I need to open the Layer Properties Manager in order to turn on/off or freeze/thaw other layers. It seems to happen the most when I have external references loaded into the drawing.
Also, the Layer Properties Manager has a few quirks. If I create a new layer, it will not record changes to the layer color, linetype, etc on the first try. I can make these changes, but when I close the Layer Properties box, all of the changes are lost. I need to reopen the Layer Properties Manager and make the changes again.
The Layer Properties Manager also seems to have a glitch where it will deselect from the manager back to the drawing without a mouse click. Also, when I click once on an external reference layer to select, it tells me I cannot modify this layer. I would assume this would pop up if it were a double click action for modification, but it does this after a single click.
It seems that there are some major glitches with the Layer Properties Manager.
I just upgraded to 2013 and have noticed that when using the dropdown layer control in the classic layer toolbar the mouse cursor changes from an arrow to the blue spinning circle to indicate its busy.
Why? and is there any way to fix this. You can still turn layers on and off and it reacts normally otherwise but it does make it harder to select the little lightbulb and freeze icons on the left.
Why does the layer control toolbar always state the Xref layers by default. Is there a workaround, or a setting so the layers of the current drawing are displayed by default?
how to bring the layer description with the translation. For example one client uses the names of level 1, level 2 etc. What is on the layer is the description for expamle LEVEL 1 / BORDER. when I translate it oputs the layer name as the description.
I'd like to add Layer descriptions , but I cannot seem to get out of the "D"escription option when the script runs so I get the some crazy descriptions. Is there a special key stroke to get to the next line to "M"ake a layer?

It appears that the Layer Filters functionality is broken again with 2013. Unchecking the "Apply layer filter to layer toolbar" disables the function of layer filters in the tool palette.
there's nothing in that dropdown menu for you to select your source image/layer in the Move Path plugin.I am using an XCF (Gimp) file, with many layers. I selected a particular layer, then I opened the Move Path plugin.
While I was trying to do some editing, I've just lost the selections in the layer styles and photo effects drop-down windows while in full edit. I'm using PSE 7 and up until now has been working fine for as long as I've had it. What should I do to get them back or do I have to reload the entire program?
Is there a way to have no layer value set for the description keys. I set all the layers, and now I realize I'd rather set this to no layers (boxes are all unchecked). I'd rather see no value under the layer column, but there doesn't seem like a way to set this.
I have a layer named XYZ, that contains ARC, LINE and POLYLINE. I want to get a list of all linetypes from every ARC, LINE and PLINE. If I open the properties, if I select only the ARC, under linetype I'm getting *Varies*. Instead of*varies*, I would like to have a list of all linetypes (ARC, LINE and PLINE).
Is it possible? WOuld it also be possible to do the same for linescale or weight?
I am using Auto Cad 2011 and I always use the option to 'attach' xrefs. what is the difference between attaching and an overlay? Does one use less memory than the other? When would be the best time to use an overlay?
Also when my new version was installed when I bring in an xref the layers show light (I really like this) another girl in our office has the same version but her layers are still saturated. how does she change it to show ghosted layers in the xref?
is there a way to not have the long list of xref layers when I bring them into a drawing?
Background: We use the same block (symbol) to represent several different part numbers, but would like to select from a drop down list the actual part number. For example, a beacon symbol is the same no matter what color the beacon, but i would like to be able to select a grip and choose red, green, blue, yellow, ect. I don't want it to do anything to the block, but rather just store the property that is set by the user.
I'm using LT2010, my layer list in LT is alphabetical but when I create a pdf- the pdf layer list is not alphabetical. Is there a way to correct his so that the PDF layer list is also alphabetical?
I have a string of 3d solids (cubes if you will) lined up in a row. I have a 3D Polyline starting below each one cube. (each polyline is a different layer name). As the line enters the cube, it then turns left in the center... and goes through the other cubes to its left till it reaches the end. So the left most cube has each line going through it, and the right most cube has only one 3dpolyline. I am looking for a way to create some kind of tangible data I can display, export or extract of what layers are going through cube one if I select it. Same for cube 2, 3, ect...
I have dummied down the example due to having 44 cubes, and not all in a single row, or this question would be an easier answer.
So is there a command, or a lisp routine I can create or manipulate to give layer names that float through a 3D Solid?
Any examples on how to list all the layers of a current drawing and populate a ComboBox on a form with that list. It seems pretty simple, i'm just gonig through the .NET Developer guide now but was hoping there was a quicker solution.
I have created a Textbox with autocomplete (suggest) in my UserControl that is put in an Autodesk.AutoCAD.Windows.PaletteSet. When I move my mouse over the dropdown list with the suggestions from autocomplete the list disappears. This makes it impossible to select a value from the list with the mouse. If I move the mouse cursor anywhere else in the usercontrol except over the dropdown list it stays open. How can this be fixed???
PS! I have added an event handler on textbox.focuslost and it is activated when I move the mouse over the dropdown list, so the textbox loses focus when this happens.
Is there a way I can write some code, so that in idw, I can choose from two different text for "Description" in BOM table? My work place requires to show material information when it's a fabrication drawing, to show part description in assembly drawing in "Description" column.
At the moment, we just override material information (for example, 40x40x3 RHS) to part description (RHS Spreader). It's not very safe to do that. Most of the times, we just forget to change it.

I'm trying to insert a parts list into an assembly drawing but whenever I do all of the descriptive fields (format, zone, item, part number, description, etc, etc) are all in Russian. I've looked on the wiki and it notes that some of this is expected, I just don't think it's correct that all of the above are in a different language.
When I first launch Photoshop and load a preset layer style I can get a full list of available presets to load. After clicking on an element and actually using a layer style on it I no longer can get my full list of available presets to load. The list is cut to 1/3 of the original list.
So the full list is available and in the folder but once using a layer style it seems most of the layers styles disappear from the load menu. I have had no problem with this for months and made no changes over the last few days so this is mind boggling.
I have found that when I use the Layer Styles on one layer and then make a new layer or select a shape that creates a new layer that when I go to add Styles to the new layer/new shape the previous layer is affected by how I set the Bevel & Emboss, Direction, Altitude, Drop Shadow etc etc.
For instance, let's say I have a ...
BG > New Layer > draw an ellipse and then add a Bevel with an > Angle of 89 and an Altitude of 30 and then I add a New Layer > open the Styles and go to change the Angle to say +89 or whatever and the Altitude to say 45 ... the first Layer/Shape Effects change.
How I can keep one Layer from being affected by an other Layers Effects'?
I have found that if I Rasterize a Layer Effect that I can add a "double" effect on the same layer but I haven't tried the to do this with separate layers. However, for most of the work I am doing I cannot use the Raster because everything needs to be true vectors.

Just downloaded Photoshop CC with Photoshop CS6 still installed on my computer. Why working in Bridge I noticed that when right clicking on an image and then the "Open With" link, the only thing showing up is Photoshop CC. It would be nice if CS6 was an option as well. Is there any way to set it so that both are available?
Also, how do I install my Neat Image plug-in in Photoshop CC?
Since installing CS4, there is a new item in the dropdown list when I right-click on my desktop
The new item is "Adobe Drive CS4". It has two items showing under it. They are "Connect to", and "New Project". The "New Project" is greyed out, even when Photoshop CS4 is running.
