AutoCAD Inventor :: Templates To Metric - Changes Back To Inch
May 26, 2012
I have changed my settings in all of my templates to metric. I create a new assembly, add the part (yes, it is set to metric), I now create my first new part in the assembly. When I start to sketch it changes back to inch. How do I set it so it stays metric? This is Autodesk Inventor Professional 2012.

I'm looking for a routine that I can choose to scale by 25.4 (Imperial to Metric) or .039370079 (Metric to Imperial).
We just got a CNC Machine that works with metric and people keep asking me to make changes in bothe formats.
I'm using CAD 2014.

we have just upgraded from Inv 2011 to 2013. I am trying to create the drawing templates in 2013 by using the blank 2013 template and then copying our border from 2011 onto it. This works a treat apart from 1 thing.
The i properties do not get copied over as well so the sheet is blank from drawing number, title and the custom properties etc.

running AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012. From the beginning of my course I’ve had CAD opening to my template; from the options, under the file tab, then template settings, I set all four of the subcategories to my template and the appropriate folders. My template is set with an engineering drawing scale. A couple weeks ago, I fired up CAD and it opened to a different template where it’s using an architectural scale. I checked my template settings in the options and they are the same. I closed CAD, reopened it, and have gotten the same result since then. When I open my drawings that I’ve been working on the scale goes back to engineering or if I manually open my template, it is an engineering scale as well. Is there another area that controls how CAD opens besides the options for templates settings? I really don’t understand how that could have been changed in the first place since we have always used our templates from the first week of class.

Someone would like a small 1 inch by 1 inch logo for invoices at 600 DPI. However I understand that illustrator doesnt work in DPI or PPI since it's vector. Would I have to transfer the small image over to photoshop. I did try and save a 1 inch by 1 inch logo at 600 PPI, however when I saved the image it was no longer 1 inch by 1 inch. It had increased significantly in size regardless of what file format I saved the image as.

If I try to draw a square box in any size, illustator does not make it square.
For example, if I select the Rectangle Tool, click in the art space and set the rectangle to one inch by one inch, I get a box that is 1.0003 by 1.0003
Here is a screen shot of what I am getting.
This is also happening to any rectangle and circle.
Even if I hold down shift to keep the preportions lock, it still happens.
I have check and nothing is snapping or set to snap.
This is a major issue for me as I use illustator for creating dielines and those dielines need to be very accurate.

I would like a few rules to be triggered once the new drawing template is opened.select sheet size, I have been given a rule that already works, basically the rule selects a border and title block based on sheet size selection.
trigger = iTrigger0iLogicForm.Show("BorderChange", FormMode.Modal)iLogicVb.UpdateWhenDone = TrueIf Parameter("BorderSize") = "A0" Then ActiveSheet.ChangeSize("A0", MoveBorderItems := True)ActiveSheet.TitleBlock = "MJTD A0"ActiveSheet.Border = "MJTD A0.
[code]....
I would also like a rule to let me annotate in metric or imperial. this is where I require assistance. I am not sure the best way to achieve this rule. My programming is very basic.I have found some links here, but I can't seem to make them work in the drawing environment. Also these rules seems to change the units of an already created .ipt.
Rule #1 Link
Rule #2 Link
I am just looking for a rule to select either .in or mm from the styles library(i think) , before I even place a base view. Regardless of the original units used to make the model.

To convert from imperial to metric multiply the length, in inches, by 25.4 (the number of millimeters per inch).
Example: 3 inches converted to millimeters is 3*25.4 or 76.2mm.
To convert from metric to imperial multiply the length, in millimeters, by 0.03937 (the number of inches in a millimeter). For greater accuracy use 0.03937008.
Example: 100 millimeters converted to inches is 100*0.03937 or 3.937 inches.

We are about to migrate from IV 2011 to IV 2012 so it is time for the annual template update. We also use and store our templates and style library in Vault.
Currently we have two idw templates, one for b-sized paper and one for d-sized. We are finding that this does not give enough flexibility when detailing components from 60' weldments down to 1/2" dia machined shafts.
Are we better off to create/ manage a new idw template for each of our large and small weldments, assembly prints, flame cut components, and machined parts. Or should we use a single template idw file and add Sheet Formats, Borders, Title Blocks, Sketched Symbols, Dimension Styles as required to better standardize the final idws?

How many people recreate their templates from scratch when you upgrade to then next version of Inventor? When we switched to Inventor we were told that we should recreate our templates from scratch when going to the next release. This wasn't to bad in the beginning but is very time consuming now due to the number and complexity of our templates. I'm curious what other people are doing. I would also like to hear from Autodesk, what do you recommend?

We have a minor issue with STEP translations. We keep our templates on the network, and they have a lot of customized settings. Everything is fine until we try to translate a STEP file, then Inventor wants to use the templates on the "C" drive (the ones that came with the software).
Is there a setting I can use to make Inventor use the templates on the network? I've got my "Files" setting in the "Options" pointing to the templates on the network, but Inventor still uses the ones on the "C" drive.

I am working on a project that involves a screw conveyer(auger) with a 3" od, 1.5"/flight and a 0.800" ctr shaft. I modeled it without any difficulty using the "helix" function in a 3-d sketch & then swept a rectal around that path. The problem is, I need paper templates to layout the pattern on the steel. In the past I have made use of the "flat pattern" feature to print paper templates for tube notching and such, but that function prompts me with an error message "no surface to flatten" Attached is the full screw(augShaft9in.ipt), a single flight and 2/3 of a flight(i dont think a full flight will flatten & not overlap). Need to getting these patterns printed.
