View 9 RepliesI am working on some VB code to reterive the dimensions fron an IDW and put them on an excel spreadsheet for an Inspection report. I found some code to which gets the linear dimensions and have added tolerance type and tolerance bands.
I have been unable to get the hole notes off the IDW. Got the general notes to work with the following
Dim invDrawNotes As Inventor.DrawingNotes
Dim invActDrawNotes As Inventor.DrawingNote
Set invDrawNotes = invActSHT.DrawingNotes

How can I use engineers notes in a dwg drawing?
I want to add notes to parts and then use the notes in the 2d drawing layouts.
I have placed a srting of text on an Inventor 2012 drawing howver I can't edit it once placed - double clicking / right clicking does not give me any options.

Is there a way to make Inventor automatically add a note, along the bend line, indicating bend direction, number of degrees and bend radius?
Also, in 2013, where are the bend tables located? I've checked the help file, and it's telling me cprogram filesautodeskinventor 2013design data
I followed that path, but I do not have the "design data" folder it's calling for.
When using alternate dimensions in hole notes it repeats the full note for both dimension units. I would like to only have the dimensional data have the alternate information and not repeat the full note (see attached file).

When a co-worker opens an assembly or part drawing I want them to see a note regarding the model, a note that would be used for internal purpose only.
The note has to be visible on the screen when the drawing is opened, anyway of doing something like that?
Is there a way to associate a text string to a drawing view so when the view is moved
around the text goes with it and remains placed in accordance with the view?
I am using 2012 SP2 and when I try to place hole notes with both metric and inches it only gives me inches (in both displays)

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create and display multiple Notes on an Inventor Part. I select the face, right click, select create note, and the note gets created perfectly. However the next note I create does not get displayed in the graphics window. It gets added to note in the browser. Is it possible to get all notes created displayed on the model?
I also see that the note automatically adds the Author and the date to the note. Is it possible to edit this information. It says the information is read only.
Every time I create a chamfer note, I have to edit it, because I don't like '1.5 X 45° ', I like the lower case of '1.5 x 45° '. Only a small detail, maybe, but that's how I prefer it. Can I edit the template somewhere so that this happens automatically?
Similarly, can I edit the hole note so that the tolerance (6H, etc) is not shown for tapped holes?
Is it possible to add notes for each hole in a hole table?
I want to add for each hole in a hole table its true position value that I decided (instead of creating feature control frame for each hole).
I wanted to use the program to design a robot for our school vex competition. Vex has provided cad files for all the parts. So, how i can import the seperate parts into one design. I can only open each part individually but cant find a way to combine them so can assemble the robot in one design.

I searched on web for option and it is available underAplication Option>Note Tab, but I could not able to locate option in Inventor.

The Hole and thread notes command does nothing in a drawing.
I point to a thread hole, the mouse cursor changes to the right simbol but no note is generated.
This following happened frequently.
1. We spend a lot of time creating a drawing with dimensions and leader text.
2. The part or assembly changes (feature or components are deleted or replaced)
3. Dimensions that reference deleted geometry disappear.
From what I can tell, the dimension will turn pink/purple and not disappear ONLY if one of it's attachment points is still valid. However, if all the attachment points for the dimension or leader text are gone, then the dimension or leader text simply disappears.
We spent a lot of time creatin these dimensions and/or leader text and would like to know if there is a problem. We have had many instances where we though the drawing was done only to find vital info missing. To make sure this doesn't bite us again we currently have to carefully compare archived revisions of the drawing with the current drawing to make sure everything is there.
Why do I have to select edit hole note each time I use the hole feature tool? It will not keep my settings to show qty.
It seems that I should be able to save it to my library and make it the default. I have saved library, templates all with zero luck.
See 2 screen shots in the attachment.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use iLogic Design Copy to copy an assembly and all its associated parts to another directory. The assembly contains content center parts. Inventor warns me that the destination file of one of the CC parts (and 18 others) will be overwritten. When I go ahead and copy anyway, the copying process stops at that specific CC part. The Design Copy Progress dialog box states there is an error copying that CC part. When I close the Design Copy Progress dialog box, Inventor crashes.
The error copying the CC part: I'm allowed to use content center parts in iLogic Design Copied stuff, right? I searched some related topics and I'm under the impression that Inventor keeps the CC parts in its own directory and shouldn't be trying to overwrite them.
I am working in IV R2010, and I need to create a new material. I went to the "Help" file, and the first thing it says in "On the ribbon, select the 'Design' tab..." Unfortunately, I don't have a "Design" tab. What am I doing wrong, and more imprtantly, how do I make a new material? Because of the nature of our work here, I only use most of Inventor's features rarely, like about once every couple years, and my one remaining memory cell is usually busy remembering something else...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with getting design views to show up properly in idw's. I have turned off visibility in the model of the parts and patterns that I don't want to show. When I insert a view into an idw using the design view, the patterns are still visible. Take a look at the screen shots. I have patterned hardware and idlers and they are not visible in the model, but they are in the drawing view.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am making a copy design of a big file, two things I need to change manually which takes lots of time:
I need to change the status of files from Reuse to Copy, also I need to change the paths to the right ones as the paths that kick in by default when I change the main directory on the top are not right.
Is there a quick way of changing status of all the files to Copy, kinda shift and highlight or the way Vault renames files with Replace option? With big assemblies connected with 10 drawing files doing it all by hand.
Can you edit a drawing view of an assembly and change the Design View via the API?

I'm looking for some direction to follow to modify an existing design. I am trying to thicken left and right walls in order to make the inner section narrower. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have made a design on autodesk inventor along with gear and motors which give input to the mechanism. (Stewart Platform)
I am able to test the design by giving a random rotary input to a motor component which features availabe on Inventor.
However, I want to control that input somehow. I just want to enter the final coordinates the design needs to reach and the motors should be actuated automatically so as to reach those coordinates.
I have a MATLAB code for the purpose but am unable to understand how to connect it to Autodesk Inventor.
I have came across a couple that require you to use the design tab but I do not have a design tab. I then try and use the add ins button to intall it but when i click on it, nothing happens.
