AutoCAD Inventor :: Adding Dimensions To Features Outside Of View?

Mar 13, 2013

I'd like to add a dimension from a feature in a detail view to a feature outside the view, exactly like the dimension circled in red below. I cannot find any information on how to do this, but I suspect it is pretty easy!

AutoCAD Inventor :: Adding Dimensions To Detail View

Feb 24, 2012

In my assembly drawing I have been able to add random dimensions anywhere I needed them.

Except for the detail view.  How come I can select the two end points for my dimension, but it wont let me place it?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Array / Pattern Features With Different Dimensions For Each Instance

Sep 19, 2012

I would like to generate a rectangular pattern of extruded tubes which have an internal radius that is proportional to the distance to the centre point of the pattern.  Or in other words tubes which are narrower in the centre, and wider at the exterior.  Is there a way to do this without resorting to creating each tube individually?

More generally, is there a way to parameterise a feature dimension/parameter so that it is a function of spatial position?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Unable To Add Welds After Adding Machining Features

Sep 30, 2011

If certain modelling / sketch features should be avoided under the machining feature group.

I have an assembly file containing three part files, plus a weldment feature and machining features.  In the real world this sub-assembly represents two metal components welded together, of which the third (plastic) component is then inserted, and this is followed by the final machining process - adding the staggered slot (see jpeg 1).

My problem is I get an error message as soon as I try to activate editing the weldment feature group (see jpeg 2).  Clicking ‘Accept’ I can then edit the current weld, but I can not add any new welds.  Inventor will let me choose to place a new fillet or groove weld, and even show a preview (see jpeg 3).  But on clicking ‘Ok’ or ‘Apply’ I get another error message from which it won’t let me proceed (see jpeg 4 (in my second post)).

The error messages relate to the constraints placed on the work planes used to achieve the model features (extrusions, revolutions, chamfers, etc) under the machining features group.

A couple of points; the weld(s) have to proceed the machining features so each manufacturing stage can be clearly illustrated on the drawing of the sub-assembly.  And yes in this case I could remodel the assembly, but it is time consuming and regularly our customers will want the design tweaked, so having to remodel every time would be unacceptable.  Thirdly, I believe the work planes are needed to constrain the sketches (see jpeg 5 (in my second post) - the work plane is constrained to the ‘red highlighted dot’ and tangent to the cylindrical face).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Adding Part To Frame Generator With ILogic Rules For Features

Jul 17, 2013

I have a wire trough that we typically use on all our units. Instead of modelling each trough as it's own separate part to length, I would like to add this part to frame generator for tracking there cut lengths etc...

A few items, there is two sizes that we use, but for now I will work with just one.

I have modeled the part and renamed the important parameters.

-WIDTH - stays the same

-HEIGHT - stays the same

-LENGTH - adjusted by frame generator

-RIBS - the part has 6 currently, but there is a rib added for every 1/2 inch. it is a rectangular pattern

-SLOTS - will be added to the trough every 2 inches of length, it is a rectangular pattern

-SLOT_DISTANCE - is 2 inches and never changes, if the trough is cut on a slot, which ever is easiest, to show half a slot or none, doesn't matter, this is just for a visual and BOM reference

I found a video that shows me how to publish parts to FG, but I am stuck for the iLogic part. Part attached.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Hiding Features In One View

Nov 29, 2012

I am making a multiview drawing with isometric of a certain sheet metal part. Due to manufacturing reasons, they have to make the part longer than necessary to get a bend in it then I will have them shear off the extra. Is there a way I can show the multiview and flat pattern WITH the extra material and show the isometric WITHOUT that extra? In the model I remove the excess with a cut but I don't know how to suppress a feature for one view and not another.

When you have a part with a thread feature, the default setting should show the thread feature in the drawing view...rather than making the user right click the view and select "Display Thread Feature". I don't understand why this doesn't show up in the drawing automatically...it is, after all, a feature on the part.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Adding To Ordinate Dimensions

Mar 20, 2013

I have had to revise a part that someone else created at some earlier date. They used the ordinate dimensions, which works perfectly and looks good.

I have had to add some holes to this part, but can not figure out how to add more dimensions to the existing ones, outside of deleting the dimensions and dimensioning them all over again.

How do I add more ordinate dimensions to the existing?

How do am I able to add Dimensions into .idw files other than the  Retrieve dimensions function?

In other words how can I add dimensions at will?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Adding Part Dimensions To Parameters For Parts List

Apr 29, 2012

I am finally getting time to do some organizational cleanup and management with our templates and vault settings. Many of the things are items that I am altering for each drawing/model I make and I would like to make them "stick" for the company standards. Things like altering font size in the styles library, adding part dimensions to the parameters for the parts list, and creating a new content central library where our part numbers are already populated for the parts list and the structural shapes have datum planes in the middle rather than just at beginning and end.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Can't Get Dimensions To Default Close To The View

Mar 8, 2012

I have dimensioned hundreds of drawings with the Ordinate Dimension command in Inventor 5.1. I'm now using Inventor 2011 and I'm having lots of issues using this command. When I first set up the dimensions, I can't get the dimensions to default close to the view. They almost always want to be on the very edge of the title block. I don't think this is a sttings problem, because occasionally they will lock to where I want them. What am I doing wrong?

The first attachment is how they go on their own. In the second attachment, I have manually moved them, but at 1 dimension per move, it's slow, and also hard to keep the all aligned.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Placed View Of Assembly In IDW Drawing - No Dimensions

Sep 21, 2012

Recently when I have placed a view of an assembly into an idw drawing, then try to dimension distances between parts it gives me strange looking dimensions, or no dimensions at all.  It looks as though the dimensions are going from the edges of each part at different angles, when I want them to be parallel to the view.  I just want the dimension from a line to a line in that view as though it is 2d, but it is acting like it is still in 3d. I do not know if their is a setting that will change this or not.

I attached a screen shot of what the dimensions look like.

Also is there a feature or a format that I can make 2d images specifically for printing? Perhaps there is a file format?

I want them allinged to object sort of like what you get when you view dimensons in perspective (first arrow is bigger than second arrow text is getting smaller as it goes further away etc.).

Currently I import my image and draw each arrow, each line, slant the text and it looks so-so... not the greatest and it is A LOT OF WORK. Then i print the dimensions to and image and combine the rendering and image in GIMP.

What I want to know is, is there a way to set the vertical dimension where you want it programatically?  I would like to put the vertical dimension down and to the right of the arrows if possible.
