AutoCAD Map 3D :: DWG Object Library Drawback Linked FDO?
Nov 7, 2013
I have a dwg object library used in representing a connection with FDO, the downside is that I can not find where it keeps the relationship of the linked objects within the MAP.

For some reason, I can't seem to find all the right steps in the right order to accomplish this. Maybe what I'm trying to do isn't possible.
Using either Map3D 2011 or Map3D 2007:
I have a database (SQL Server) and a drawing (.DWG) with object data fields. For simplicity, lets say the database field names match the object data field names. The key field in the object data is already filled in. I would like to link to the database so the rest of the object data fields are filled from the database. Is this possible? If so, how? The closest I have gotten so far is creating a link template and using mapod2ase, but that creates a separate set of Link Template fields instead of filling in the Object Data fields.

I have 200,000 lines with some object data. LINKED to these lines is a database with some more information. Basically I want to export all of these lines to shape files, converting the information in the linked database to be the new object data. (This is for the client to view the lines on ArcGIS).
I have done this a few times in the past, but working with this volume of lines and data, Its taking an extremely long time.
My question is, could i use autolisp to quickly transfer the database data to object data before i export to shape files? or if there are any other options.

I'm trying to edit our titleblocks. There is information we repeat at the top of the drawing like the drawing name, sheet number, total number of sheets, contract number, etc. It is ridiculous to have to type this information in twice. I tried creating both text and constant attributes at the top and insert field pointing to attributes at the bottom but all I get is ---- when inserted. My inserted field was ->Object->(selected attribute)->Value. I am using version 2011. I would think it should be easy to "repeat" values of attributes inside a block.

This may be a very simple question (or not):
As shown here, I have a Photoshop project that has many layers in it. All of the layers have pretty much the same pictures in it, but with minor differences. I'm trying to find a way to change the color of ALL of the layers without having to go into each individual one.
I want all the layers to have the exact same color different than what is shown.

I have linked a food service RVT model that has 1000+ pieces of specialty equipment. I've copy/pasted the tags from their file to mine. Now I want to be able to type in a tag number and have revit 'zoom to it'. Or I'd like to be able to make a schedule and use 'Highlight' option - but nothing seems to work because the elements are in a linked file.

Is there a way to expose the world coordinates of a linked object like a null?
When you link an object to another it uses its parent space coordinates or coordinates that are relative to the parent. I really need to know the actual world space coordinates.

Working in the CC3D features, I am constantly making changes to my bump map. Every time I step-backwards, or make a significant change to the bump texture (smart object?), CC auto-saves the layer. This specific file is a very very large document (3 gigs in the bump texture layer alone), and the 3D layer has lots of lights and is very complex.
This auto-refresh/update really bogs down the time that it would take me to make my changes. I have a very fast machine (I know it's fast, I dont need to list my specs), and I have all shadows disabled.
How do I disable linked smart-object auto-update/refresh?

I am wanting to use an Autocad table object to display fields from an Access database table that is linked to symbols in my drawing.
My objective is create a database table that has detailed notes for call outs in my drawings and then link my call out blocks to the database table and display the blocks and linked descriptions in an Autocad table. If the notes in the database table are edited the Autocad table updates with the new the description from the database.

We have, as our standard library default dimension style, a 1/32 fractional style, called "1/32-FRACTION". Various Object Types, like Linear Dimension are set to this Object Style. When I create a drawing, then these Object Defaults are in effect.
This means that, doing nothing while executing a dimension command, I get fractional dimensions by default. This works good.
However, sometimes I want to create a drawing where the default dimension style is "X.XXX-DECIMAL" without changing the Object Defaults found in the style library. I've tried to make the changes from within the style library and then save this as a template. However, when I try to make a drawing based on this template, Inventor states that the styles in the template differ from the styles in the library" and then busily goes about undoing what I careful did.
So I'm hoping there is something in the API I can call on to do this with a macro. Is it possible to write a macro that after you start a drawing, flips all the various Object Styles from "1/32-FRACTION" to "X.XXX-DECIMAL"?

My designer has created an Illustrator file on his Mac that has linked images. When he sends me the all the files and I open the ai file in Illustrator CC on my Windows PC, I need to re-link the images. One image can't be found at all.
However, if I open the file in CS4 it finds the linked files no problem.
Is this some bug in Illustrator CC for Windows?

I found an old thread from 2011 about the same problem and the mod reported it to the devs, but as far as I know no solution has ever been offered.(maybe in cs6? we are still using cs5)For one or two layers it's no problem to do it manually, but with say 40 layers with corresponding linked layers we need a better solution.

Describe the advantages and of producing drawings electronically using CAD compared to manual drawings and sketching. When describing the CAD packages used in architecture, mention how they can be linked to other software that can aid the design process of construction.
I've done the first part, not so sure about the second part:

I'm having an issue whenever I link an AutoCAD dwg. I model everything in Max but use AutoCAD line-work as a guide. As of Max 2013, when I do this, I notice that every line linked is divided into six segments. I tried re-loading the linked file setting curve steps to "0" but still no change.
The linking goes well, no problems at all neither at first nor at re-loading time, but it is quite annoying to have all these extra vertices when I'm modelling over the CAD lines.

I have lots of files that are linked either by length, height, etc.. Is there an option to delete all linked parameters. I would also like to keep the part history (cuts and extrudes).
I wonder if there is an option to delete all at once like iLogic option-"delete all rules" or should be deleted individually.

I am trying to convert idw to dwg and dxf format using InventorAPI (TranslatorAddIn). My test.idw document contains 2 sheets with 2 linked bitmap in titleblock. After conversion I get in my output folder:
2 dxf files for each sheet2 dwg files for each sheet8 bitmap files (2 for each format and sheet) The problem is with names of the bitmap files: test1.png, test2.png, ... , test8.png.
It's really hard to say which bitmap is linked to which file. Is the way to handle the naming problem?
The secand problem is if I convert to dwg and dxf in separete folder I have 2 times bimat numberd from 1 to 4. In that case I have naming colision problem but I cannot simply change name of this bitmap because dxf and dwg files keep the reference to that one.
Is any simply way to programmaticaly change the reference to linked bitmap in dwg and dxf files?

I'm using Inventor 2012.

I have been given a set of plans by a client to design a system on. The plans have a lot of layers and information on them that I don't need/want to merge to a base layer. If I click on anything on the plans everything gets select and is layer 0. I originally thought these were just poorly made plans but if I go through the layers in the toolbar and turn them off individually it works.
Its like somehow all the layers have been linked to layer 0 but are actually individual layers .

Is there anyway to make a block with more than one layer linked to it? For example if one wants a hole in "floor layer" to line up with a hole in "roof layer" simultaneously so that if it's moved in one layer it will automatically move it in the other(s) layer(s) since they would be linked. This would save a ton of time since you won't have to turn on different layers and make sure they both line up plum by moving them one by one until they all line up on top of one another in different layers.
In other words I would like to move a hole on a single visible layer that would automatically move the holes on any other layer that are linked or plum to that one visible hole (even if the others are Not visible/turned off or if they are frozen in the view port).

I have set up some autocad tables that are linked to excel data( using relative path) in an Autocad Architecture project template. In the xref dialog box, the data links are show as relative path e.g. ..Standards excel file
After creating a new project from this template and right-clicking in one of the cells which have linked data and selecting "data links" and "open data links file" it opens the template excel file, not the excel file within the project folder.
If I use the xref command, select and right click one of the excel data links and select "open" it does open the correct excel file located in the current project folder.
The xref dialog box does show all the data links as relative path e.g. ..Standardsexcel file.

I have an assembly where I have deleted a component, but it is still linked to the assembly somehow. The part is no longer visible in the model, is missing from the model tree and from the BOM, but it still prompts to save. I have attached screenshots to show what i mean: The file (00017429.ipt) prompting to save, despite not actually being in the assembly (00052857), the parts-only BOM showing that the part is not in the BOM, and the vault tab with the part highlighted.
I don't believe this is vault related because Inventor is prompting to save the 'deleted' file, and pack-and-go also grabs the 'deleted' file.
For the example shown, it is a minor nuisance because it means an extra drawing gets printed when an assembly with this problem gets used. I have just had the same problem happen on another, much more complex assembly and it is causing me major grief.

find way to create linked objects in AutoCad from C#?I mean - for example, circle and some lines lined to this circle:
- If I move line it should be possible to move only one end point of line - second endpoint should be linked to the circle and not moved.
- If I move circle it should be move all endpoints of all lines linked to this circle.
In general I want to create network diagram ("graph" in mathematical terms) from C# code.

I have a new issue that I am unsure what to do about.
This has never occurred with previous version of ACAD and this is the first time I created data links with Autocad 2012, and I am using the same procedure that I have successfully used in the past.
I have data tables linked to excel spreadsheets. I used the "TABLE" button on the ANNOTATE ribbon to place the table, and the layout of the cells assumes the layout of the excel spreadsheet, which is what I want.
As long as I don't Scale the table, I can Update the data table links just fine.
However when I scale the table and then update table links, the table layout changes drastically, and is undesirable.
I have tried locking the cells' but that will not fix the problem.
I want to keep the layout of the table that is assumed when I place the table originally. Is there any way to lock it as such?
