I regularly generate models which have a front end (body) of a known shape but differing in size, to a back end (shank) again of a known shape but differing size.
So, is it possible to take pre-drawn blanks of both front end (body) and back end (shank) to join them up to create a new model/part? I'm assuming it's combine bodies but I'm not sure how it works!!
i have been drawing a 3d model and when it comes to dimensioning, i can only do it for the vertical and horizontal distance from the top view. i cant find a way to dimension the thickness of my model from the side or ront view.
how do i change the settings for this..

Initially I was able to accomplish this by binding the linked subcontractor’s model into my project model and then exporting each floor as an individual .IFC file. Within the past couple of weeks my sub-contractor has nested face based families into some of the more compex casework families. These new families are throwing up errors during the binding process that result in the content being deleted. Ultimately looking for understanding these warnings and how to resolve them so that I can continue with the work flow that was initially in place. How to streamline this process in the long run. I started looking into plug-ins or supplemental software that might enable me to merge .IFC’s generated from two different sources. I haven’t had much success.

Typically our castings are made from different materials (Fig-1) and then machining (Fig-2) are created from these castings.
Is creating the casting as an iPart (with different materials) and then deriving the machining from the casting the proper method?
Doing it this way seems to force us into making a machining for each casting material instead of just one machining that is an iPart. How should this be set-up for BOM purposes and for use with Vault (Base Version)?
I am making up some furniture blocks with codes in. When I mirror those blocks the text goes back to front.

When I try to use the Send to Back command (HOME - MODIFY - DRAWORDER) then I get the notification in the Command line: "Command: Unknown command "FRONT". Press F1 for help."

i was asked to assist with plotting some coordinated on a drawing, the catch is i need to re orientate the UCS with Y+ at the top of the screen, X+ to the right, Y- to the bottom and X- to the left..
I managed to get this part right, that was the easy part.....
However when i went to put any Dimension or even Text on the drawing it was Backwards and Upside Down.

Is there another way to do this so I can get perfect alignment for the front and back of the page. Can I do this with Photoshop or should I use a table in Microsoft Word or should I use another program altogether like Adobe Pagemaker or Quarkexpress.

I will copy my selected layers and then want to paste them in place on the selected artboard next to it and often times it pastes it back on the artboard where it copies from. Sometimes the function does what I want, but often times it pastes in a different location, either on the same artboard, or next to the artboard where I want it pasted. It also tends to slightly move the X and Y values (again, sometimes). Each time I go to paste, I am creating a new layer and selecting the artboard where I want everything pasted, but sometimes it works, and other times it doesn't. I am using CS5 on MacBook Pro.

They are slightly off by 2-3 cm on all 4 sides and in betweeen. Extremely frustrating. I tried printing in Photoshops but text is blurry. In Lightroom, Images look absolutely perfect. If they would only line up. Using a Canon MG 6200 if that matters.

I used to go: TOOLS > DRAWING ORDER, in order to bring an object to the back or the front of another object.
Now that we are using AM 2012, I can't find where this command is located.

it's going to be a small square and for the back and cover, I have built a file with photoshop and when I drop it to first page, no way I can "slide" it to cover the entire back+ cover

I'm using CS3 on a Mac.
I outlined my text and subtracted it (and the tree image) from the black background. When I did this both appear thinner - particularly the tree.
If I then take the original version and the new subtracted version, and view them both overlayed one on top of the other in wire frame (outline) mode, there is no difference in the actual lines.
It seems to be a problem with the way illustrator previews the images. This wouldn't concern me, but when I export the file as a jpeg, the lines also appear thinner in the export.
I can create a manual solution by offsetting the path before subtracting, but this isn't ideal.
I have made one part out of 4 different sections. And now I'm trying to combine it into one solid. My thought process was: if I make a derived part out of them it'll automatically make it a solid part. But I'm still having separate surfaces where two should have been united.

I was told when I originally had training on Inventor 2013 that 3d sketches should be avoided where possible.
