I am using Design Assitant to rename files, but have had no luck with other referenced files.I have followed the Procedures from AutoDesk WikiHelp.
1. Open Top Assembly.
2. In the top browser, I select the part and set Action -> Rename.
3. Rename File.
4. In the bottom browser, I select the file types for additional referenced files.
5. I select (highlight) all the files.
6. Click "SAVE"
When I go to open the files, to check if the changes have been made, obviously to rename works on the Top Assembly,BUT for other additional referenced files, it doesn't.
I am doing this in a Single User Project.Just wondering if there are other steps that need to be done to use Design Assistant properly.

One of our employees installed new demo version of Inventor 2012 on my computer and it made a lot of mess as I am running 2009 as well. The whole system got confused so I decided to delete all 2012 inventor related programs in the control panel however I cannot run the design assistant now. When I click on the design assistant it pops up and disappears.

i wanna use a existent project to make a new one, i copy all the files that I need to a new project, then I use Design Assistant to rename all files, everything works fine this way. I just saw now a little 'problem' that doesn't bother me, but can be a problem to other ppl who open this project and see the difference.
When I rename the file name from Design Assistant (opening it from the top assembly), all the parts get its PART NUMBER updated and all the files are renamed too, but...when i open the assembly, in the Model tree, no parts have the name updated, all keeps the old name, but if i open the part from the model tree, i open the correct part already updated and renamed, so, its just the model tree displays name that are incorrect. Is that known ? Is there a solution ? Or am I doing something wrong to copy or rename files ?
I realized that is happens most when i rename files from a top assembly with subassemblies. Sometimes when i use just one assemblie with just parts inside it, everything goes normal.

I've to give all my file the same name as the part number also the ones that are generated by design accelerator.
For a shaft I would copy a shaft, rename it and insert it back in the assembly, I noticed that often the old name keeps popping up as you can see at the picture attached. Besides partnumbers and filenames there is also such a wierd thing as default name... this sometimes pops up but I don't now how to control that name, or why it is even there in the first place.

We using Vault to control our Inventor Standards and I know in the past Product Design Suites (2012) the design data versions were different in the fact that the Ultimate Version design data had more to it because of the extra features, therefore resulting in having to control two seperate sets of data.
Just upgraded our department to 2014 and it appears that the design data files between the Ultimate and Premium Suites are the same and would have to only control one set of data?

I have a folder that contains subfolders, then more subfolders. All these folders contain Inventor files. There are few different models there with drawings and related files...
I need to make an exact copy of the folder at different location in Vault. To use Copy Design tool, I would need to do it few times, as there are few totally separate files in the folders.
Now, is there a way of taking main folder with its all contants and just copying/renaming it to other location? It would save me lot of time.

I wanted to use the program to design a robot for our school vex competition. Vex has provided cad files for all the parts. So, how i can import the seperate parts into one design. I can only open each part individually but cant find a way to combine them so can assemble the robot in one design.

My office procedures dictate that when we place a content center part that we do so "as custom" for several reasons that are irrelevant to this question (I can expound if needed).
My question is: If I have an assembly with a content center part that is placed "as custom" and I use the component replace tool (CTRL+h) to replace it with another content center part that has already been created and placed "as custom" in another file, how come I get a new CC component that is not the one I selected?
It appears that I am getting a CC part from the same family as the original when what I need is the component to be replaced with the one I am selecting.
In other words: when I say replace "this" with "that", how come I get something else entirely? This functionality works perfectly on non-CC parts.

I have a project that was created entirely with still images (almost 200,000) shot with a Canon 5D. I converted the CR2 (RAW) to jpegs and edited the project in Final Cut Pro using those jpegs. I then used Automatic Duck to send the FCP project to After Effects where I used the Batch n Replace script from [URL] to replace the jpegs with the CR2 files for color correction. The problem I'm running into is the script creates a new project where the CR2 files have replaced the jpegs, however everything is offline. The images for each sequence are sorted into folders so I go to the first image in a folder and tell AE to replace it with the proper file. AE thinks for a bit and finds and replaces all of the other images in that folder. Depending on how many images are in a particular folder, it can take anywhere from 5 minutes to several hours for AE to finish. It took over 4 hours for AE to relink a project with 10 shots/images sequences containing over 12,000 images.
All of the AE project files are shared via Dropbox with the other Mac Pro in my studio. I opened one of the projects on the other computer and tried to relink to the CR2 files on my RAID over the network but I had to do each image one by one. Is there a way to relink the files over the network the same way as if they were on my own computer?

I have an assembly with two similar items in it and have written code to replace the component based on a given selection. If I try to change item one, nothing happens. If I change items two, it changes both item two as well as item one. In the attached screenshot item one should have a full cover panel and item two should be open; however, they are both the same. I have stabilized the browser by changing the names to "Leg One:1" and Leg Two:1) and the components that are being replaced are standard assemblies to be replaces with other standard assemblies.

You're code is definitley a great starting point, and will most likely save me a ton of time!
I am currently diving into a small project which should save a lot of time for designers in the end if it pans out.
Issue being resolved:
We use the Vault and have a ton of machines that get re-used from time to time through the Copy Design method. There's obviously some changes that are made from job to job, but the big issue is changing a machine from an Imperial to Metric one. This is the time (and mind) consuming process I'm looking to shorten.
What I have:
Currently I have a code (few tweaks needed but it works) that is run from an upper assembly. This code then cycles through each and every sub assembly and part that exists within it. As it cycles through, it checks for hole features which are tapped, and if it finds one of these instances, changes the thread from Imperial to Metric according to a Hard Coded set of values.
Current Dilema:
What's the point of changing the holes if the designer has to go through the assembly to change the bolts and fasteners anyways?
I've practiced a bit with your code and been able to replace items, the issue is everything must be hard coded in order to do so. My question is:
Is there a way to get the Family from the Part Occurence / Document / Anything related?
I've looked through the API, but have only found that everything related to the Content Center.... is only accessable through the Content Center, and nothing else.
For Example, yes I am able to tell if a part has come from the content center (ie. PartComponentDefinition.IsContentMember), but that's as far as it goes, just a simple Boolean.
There MUST be a way to find out some sort of Content Center information from the direct Part / other related documents. I've looked at the "Replace Content Center Part Sample" provided in the API, but this example hard codes the ContentTreeViewPath as well.
In the end, I don't quite understand the point of hard coding this path with no way to access it through the Part Document. This only creates the need for constant manual change and / or MANY rules to compensate each and every family.

When I replace elements with iLogic the Inventor Browser is not automatically refreshed.
E.g. I have a file A.ipt and I replace it with B.ipt then in the Brwoser will be shown: A.ipt:1, even when B is already inserted.
Is there some refresh, like "Update Browser nodes when done" ?
These both has no influence on it:
iLogicVb.UpdateWhenDone = True
InventorVb.DocumentUpdate()
By the way. To Update the Browser manually, I have to rename the block nodes (From Filename to Filename). So it's only opening up the Renaming Function and then hitting "ok".
If there's no direct function to update the Browser, maybe there's a way to do the manually way by iLogic?

I have geometry not updating after replacing a component in an assembly.
I have drawn part A and in the assembly environment I have projected cut edges on a XY Plane in a 2D Sketch.
After replacing component A in the assembly with part B (not identical but very close) i was expecting the projected geometry to update. But it doesn't. The "local update" button is greyed out in assembly mode. also the Rebuild command does not seem to update the projected geometry.
I can see the new 3d shape and the old projected geometry. How to get the projected geometry to update?

We are using Tube and Pipe with custom valves, flanges etc published to and taken from Content Center. Quite frequently we have to mock up a vendor supplied valve until we get the final model from them (usually near the end of the project) the mocked up valves can change in design over the course of the project, which means submitting and re-submitting different versions of valve with a slightly different name each time.
To try and keep things tidy (and prevent confusion with other users) I've tried to delete existing families and replace again with the same name, but Inventor T&P/CC won't allow this, and usually get the error message about family name already existing.
How can I truly delete the family and have no trace left on CC/Vault/working folders etc? Is there a workflow I should be aware of for such a task?

Is there a way to use iLogic to replicate the old-school method of replacing drawing references? (ie, where you'd temporarily rename the originally referenced file, open the drawing, and then point it to the new file after Inventor says it can't find the original)
Longer version:
I have an iLogic configurator that manipulates skeletal models, copies them out as new files, and swaps them into template drawings. The original skeletal model can be configured in several different ways (different features, surfaces, etc), so I have several template drawings set up for each model depending on the configuration.
The problem that I'm encountering involves the order in which the drawing is loaded and then has its references replaced. When first opened, the drawing loads the original skeletal model which doesn't have all the geometry of the "new" model for which the particular template drawing was intended. This makes most of my section and detail view constraints go belly-up. After subsequently replacing the model references with the "new" model with the correct geometry, the section and detail view constraints fail to resolve themselves, and my once-perfect detail drawing is ruined.
If I instead force the drawing to open with the new model from the git-go (via the workaround discussed above), everything loads perfectly. However, I haven't yet found a way to handle this automatically with iLogic.
FWIW, I am currently using the following code in a subroutine:
DESTINATIONDOC=ThisApplication.DOCUMENTS.Open(TemplateDrawing, False)
DESTINATIONDOC.SAVEAS(filePath&Left(PN,6)&".idw", False)
DimSTRNEWREFNAMEAsString
DimOREFFILEAsFILEDESCRIPTOR
[Code]....

I'm trying to use iLogic Design Copy to copy an assembly and all its associated parts to another directory. The assembly contains content center parts. Inventor warns me that the destination file of one of the CC parts (and 18 others) will be overwritten. When I go ahead and copy anyway, the copying process stops at that specific CC part. The Design Copy Progress dialog box states there is an error copying that CC part. When I close the Design Copy Progress dialog box, Inventor crashes.
The error copying the CC part: I'm allowed to use content center parts in iLogic Design Copied stuff, right? I searched some related topics and I'm under the impression that Inventor keeps the CC parts in its own directory and shouldn't be trying to overwrite them.

I'm just started using inventor 2013 (from 2010) & the way colours/materials are applied has completely changed so I'm learning again from scratch.
Here's my issue: A customer has sent a casting to me in Parasolid format. When I open it, all the unmachined surface are blue & look a bit garish. However, the colours of the machined faces are ok & I wish to keep them.
So, I want to chage all the surfaces that are blue - I can use the picker & select all the blue faces seperately (by holding CTRL down & select each face one be one) but this is a pain & takes ages (there are over 200 faces)
I can see & edit the blue color in the manager but how do I tell Inventor to replace all - can it be done?

We are having an issue when we replace a component in Inventor Pro 2012. When we replace a component, the name in the browser does not update to the new component. We've even tried to close and re-open the Inventor assembly and that does not work. We end up manual double clicking the name in the browser and type in the new component name.

I am working in IV R2010, and I need to create a new material. I went to the "Help" file, and the first thing it says in "On the ribbon, select the 'Design' tab..." Unfortunately, I don't have a "Design" tab. What am I doing wrong, and more imprtantly, how do I make a new material? Because of the nature of our work here, I only use most of Inventor's features rarely, like about once every couple years, and my one remaining memory cell is usually busy remembering something else...

I'm having a problem with getting design views to show up properly in idw's. I have turned off visibility in the model of the parts and patterns that I don't want to show. When I insert a view into an idw using the design view, the patterns are still visible. Take a look at the screen shots. I have patterned hardware and idlers and they are not visible in the model, but they are in the drawing view.

I'm having an issue with the save feature in Illustrator CS5.5 (15.1.0 for mac). Typically when making changes to design files, we will save the Illustrator file first, then save as a PDF proof to send to the client. Our issue is that the file appears to save correctly, but when opening the Illustrator document a few days later, we find that only SOME of the changes were saved. Now keep in mind that I've only saved the document once, why would only a few changes save from one single save point?
On top of this, our PDFs come out without any problems, and all changes save just fine.
This is a major issue for us, as we need to be able to trust that ALL previous changes save, as we use the Illustrator document to create subsequent versions. We don't have the time to check through every minute detail to make sure that the file saved properly. This should be a very basic function of the program, yet it is creating big time headaches for us.
Could it be that we are saving as PDF first, then as AI? Would that somehow affect the ability of Illustrator to save properly?

I am making a copy design of a big file, two things I need to change manually which takes lots of time:
I need to change the status of files from Reuse to Copy, also I need to change the paths to the right ones as the paths that kick in by default when I change the main directory on the top are not right.
Is there a quick way of changing status of all the files to Copy, kinda shift and highlight or the way Vault renames files with Replace option? With big assemblies connected with 10 drawing files doing it all by hand.
