AutoCAD Inventor :: Pipes Looks Exactly The Same But Different Weight?
Oct 12, 2012Take a look at these two pipes and let me know why they each have a different mass when they can be overlayed and appear the same?

View 3 RepliesThe weight of the parts is correct but if the quantity is greater than 1 in a weldment the BOM collumm does not do the math and multiply the quantity X the weight. If it is a formula what is the syntax?

attachemnt one is the drawing atachment two is the problem that im asking
attackment three is the solution i just don't know how to make it in the actual drawing
I have a drawing where it is difficult to get length, weight, or cut out of an ipt.
Or how do you get it straight up for a presentation drawing?
(you can see the image in test1.bmp (our see the part in test1.ipt
While using Tube and Pipe Inventor names the pipes like this pipipe.1320836514248.ipt .
I would like to set it to numbers only .
I am drawing hydraulic steel pipes using the 3d sketch command. I enter in the points representing the change of direction of the center line of the pipe as if it had no bend radii.
The points are entered in using absolute X,Y,Z coordinates, choosing one end of the pipe as 0,0,0.
I then join the points using the line command. I then put the bend radii on using the bend command.
I then draw a 2d sketch of the 2 circles representing the id , od of the pipe on a normal plane at the start point 0,0,0
I then sweep the 2D sketch along the path of the 3D sketch. I then place axes at the center of each straight portion of pipe . I then place points the intersection points of consecutive axes to replicate the original setting out points (3D x,y,z coordinates) that I used in the 3D sketch.
Then I create my idw with 3 orthographic views (showing the relevant axes as a symbols in each view, an isometric view and a coordinate table showing the x,y,z coordinates of each labelled change of direction. I then pull the pipe into an assembly and put the fittings on each end.
This is another IDW showing the fittings and a parts list. I have inventor suite 2012, along with tube and pipe. However I have never tried it.I don't know how it works, maybe it would be better to use that?
Another question on the measuring of pipes. If a sample is made and then backdraughting needs to be done how do you measure it.
Method used before I arrived was measuring lengths and angles. Highly inaccurate. Never worked. Pipes never drawn. Ended up being photographed only, which was not good enough to make spare parts for service technicians in the field, they had to go out to measure on site and make up on site.
I introduced measuring the change of direction vertices of the centreline of the pipe as if there was not bend radius.
More accurate, but highly difficult to measure. Use steel rules and squares. Never right the first time. Always have to check putting the pipe on top of a full scale drawing.
Tried to improve method of measurement by printing out a A0 piece of graph paper and using that as the background to lay the pipe on. Better/easier and more accurate again, but still not spot on, have to check and adjust using the pipe on top of a full scale plot.
Short of buying some type of expensive 3D measuring machine, which in our case would not warrant the cost as we do not do this type of drawing 100 per cent of our time, not even 30 per cent, what is the best method of measuring pipes accurately.
I need to trim pipes of different diameters and diagonally at corners of a frame. Is this doable? Trim only seems to work with flat faces.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am starting to model pipes for placement within assemblies.I could model the pipe and flanges in 1 part file but i thought this would take too long to create each flange individually so i modeled the pipe and flanges as separate part files and constrained them in a assembly file. How would you tackle this pipe work?
Future pipes will have different size/type flanges on a pipe depending on how it connects.
Is it possible to make the pipe in a single part file with the flange on 1 of the ends and with a command operation then move the flange to the others pipe ends?
why this difference in weight is appearing? Obviously i probably did something wrong. But what?

I have an assembly that i need to know the mass of, easy enough, however the assembly needs to be weighed without some of the parts in it. I hought i could simply uncheck "enabled" of the unwanted parts and re check the mass, however it does not change. Any solution besides adding the wanted parts individually?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWe have the weight inour title block tied to the mass property. It is set to populate automatically and it does very nicely.
The issue comes when I have an assembly and in the BOM I set certain components to be reference. When I go to Iproperties and then under the Physical tab select update,
the value updates there, but not in the associated drawing title block.
I am trying to include the weight for all components in assembly BOM as well as calculated overall weight in TB, but there are no available property to choose from in the drop-down list.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOur Autocad parts lists used to calculate the weight of parts times the quantities. Now we are using Inventor and I see that the weight shown on a parts list is the weight of an individual part - although the quantity could be 2 , 3 (more than one). Is there a way to have the total weight shown equal to MASS times ITEM QTY?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have an already edited part list (because there are parts that come from different assemblies and other ones that don't have to appear in that part list) and i like to show the total weight of my drawing, that doesn't correspond with any assembly.
So, there is any possibility of summing up the values of a part list column.

Guide me through weight takeoffs and RISA 3D type actions in Inventor? My company is currently using AutoCAD to make drawings, Inventor to make models, an in-house analysis program (for weights, moments, loads, modulus of elasticity, and yield strength) as well as RISA 3D for final design. I need to streamline this process, and I know Inventor can do it all.

I want to changed the default visible line weight for all drawings. I just can't get it to work. I have changed my project file settings to "Read-Write", I have tried this in both the Default Standard and my own standard. I changed the "Visible (ANSI)" Line Weight, saved it, then hit "Save" on the Styles and Standards bar. It works for a document. But when I open a new document, the line weight has reverted back to the old value.

When I make changes to the "Visible" layer:
- the line colour changes come through both to screen and printer
- the line type only comes through to the screen, but not to the printer
- the line weight is ignored both by screen and printer
