Jan 7, 2014I have made thousands of sheet metal parts and their associated drawings without issue but this time, I made a part and attempted to make a drawing but dimension lines won't attach to certain geometry in the drawing. It acts like it will until I click the second line for the dimension then it errors, telling me the same error message that comes up when you delete a feature that previously had a dimension.
I also can't place an origin for doing a hole chart, for example. It just turns purple and says it isn't attached even though it clearly is.

May 17, 2012I have a problem with Inventor 2013. The dimension lines have disappeared. I've been through all the dimension styles and layers to make sure I hadn't turned one off
All other drawings are fine and if I create another even using the same model it works just fine but I'd rather find out why than re-do the whole drawing.

Dec 13, 2012I have a template IDW that i use for bearings. When I opened it today I noticed that two of the dimension lines were missing. The dimension and arrows are there. I tried deleting them are recreating them with the same result.
The interesting thing is, when I created the dim above the part it was fine, when I dragged it below the part the lines went away. After that no matter were I moved it the lines would not reappear.
I installed SP1 a while ago and just now installed the update to SP1 (DL20857064.zip). It did not fix the problem.

Dec 27, 2012We resently upgraded to Inventor 2013 and since then we have been having an issue of dimension and leader lines being hidden under a text box or some other drawing entity.
This is very confusing since the text box does not have a white out associated with it, nore is there a way to put the test box to the back and dimension lines to the front...
It seems like our puppet masters that program this amassing tool where up to something and didn't quite get there.
IT sure would be nice (or an absolute requirement) that this gets fixed so I don't have to learn new hoops to jump through to get a quality drawing out of Inventor.

Dec 21, 2011I am wondering about something called a "dimbreak" command to break demension lines. I heard it has been used in AutoCad. Is it also something available to Inventor users? I can't find anything when I search for it in Inventor and I need to be able to "explode" or otherwise change my dimensions manually so I can break dimension lines as they pass over other dimension lines.

Jan 10, 2012It shows the old position of lines after a zoom, or rotate or move, etc. And it shows half of my dimension values.
Also I seem to have some ghost projections of assembly parts when I do the assembly tutorials.
Like holes and wire frames on strange places on my screen.
I have to zoom in and out randomly and wish for it to go away at some point..

If IV2010 allows hiding of the DIMENSION lines and ARROWS in an IDW files? I found a thread from 2009 that says it is impossible.
However, I found a way to hide them on some RETRIEVED dimensins, but not on others.
How to MANUALLY, or to create STYLE that hides MY choice of:
1. EXTENSION LINES,
2. DIMENSION LINES,
3. ARROWS

Oct 11, 2011I'm inserting dimensions and the tics keep coming out huge and not on the dimension line, in fact there's one on either side 20 ft out. If I change the drawing scale in the tab at a the bottom the tics get smaller and closer in, but they are still off the dimension string by a long shot.

Nov 7, 2013I have 2 .IGS files (which I also have saved as SLDPRT files) that were drawn for me. I can open .IGS files in my copy Free CAD and the SLDPRT files in an eDrawings viewer.
I have sent the .IGS files to a CNC routing company as I want the shapes to be machined / CNC'd out of wood. However the company is saying the curvers are coming out faceted and asking for 2D DXF files.
Is it possible to convert an IGS file to a DXF files so all the dimension information is maintained?

For example--I draw a rectangle and draw a horizontal dimension across the center of the rectangal. Then I flip the arrows and drag the number to the left outside of the rectangal. I want arrows facing inward from the left and right and the number out to the left. I don't want a line stretched across the center of the rectangal.

I have checked my layers and the dimension lines are not on defpoints, in fact they are on layer 0. AutoCad 2D :: Move Radial Dimension Text Away From Lines
Mar 5, 2013Im trying to move radial dimension text away from the dimension line so I can add in text between the dimension and dimension line.
#1 is the default style
#2 is what happens when I do "Move text only", it moves the dimension line to inside the radial and I do not want that.
#3 is how it looks when I just manually edit the dimension text
#4 is how I want it to look
#4 is a combination of dimension and a manually added leader with the dimension line removed. How can I move the dimension text on a radial without the dimension line automatically moving to the inside? Or is there another way to add in text outside the box while having the dimension text offset from the line?
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Dimension Lines By Picking Points?
Sep 18, 2012Making the switch to Civil 3D. I was previously using 2009, and I could add dimension labels by picking two points (endpoints, intersections, etc.) to get the whole line or just a segment. In Civil 3D 2012, I create styles and add labels through the annotate tab, but I can only selct the line or curve in its entirety. There must be a way to easily label portions of a line or multiple segments as one line.
